Chapter 25: Truly Terrifying
Oh? They were still standing there, necks stiff, full of defiance.
Instructor Aiger loved seeing them like this.
With great amusement, he said, “I’ll give you all a chance. Before training starts, why don’t you go and ask the real number one?”
“Maybe ask him if he’s willing to slap your bosses’ faces or twist their necks off.”
Aiger, ever the instigator, was fanning the flames.
The freshmen were stunned.
The real number one?
So it wasn’t between Zhai Yi-Fei and Lei Po?
As if reading their thoughts, Aiger crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, stating bluntly, “Of course, it’s not these two clueless brats.”
“The real number one is…”
Aiger’s gaze swept over the sea of freshmen, searching for that cunning, deep-minded curly-haired Alpha.
Meeting the instructor’s scanning eyes, Ji Lai-Li’s eyelid twitched. Then, he saw Aiger grinning, flashing a row of white teeth.
“That Alpha carrying a bag—he’s your number one.”
The Alphas jolted in excitement, their gazes darting around.
In a split second, Ji Lai-Li shoved the bag into the hands of a nearby comrade and sincerely congratulated him, “Oh, so you’re the number one? Congrats, congrats.”
The Alpha, now holding the bag: “?? I’m the number one??”
Who could resist the temptation of being number one?
The Alpha gleefully raised the plastic bag. “I’m number one! You all see this, right?”
“Wait a second…” The Alpha, momentarily carried away, sobered up, then eyed Ji Lai-Li suspiciously.
Where did this bag even come from?
Aiger, having witnessed Ji Lai-Li’s shameless maneuver firsthand, twitched the corner of his mouth and started calling names. “Ji Lai-Li.”
“Here!” Ji Lai-Li instinctively responded.
“You ashamed of being first place?”
In that instant, Ji Lai-Li swore—every single freshman’s gaze turned toward him.
Curiosity, scrutiny, surprise, disbelief…
Even the Alphas in the front turned their heads to look at him, stretching their necks just to catch a glimpse of the supposed “number one.”
Ji Lai-Li: Bro, take it easy, protect your neck.
He had to admit, being under so much attention made even him feel a little numb.
Especially after witnessing firsthand just how fiercely competitive these Alphas were.
But a little dog never cowers. He rubbed his nose and explained, “Just a joke.”
“Thanks for holding my bag, really appreciate it.” He retrieved the bag from the confused Alpha beside him with a casual smile.
Now, every gaze slid down to the bag in his hands.
Aiger raised an eyebrow. “A bag from the medical room?”
“What are you doing with that? You weren’t injured during this morning’s training, were you?”
Not only was he uninjured, but he had also knocked out several other Alphas.
The ones who had been knocked unconscious by Ji Lai-Li suddenly felt a twinge in the back of their necks.
Shit. The last thing they saw before blacking out—was Ji Lai-Li’s damn face.
“Yeah, I just bought some things,” Ji Lai-Li replied vaguely.
Inside the bag were just common medical supplies. Nothing worth mentioning.
But the surrounding Alphas didn’t think it was that simple.
Countless probing glances landed on the bag.
Could it contain the secret to Ji Lai-Li’s victory?
After the morning’s pheromone training, a rumor had started circulating: Ji Lai-Li was the only Alpha who had resisted the pheromone exposure without losing control.
At first, this rumor was dismissed as hearsay.
But now, with Instructor Aiger confirming his top rank, the claim suddenly seemed much more credible.
Could that bag contain the key to his success?
Lining up to enter the closed training room, Ji Lai-Li found himself under intense scrutiny.
Every Alpha that passed by stared at him, then at his bag, before walking away deep in thought.
Ji Lai-Li: …
He hugged his bag tighter.
For some reason, he had the feeling that these Alphas were itching to snatch it from him.
Surely… just a misperception, right?
Then he felt something against his arm—a dark head with a tiny, tied-up ponytail.
“Po-ge, what are you looking at?”
Lei Po, who had been practically sticking his head into the bag, abruptly straightened up and coughed. “Just curious.”
“……”
Fine. If you’re all so curious, I might as well show you.
Ji Lai-Li generously opened the bag for them to see.
Inside were, indeed, just common medical supplies.
He still had no idea why they were so obsessed with it.
Thinking that was the end of it, he overheard a few freshmen whispering as he passed by.
“I get it now. He must have taken some drug to lose his sense of smell!”
“Shit, so that’s the trick?”
“You’d really give up your sense of smell just for a pheromone training session? No way, I’m not buying it.”
“Yeah, if you’re not buying, I’m not buying either.”
“If neither of you are buying, I won’t buy it either.”
They said that… but Ji Lai-Li could see the fire burning in their eyes.
They were just waiting for training to be over so they could rush to the medical room.
Has anyone ever told you guys your acting sucks?
Ji Lai-Li looked away, too embarrassed for them.
The second round of pheromone training was the same as the first.
The scent they were exposed to hadn’t changed either.
Compared to the morning, when most Alphas had lost control almost immediately, this time, many held out much longer. Their resistance had improved.
Ji Lai-Li wasn’t paired with his two friends this round.
He took a deep breath—no pheromone scent at all.
Only his Alpha genes were reacting with excitement, while he himself remained calm and even yawned, drowsy.
The contrast was striking.
The struggling freshmen: Holy shit. This is terrifying.
Their gazes toward Ji Lai-Li now carried the awe and horror of looking at a monster.
That day, when the medical room reopened, every medicine Ji Lai-Li had purchased was wiped out.
The Beta nurse at the counter, utterly confused, counted star credits.
Wealth had rained down upon her—but she had no idea why.
Out of professional courtesy, she kindly reminded them, “These are just regular medicines. No need to hoard them.”
The Alphas, grim-faced: “You wouldn’t understand.”
Ji Lai-Li must have had a reason for using them!
The Beta nurse: …You’re right. I really don’t understand.
Meanwhile, completely oblivious to all of this, the best-selling champion Ji Lai-Li was embarking on his next mission—
Saving the protagonist!
After being passively assigned tasks for so long, Ji Lai-Li was finally taking the initiative. With his bag of medical supplies in hand, he went off in search of Shen Yu.
He was righteous and confident.
“System bro, I’m not slacking off—I was finishing my reconnaissance.”
“You have to observe the enemy, gather intelligence, and strike with precision! Some opportunities only come once!”
“Alright, now it’s time to infiltrate Shen Yu’s inner circle!”
