The Omega was utterly confused, watching as Shen Yu redirected his sharp gaze toward the equally bewildered Beta doctor.
“If Laili doesn’t react to this Omega’s pheromones, shouldn’t you replace them with another Omega for the treatment?”
“Bring in the same Omega as before.”
Shen Yu’s expression remained cold, his presence overwhelming. “If there isn’t a reasonable explanation, I will have to suspect your motives. I hope you won’t take offense.”
His harsh words softened slightly, giving the Beta doctor time to react.
“You should know that Ji Laili’s condition is highly important. Instructor Aiger and Principal Lais are paying close attention to it—perhaps even the Commander is aware. If this isn’t handled properly, you might end up implicated as well.”
“I simply hope that the doctor can be a little more thorough.”
He just wanted Laili to be cured properly.
The Beta doctor caught the underlying meaning in his words and let out a chuckle—not out of anger, but sheer amusement.
He repeated, “Shen Yu, you’re acting very strange.”
“Putting aside my methods, isn’t that kid inside an Alpha? Word has it that you hate Alphas—so why do you care so much about him?”
Shen Yu lifted his gaze. “I do hate Alphas.”
“But what does that have to do with me liking Ji Laili?”
“Y-you—you what?!” The Beta doctor’s eyes widened, his worldview shaken to the core.
“Strange?” Shen Yu said calmly. “We’re together.”
How is that NOT strange?! The Beta doctor finally realized why the atmosphere in the treatment room earlier had been so odd.
“…Have I just been offline for too long?” he muttered to himself, dazed. Even Shen Yu, who despises Alphas, is now dating one.
“That means… you’re the one he’s been hiding away in his heart’s left chamber, aren’t you?!” The Omega beside them sounded way too excited.
Hearing this, Shen Yu cast him another glance.
Before he could say anything, the Omega had already started chattering excitedly about that day.
“He really didn’t react at all! Honestly, I came here today out of curiosity—he’s practically a legendary Alpha where I’m from!”
The Omega sighed in amazement. “I never thought he’d actually have someone he likes…”
Before he could finish, his eyes widened in shock.
Because he saw this cold and intimidating Alpha suddenly smile.
It was faint—barely there—but it melted away his usual chill, revealing a beauty that was almost unreal.
He’s really good-looking, the Omega thought.
But the smile was fleeting, vanishing in an instant.
Shen Yu glanced toward the small room ahead, fixing his gaze on the Alpha with chestnut curls shown on the monitor. He didn’t spare the Omega another look.
The Omega sighed in regret. Why are all the good Alphas taken nowadays…
—
Meanwhile, inside the treatment room, Ji Laili had gone through every test and was now at the final stage—sitting by a small window while being exposed to various pheromones.
For a rhinitis patient, this was hell. The poor pup looked utterly miserable.
For some reason, all the Omegas that came in today were acting weird. They stared at him with burning intensity before unleashing their pheromones at full force.
And when he didn’t react? They just tried harder.
Ji Laili ended up pressing his nasal spray so fast he could barely keep up.
And if they weren’t blasting him with pheromones, they were looking at him with pity, muttering things like, “Internal circulation is shameful!” before releasing even more pheromones in frustration.
After several rounds of this, the only thing suffering was Ji Laili’s nose.
Defeated, he weakly lifted his spray and gave himself a few more doses. At that moment, he found himself really missing Shen Yu.
If he had to suffer anyway, he’d rather smell his little butterfly. At least he didn’t dislike Shen Yu’s scent. But now, with all these fruity, woody, and dessert-like pheromones mixed together…
Even if he didn’t hate them, the sheer overload made his instincts recoil.
—
“Something’s wrong with his condition.”
Outside the monitoring room, the Beta doctor observed Ji Laili’s expression, his face growing serious as he recorded the data.
“The rejection response is way too severe.”
Shen Yu frowned slightly. “Should we stop?”
The Beta doctor watched for a moment longer before sighing in frustration. “It’s probably his nose again… Damn it, is this reaction even normal?”
Left with no choice, the doctor activated the intercom, halting the release of pheromones and instructing the Omegas to leave the room.
A serious voice rang out over the speakers.
“Listen, your body’s rejection response is getting too severe. If this keeps up, it’ll only get worse.”
“Ji Laili, think about it—what’s a scent that you like? If you can’t think of one, then at least recall a scent you don’t dislike.”
Like? Don’t dislike…
For someone with rhinitis, that was a tall order.
He usually didn’t want to smell anything, especially when his nose was already stuffed up.
But still, he tried his best to comply. A scent he liked… one he didn’t dislike…
His brain, following the given command, instinctively conjured up that scent.
A trace of sweet iris lingered within the cold scent—
At first, it was indifferent, like a piece of ice held in the mouth,
Only when it began to melt did a hint of sweetness emerge.
Then, that sweetness exploded on the tongue, wrapped in helplessness, panic, and an uncontrollable fondness.
It was Shen Yu’s pheromones—his feelings for him.
Ji Laili felt like his whole body was burning.
He could smell it again.
That day, he had sprayed himself countless times with nasal spray,
Even when it was hard to breathe,
He had desperately tried to memorize that scent.
“Hah… I—I can smell it…”
“Good. Hold on to that scent. It’s about to fade. If you want to keep it, you must release your own pheromones.”
“Claim it. Let it be stained with your scent.”
Sweat beaded on Ji Laili’s forehead as he listened, dazed and helpless, to the voice guiding him.
“Relax. Focus on the scent you remember.”
“How does it make you feel? Don’t you want to claim it as your own?”
Sweat dripped from his damp curls, landing on his heavy eyelids.
It was only then that he realized—at some point, his entire body was drenched.
His black-and-gold uniform had darkened with moisture, completely soaked through.
A sharp pain throbbed at the back of his neck,
That unbearable pressure—swollen and on the verge of bursting—
And in his hazy thoughts, Ji Laili absurdly realized—
They weren’t lying. It really is going to explode.
“Damn it!”
Seeing Ji Laili’s worsening state, the Beta doctor slammed his fist against the console.
“If only we could bring the owner of that scent here right now!”
They were so close—yet now, the reaction had backfired,
Intensifying the pheromones already surging through Ji Laili’s system.
Panicked, the doctor turned. “The only thing we can do now is contact Aiger and ask—Shen Yu?!”
The spot beside him was empty.
Shen Yu was already striding toward the small chamber,
His hand gripping the doorknob.
The Beta doctor paled. “You can’t go in now! An Alpha’s pheromones will only make the rejection worse—”
Ji Laili was already experiencing severe rejection.
If another Alpha entered, his body would—
The doctor’s face was grim.
But Shen Yu, still facing away from him,
Spoke in a voice so taut it was like a string ready to snap—
And yet, unwavering.
“He won’t.”
“He will only remember my scent.”
“No one else—only me.”
“So…”
“I’ll make him understand—
That if he wants it,
He can claim this scent as easily as breathing.”
—Claim me.
Shen Yu pushed the door open.
