Thankfully, after the mark was completed, Ji Laili—who had miraculously regained full strength—started imagining all kinds of worst-case scenarios, like accidentally biting the carotid artery and needing emergency medical attention.
He forcibly suppressed these dangerous thoughts and carried the drunk Shen Yu out, finally giving the despairing Omega a sliver of hope to free his trembling hands.
Otherwise, there might have been a dead Omega outside, hands still shaking in rigor mortis.
Now, instead of a corpse, there were two people with expressionless faces, yet both radiating deep resentment.
Ji Laili blinked and sensibly admitted fault, “Sorry, that was my bad. Are you guys okay?”
The Omega’s hands still trembled as he replied expressionlessly, “Not one bit. When I get back, I’m filing a complaint against all the Alphas in your Federal Military Academy—especially you!”
Ji Laili gasped, “Eh? Can you not file a complaint? Our A-rank division is already suffering enough. If they find out that they got reported by a cute and kind little O, they’ll be so devastated they won’t be able to sleep.”
He looked utterly sincere. “It was all my fault. I’ll take full responsibility. How about just complaining about me alone?”
Ji Laili smiled, his sweat-damp curls sticking to his forehead, making him look inexplicably charming and heart-fluttering.
“Please?”
The young man leaning against the Alpha’s shoulder had a faint flush on his otherwise pale face. His dark eyes were hazy with confusion, as if he didn’t understand what was being discussed—but he still instinctively followed Ji Laili’s lead, looking like he was pleading too.
Even if it was just an illusion… they looked so good together, so well-matched!
How could anyone be heartless enough to go through with the complaint now?!
The Omega instantly defected. “Fine, I won’t report you guys.”
The Beta doctor, who had just been preparing to say something nice, silently shut his open mouth and shot the two a displeased glance.
Ji Laili caught it immediately and grinned. “Thank you! And thank you, doctor. I can actually release my pheromones now—truly, you’re a medical genius!”
“If anyone dares to badmouth you in the future, I’ll be the first to object!”
The Beta doctor snorted, “I bet the first person to talk bad about me is you, kid.”
Ji Laili protested, “How could I? Do I seem like that kind of person?”
The doctor remained unconvinced. This kid was definitely black-hearted on the inside and completely unaware of it himself.
Internally grumbling about Ji Laili’s cunning, the Beta doctor glanced at the still-drunk Shen Yu slumped against his shoulder.
“Make sure to check the back of his neck when you get back. If it swells up, apply some medicine. You Alphas need to start taking this more seriously.”
Ji Laili nodded obediently. “I’ll be sure to take care of it!”
Judging by his looks, no one would have guessed he was a werewolf capable of biting an Alpha’s nape… The Beta doctor’s expression turned complicated.
“One more thing. Your long-delayed susceptibility period has finally hit.”
“Be careful these days.”
Ji Laili instinctively asked, “Be careful of what, exactly?”
…What else could it be? Did he really want the doctor to spell it out? Was he trying to get him locked in a disciplinary room? And with how scheming you Alphas are, do you really not know what I mean?
—
Back at his dorm, after submitting a leave request for his susceptibility period, Ji Laili couldn’t help but cover his face.
The Beta doctor’s exasperated expression—one that screamed, “I refuse to be part of your weird roleplay!”—was still vivid in his mind. Just thinking about it made him cringe.
Come on, he genuinely hadn’t realized at the time!
It was his first time experiencing this, okay? He wasn’t trying to get up to any weird stuff!
Unconvinced, Ji Laili bit Shen Yu’s cheek in protest.
A small bite mark appeared on the overly pale skin. Ji Laili stared at it, then guiltily averted his gaze.
“This is all the susceptibility period’s fault…”
“This is my first time going through this, so I couldn’t control myself.”
Looking at Shen Yu, who was still in a drunken haze, his dark eyes glassy with confusion, Ji Laili blinked and asked, “Senior, you understand, right?”
Shen Yu just stared at him blankly.
