Chapter 115: Please, You Mustn’t Let Me Go!
With the system’s assistance, the rest of the interrogation passed without any danger. They had successfully cleared the first hurdle.
Garna, disappointed that he hadn’t uncovered any spies, quickly lost interest and left the follow-up work to Lowry.
As Lowry prepared to randomly assign rooms, a curly-haired head suddenly popped up beside him.
With a bright, enthusiastic smile, Ji Laili asked, “Bro, can we choose our own rooms?”
Lowry mercilessly rejected him. “No.”
He hadn’t forgotten how much suffering he’d endured because of this curly-haired troublemaker. And now, this guy wanted to choose his own room?
Ha! Lowry giving him that chance would be the real surprise.
“Really can’t, bro?” Ji Laili’s face fell, looking pitifully disappointed. “So, you don’t even have the authority to assign rooms yourself?”
“Oh well, I won’t make things hard for you.”
Who are you looking down on?! Lowry glared fiercely at the Federation Alpha. “Of course, I do!”
“Huh?” Ji Laili looked at him in surprise, as if he hadn’t noticed Lowry’s hostility at all. His clear, bright eyes curved into a smile. “Oh, so you do have that authority! Bro, you’re pretty impressive.”
“No wonder Lord Garna relies on you for so many tasks—you’re really capable.”
He sighed in admiration. “I just got here, and I have no idea what’s coming next. If I could rise to your level, that’d be great.”
This… what’s so great about this?
Lowry’s face turned red. He had never expected someone to call his mundane duties impressive.
Faced with those clear, shining crescent-moon eyes, Lowry stammered, “Dream on!”
This guy had even beaten him up and made him look like a fool in front of Lord Garna.
No way he was getting off so easily!
“And another thing,” Lowry coughed and scoffed, “You ignorant Federation Alpha, what’s so great about this? Just empty words.”
Ji Laili pouted. “It’s not great? You have Lord Garna’s trust, you manage the entire base’s logistics, and you know this place inside out. How is that not impressive?”
If he could reach Lowry’s position, his mission would be much easier.
Decision made!
He would replace Lowry, climb the ranks, and finish his mission as soon as possible!
Unaware of Ji Laili’s scheming, Lowry got lost in the praise. By the time he snapped out of it, he had already bent the rules for him.
Ji Laili quickly chose to share a room with Shen Yu.
And before Lowry could react, he pulled some strings to put Lei Po and Zhai Yifei in the same room, with Eugene right next door.
They were all in the same block—perfect for coordination.
After completing his secret maneuvering, Ji Laili looked completely guilt-free. “Thanks, bro.” He even provided an excuse, “There’s someone here who discriminates against me.”
Ji Laili sighed dramatically. “If I get assigned to his room, we’ll probably end up fighting. That’d be a hassle for everyone.”
Lowry nodded in deep agreement. He would be the one cleaning up that mess in the end.
This base would fall apart without him.
Feeling a little sorry for the curly-haired Alpha, Lowry reluctantly consoled him, “Don’t worry, I don’t discriminate against you.”
He was instantly met with an enthusiastic response. “That’s great!”
“I thought you’d still be mad about how rough I was with you earlier. Lowry bro, you’re such a good person. Can I stay by your side and learn from you?”
“Just let me handle your errands. Consider it my way of paying you back.”
Hearing Ji Laili’s seemingly reluctant offer, Lowry felt oddly satisfied. Meanwhile, Ji Laili was quite pleased with himself.
Now that the logistics were settled, it was time to slack off and go see his little butterfly.
A few minutes after leaving the interrogation room, Ji Laili spotted Shen Yu’s figure. The young man walked leisurely ahead, and Ji Laili followed behind.
The two walked one after the other, keeping a five- to six-meter distance.
The white-coated Alphas passing by didn’t notice anything unusual.
Who would have thought that the moment they stepped inside, the two of them would be all over each other?
Ji Laili barely kept his senses together and asked the system to check if there were any surveillance devices in the room—only to have his lips nibbled.
“What are you thinking about?”
Wow, what a fierce tone. Cold and brooding, as if he wanted to lock him up.
Ji Laili’s eyes curved into a grin. “Just checking for surveillance.”
【There are no monitoring devices here… but you two better be careful.】
The system hesitated before vanishing at light speed.
Shen Yu also realized that he’d been too hasty. If there were surveillance devices here, all their previous efforts would’ve been for nothing.
Regaining some clarity, he released Ji Laili and moved to check the room—only to have his hand caught mid-step.
“It’s fine, senior. There’s nothing here.”
Shen Yu paused, then stopped searching.
Ji Laili smiled. “Senior, you trust me so much.”
“Why wouldn’t I trust you?” Shen Yu asked, genuinely puzzled.
His tone was so natural, as if this was the most obvious thing in the world.
Too cute.
Ji Laili’s grin widened, his brows curving into little crescent moons. Seeing that expression, Shen Yu’s ears warmed slightly, his dark eyes fixed unwaveringly on him.
No matter how many times he saw it, Shen Yu still loved the way Laili smiled at him.
Shen Yu lowered his gaze slightly. “Laili, do you regret it? That I’m not an Omega, not even someone with feminine traits?”
Ji Laili thought back to what he had said earlier and responded with a mix of helplessness and sincerity, “I don’t regret it at all!”
“I said that on purpose. I noticed something wrong with the connectors on those helmets and wanted to warn you all.”
Since he couldn’t say it outright, he had to spout a bunch of nonsense to get the message across.
Shen Yu’s voice was low and slightly muffled. “I couldn’t think straight.”
He continued, “When I heard you say you liked Omegas, my mind went blank. All I could think about was that you didn’t like me. And then you said you hated Alphas, that you didn’t like masculine traits…”
Shen Yu couldn’t describe what he felt in that moment. His ears buzzed first, then panic set in—he wanted to grab hold of him.
He knew Ji Laili liked him, but he still couldn’t help thinking that Laili deserved better. Shen Yu didn’t see himself as a good person.
He was unpopular, too cold by nature, deeply jealous. Whenever someone got close to Laili, he would feel possessive, even if it was just a friend.
He wanted to be the only one by Laili’s side—but he couldn’t act on that desire. It wasn’t that Ji Laili didn’t give him enough security; it was that Shen Yu knew himself too well—he was just that kind of dark-hearted person.
“I’m not a very good person. Sometimes, I’m afraid I might hurt you.”
Shen Yu lifted his gaze, his dark eyes slightly misted over, the corners tinged with an intense red.
This face, too unfamiliar, concealed most of his true emotions, becoming a wall he hid behind—allowing him to say what was truly on his mind.
“The terrible thing is, Laili, I won’t give you an escape route anymore.”
“You’re the one who gave me the chance to take an inch and push for a mile.”
By now, he could no longer accept a little dog that wanted to run away.
Ji Laili looked at him with an expression Shen Yu couldn’t decipher.
Then he asked, “So… even if I truly preferred Omegas, you still wouldn’t let me go, would you?”
Shen Yu’s breath caught, his chest tightening. He pressed his lips together. “No, I wouldn’t.”
“What if I really don’t like masculine traits?”
“I still wouldn’t.”
Gone was his usual obedient demeanor—Shen Yu’s firm, unyielding stance revealed his possessiveness.
Ji Laili suddenly burst into laughter, his brows arching, his bright eyes sparkling as he looked at him.
“Then please, you mustn’t let me go!”
