Chapter 38: Damn It! The Most Annoying Thing is Pretending!

Shen Yu’s gaze flickered as he looked coldly at the Alpha who had spoken.

The Alpha had a refined appearance and a gentle smile. Seeing Shen Yu looking over, he nodded politely, appearing to appreciate him enough to speak up on his behalf, even at the risk of offending Aegir.

In fact, both the instructors and the patrolling guards outside believed the same thing.

After all, Shen Yu was a recognized prodigy of the Federation, with limitless potential ahead of him.

As for Instructor Philo, he was well-known for cherishing talent. Unlike the hot-tempered instructors who roared louder than thunder, Philo had even been described as “not like an Alpha” before.

When he heard that description, he had only shrugged helplessly with a wry smile. “You all better not say that in front of the other instructors.”

The Alpha grinned mischievously. “Why, Instructor? Shouldn’t we avoid saying it in front of you instead?”

Philo blinked playfully, his tone humorous. “Because if you say it in front of others, I’ll be embarrassed when I get angry.”

The group of Alphas immediately burst into laughter, but at the same time, their fondness for Philo grew.

For this reason, at the Federation Military Academy, Instructor Philo was the most sought-after instructor among the Alphas.

After the freshmen assessments, when students were free to choose their instructors, nearly half would consider him.

Even those who didn’t choose him still held a favorable opinion of Philo, who was known for his emotional stability and gentle temperament.

Except for Shen Yu.

Not only did he not feel any so-called admiration, but he also harbored a faint sense of disgust, his eyes turning icy.

Shen Yu’s attitude made Philo pause for a moment. He then smiled helplessly but didn’t take it to heart.

Thanks to his past life’s experiences, Shen Yu’s actions after his rebirth had made his disdain for Alphas widely known throughout the Federation Military Academy.

Everyone simply assumed that it was just another instance of his dislike for Alphas acting up.

So, after laughing it off, Philo didn’t dwell on it.

“What do you mean by ‘inhumane’?” Aegir directed his hostility toward Philo, his eyes burning with anger.

“The selection of the acting instructor role requires cadets to sign up voluntarily and pass an internal competition. I refused to bend the rules because I am fair and just!”

Aegir sneered. “How did that turn into me being ‘inhumane’ and making Shen Yu suffer?”

“Apologies, I was merely lamenting the situation.” Philo sighed. “Xiao Yu has great talent, doesn’t he? If it weren’t for his susceptibility period, he should have been among the acting instructors as well.”

Aegir bristled with anger. “Oh, so you do realize he’s in his susceptibility period?”

“Yes, but I trust that Xiao Yu is a self-disciplined Alpha.”

Philo chuckled. “I’m sure he understands his own condition and has considered his physical state before making this request.”

He paused briefly, sighed, and furrowed his brows.

“Aegir, you’re his instructor. Don’t you understand him?”

Philo suddenly realized that he might have said something inappropriate. His gaze flickered apologetically toward Shen Yu.

Unfortunately, Aegir caught this subtle moment, and his temper exploded.

“Shit,” Aegir cursed as he kicked a nearby chair.

An Alpha in a fit of rage was truly terrifying. The chair shattered into seven or eight pieces, and even the hovering cleaning robot nearby was caught in the destruction.

The robot’s components scattered across the floor, utterly beyond repair. Dust filled the air.

Several instructors coughed but, after glancing at Aegir’s furious expression, strategically chose to remain silent.

Their throats had suddenly started feeling a bit sore.

“I’m his instructor! Who the hell are you to speak for him?” Aegir narrowed his eyes and suddenly sneered. “Yo, our dear Instructor Philo isn’t still hung up on Shen Yu, is he?”

Shen Yu’s expression remained cold and impassive. His dark eyes, as deep as the abyss, were unreadable. He cast a blank glance at Philo.

Philo, ever patient, smiled helplessly. “Aegir, you’re mistaken.”

“When the cadets were choosing their instructors, Shen Yu didn’t pick you. You looked pretty regretful back then. Now it seems like you still haven’t let it go.”

Aegir’s voice carried a sharp edge. “I don’t care how much you pine over him, but if you have the guts to convince him to transfer to you, then whether he stays or leaves is his choice!”

Philo sighed. “Of course, I regret that Xiao Yu didn’t choose me, but Aegir, you’ve misunderstood me.”

“I only feel sorry for him, that’s all. Though…” Philo smiled warmly. “If he had the chance to choose again, I’d still be looking forward to his answer.”

His gaze fell on Shen Yu, and he smiled at him gently.

Damn it. The most annoying thing is pretending!

Aegir’s temper flared again as he looked at Shen Yu.

Two instructors fighting over a student in public—naturally, the Alphas standing outside couldn’t help but feel envious of Shen Yu.

Even the other instructors were curious about Shen Yu’s decision.

For a moment, the entire room’s attention was on him.

The pale, exquisitely handsome young man remained utterly indifferent, cold and detached.

His dark eyes were like a stagnant pool of water, incapable of being disturbed. He met Philo’s gaze.

The moment their eyes locked, Philo felt as if he had plunged into a cold, damp rainstorm. A chill seeped into his bones.

Unconsciously, he narrowed his eyes slightly before suddenly smiling. “Xiao Yu, is your choice me?”

“No.”

Shen Yu’s voice was emotionless. “Please address me properly as Shen Yu, Instructor Philo.”

He didn’t explicitly state whom he had chosen, as if watching a farcical performance. But his answer was already clear.

Aegir, who had been on the verge of bursting into flames, felt utterly satisfied.

No matter how perfect Philo pretended to be or how good his reputation was, Aegir’s student still wouldn’t choose him.

Aegir smirked and shot Philo a sidelong glance, raising an eyebrow.

“What a pity. Looks like you’ll have to keep regretting it, Philo.”

Philo’s smile faltered slightly but quickly returned to normal.

“Indeed, it’s a pity. But I doubt I’ll regret it for long… After all, there are plenty of other outstanding cadets.”

Aegir scoffed, dismissing Philo’s words as nonsense.

He hoped Philo would regret it for a lifetime!

The two of them were polar opposites and were often compared. Aegir had been fed up with Philo for a long time. Now, having finally managed to piss him off, he found Shen Yu more pleasing than ever.

Feeling refreshed, Aegir declared, “Not bad! As expected of my student, you’ve got good taste. I approve of you becoming an acting instructor. Just compete against those other Alphas and win.”

Aegir, ever vengeful, added, “Make sure to go up against one of Philo’s students and crush them under your feet!”

Shen Yu declined. He had no intention of touching any more filthy Alphas.

And while he was at it…

“When praising me, don’t mix in your personal grudges.”

Aegir: “……”

Aegir sneered. “Just looking at you annoys me. Get lost.”

“Wait, no! Add me back on StarNet right now!” Aegir roared. “You actually dared to delete me? Who’s the instructor here, you or me?!”

Unbelievable!

Meanwhile, the person most upset about Shen Yu becoming an acting instructor was Eugene.

Shen Yu had previously threatened and beaten him up for this very position. Now that he had gotten it, Eugene was even more determined to perform exceptionally well in the role—

He was not going to let Shen Yu replace him!

Then, Eugene received a notification.

“The cleaning robot in the instructors’ office is broken. Instructor Aegir wants you to send over the one from the training field.”

Eugene froze, then turned to look at the shattered remains of the robot on the floor.

“……”