Ji Laili nodded to himself. “Thanks for forgiving me, Senior.”
Then, happily looking for his next victim, he turned to his system. “Tong, you agree this is understandable, right?”
System: […]
Maybe it’d be better to wait until the protagonist wakes up and ask again.
Still, as the only entity here capable of communication, the system could only sigh and respond. At least its host wasn’t in agony anymore—he seemed happy again. That was… good, at least.
Shen Yu’s intoxication was a result of excessive exposure to pheromones. And considering that Ji Laili’s pheromones smelled like alcohol, it wasn’t too surprising.
But—alcohol was one thing… why was it so sweet?
The little curly-haired troublemaker secretly grumbled before cheerfully accepting it.
Who said alcohol couldn’t be sweet?
Comforting himself, Ji Laili then received a communication from Aiger.
On the other side of the blue screen, Aiger’s face appeared. Ji Laili was about to greet him, but then he noticed something—Aiger’s expression was cold and serious, completely different from his usual irritable demeanor.
The words at Ji Laili’s lips stalled.
Almost instantly, he realized that this communication was of great importance.
Sure enough, Aiger’s voice was low and direct, skipping all pleasantries. “The Federal Military Academy has apprehended thirty-eight infiltrators from the Empire.”
Ji Laili was taken aback by the number. “That many?”
He immediately realized the gravity of the situation—how could the Federal Military Academy, which was responsible for training talent for the Federation, have so many Imperial spies lurking within?
Instructor Aiger and the others had been completely unaware. This could only mean that someone had infiltrated the higher ranks and had been covering for those below them.
“These thirty-eight… might not be the final number,” Ji Laili speculated.
“Exactly.” Aiger narrowed his eyes, the scar running across his brow briefly catching the light, exuding danger.
“It looks like you’ve realized it too. The situation has already been secretly reported to the leader. He needs to be wary of those around him.”
“The Federation is about to go through some turmoil. Those bastards better pray I don’t catch them.”
Aiger sneered coldly. “Otherwise, I’ll make them understand—death will be their only release.”
Instructor, you seriously sound like a supervillain right now. Ji Laili silently roasted him in his mind.
Then, he recalled that Aiger had said the situation had been reported in secret. Naturally, if there were spies, they had to be cautious with their planning to avoid alerting the enemy. The fewer people who knew, the better.
So why was Aiger telling him? Ji Laili scratched his curls. “Wait… does this mean I have a role to play?”
“…”
The Alpha on the blue screen darkened, his brows twitching with irritation. “Be serious, damn it!”
Ji Laili immediately straightened up. “Understood, Instructor!”
With a solemn expression, he squared his jaw and put on an air of selfless dedication to the Federation. He certainly looked serious now—but Aiger suddenly wondered if calling this kid was really the right decision.
Originally, Aiger had planned to contact Shen Yu first. After all, Shen Yu would be involved in this matter too, and having him on board would put Aiger and the others at ease.
But just when they needed him, Shen Yu had gone completely off the grid, failing to respond to any communications.
After working non-stop for several days, Aiger gave up on trying to reach Shen Yu. Skipping over the unusually busy forums, he decided to contact Ji Laili instead.
Now, looking at the kid on the other end of the screen, Aiger frowned and crossed his arms. With a mocking tone, he said, “You really need to learn from your senior what it means to be steady.”
Ji Laili let out an awkward noise. Hesitantly, he asked, “This senior wouldn’t happen to be… Shen Yu, right?”
Aiger: “Show some respect, kid. That’s your senior. And let me give you a piece of advice—be careful around Shen Yu. That guy holds grudges.”
Watching Ji Laili’s reaction, Aiger smirked. “Living with him for this long, I bet you’ve taken quite a few beatings, huh?” He raised a brow. “Where does it hurt the most?”
After a brief silence, Ji Laili sincerely answered, “My mouth.”
Aiger looked surprised. “He started slapping Alphas now?”
No.
He just likes to bite little puppies.
