Aren’t you supposed to be a cold and aloof beauty? Why do you secretly kiss me every night? Chapter 59

Chapter 59: Something Happened!

Leaning lazily against the doorframe, hands in pockets, exuding an air of arrogant coolness—who else could this cocky Alpha be if not Lei Po?

The very person they’d just been talking about suddenly appeared like an unexpected surprise.

Ji Laili’s eyes widened. “Po-ge?”

Lei Po snapped his fingers and raised an eyebrow with a grin. “Surprised?”

Ji Laili grinned, full of admiration. “What a great surprise box.”

“?” Lei Po frowned. “What box?”

Ji Laili blinked, looking mysterious. “Brother, are you searching for medicine on this floor too? Doesn’t look like you’ve had much luck?”

“You really know how to hit where it hurts.”

Lei Po shot him an exasperated look, straightened up, and walked away from the door.

With his signature “I don’t care about anyone” swagger, the Alpha strolled over, glanced at the medicines, and leaned in slightly.

“Don’t bother looking. I already searched this entire place—there’s no damn antidote.”

“No antidote…”

Ji Laili murmured the words, his brows furrowing in thought.

“What? You don’t believe me?”

Hearing Lei Po’s dissatisfied voice, Ji Laili skillfully smoothed things over. “How could I not? You’re Lei Po, after all.”

Lei Po nodded approvingly. “That’s right. I’m Lei Po. Who would dare doubt what I say?”

“Hey!” Lei Po suddenly threw an arm around Ji Laili’s shoulder, only for Ji Laili to immediately dodge away.

Lei Po was already used to this by now—Ji Laili had recently been acting like some kind of chaste, untouchable saint.

At most, Lei Po could only complain about how Shen Yu had completely brainwashed him.

That guy’s methods were downright vicious.

“You’ve got good taste now, kid—finally saying something pleasant. No wonder you’re my brother!”

Of course, he had to take a moment to praise himself.

Ji Laili rolled his eyes. What a half-hearted compliment.

Speaking of which, he had to thank Eugene for this.

That guy’s famous “Because I’m Eugene” line had completely reshaped Ji Laili’s understanding of narcissistic Alphas.

Little Alpha, easily handled.

With a slight curve of his eyes, Ji Laili resumed searching through the medicines.

Lei Po, puzzled, asked, “If there’s no antidote, what are you still looking for?”

“Not an antidote—something for stopping bleeding.”

“Zhai-ge got injured.”

Ji Laili briefly explained the earlier mix-up.

Lei Po immediately burst into gleeful laughter. “Ha! Beautifully done!”

“That poison bastard definitely didn’t expect to fall into your hands.”

Ji Laili shot him a deadpan look, clearly feeling guilty again.

Damn it, that nagging guilt was creeping back in.

Lei Po just waved it off, unconcerned. “Relax, Young Master Zhai may be a bit petty, but he won’t hold this against you.”

“By the way, didn’t you say you came here with him?”

Lei Po glanced around the lab. “How come I haven’t seen him?”

“I ran too fast… Zhai-ge should still be outside…” Ji Laili’s words trailed off as he suddenly looked at Lei Po.

Lei Po’s cocky demeanor shifted slightly. Their eyes met.

Then, at the same time, they bolted toward the door!

Something was wrong!

Given Zhai Yifei’s personality, he would’ve followed him in reluctantly.

Even if he had gone to search elsewhere, he would have at least mentioned it.

But if Lei Po had to ask where he was, that meant he hadn’t seen Zhai Yifei when he arrived.

Shit.

Ji Laili suddenly remembered Zhai Yifei’s arm injury, worry flashing in his eyes.

Medical Building, Second-Floor Corridor

The cold scent of disinfectant filled the air.

Several doors nearby were open, but there was no sign of anyone.

“Zhai-ge—”

Bang!

A gunshot rang out at the end of the hallway, followed by the sound of a commotion.

Zhai Yifei hadn’t expected to run into trouble so suddenly.

He had followed Ji Laili to the second floor.

But after glancing at his map through his visor, he looked up—only to see a whirlwind of excitement disappearing into the distance.

“……”

Was finding an antidote really that thrilling?

Zhai Yifei sighed and followed after Ji Laili.

And that was when the unexpected happened.

Behind the staircase, a chorus of hurried footsteps echoed, mixed with several Alphas cursing:

“That brat Ji Laili is a real pain in the ass!”

“How the hell does he run so fast? I’ve asked around, but no one’s seen him. Is he playing hide-and-seek?”

“Should we switch targets? Just make him the backup plan.”

“Who’s the primary target then? How about Zhai Yifei and Lei Po? We can’t let our mission stop here.”

“Backup plan? You think this is childbirth?”

“Listen up, I don’t care if we fail the test—Ji Laili must die!!!”

The last sentence was practically shouted, the Alpha speaking so worked up his eyes were bloodshot.

Then, as he looked up, his expression froze.

“Zhai… Zhai Shao?!”

At the top of the staircase, Zhai Yifei stood, gazing down at them with a calm yet intimidating presence.

It was unclear how much he had overheard.

He raised his quantum gun.

“Tough luck. Looks like you won’t be getting that chance.”

The Alphas exchanged glances.

Their initial shock faded, replaced by a strange excitement—like they had just spotted prey.

This was the first time Zhai Yifei had ever been looked at this way. His expression darkened in displeasure.

Then, he heard them start chuckling ominously.

“Go ahead. Shoot.”

“Zhai Shao is pretty lucky. Looks like no one’s ever chased you before.”

“Don’t you know quantum guns don’t work on mutants? They don’t affect us at all.”

Zhai Yifei: “……”

Well, that was unexpected.

Since the quantum gun was useless, he didn’t fire. Instead, as they moved to engage him, he quickly backed away, luring them further away.

Ji Laili was inside looking for the antidote.

If Zhai Yifei could keep these Alphas occupied, Ji Laili would have the time he needed.

With the antidote in hand, these “mutants” would no longer pose a threat.

In mere seconds, Zhai Yifei assessed the situation and subtly led the fight away.

But what happened next was completely beyond his expectations.

These “mutants” truly seemed unbeatable. They could attack freely, but if touched, the opponent would be eliminated.

Even though they were unarmed, the other students weren’t pushovers either—especially since the commotion was attracting more Alphas.

Upon seeing Zhai Yifei being swarmed by over a dozen attackers, the group enthusiastically began their—no, not a sermon—but a full-blown brainwashing campaign.

—Overthrow the instructors! Take down the top contenders! Create an era that belongs to mutants!

By now, dozens of Alphas had gathered around Zhai Yifei, all of them unfortunate souls who had been “mutated” and eliminated.

The more they listened, the more fired up they became. One after another, they shouted bold declarations, their energy explosive. Some even flipped off the floating surveillance cameras above in open provocation.

For a moment, it felt as if Zhai Yifei had been thrown into the middle of a hot-blooded shounen anime.

“……”

His mouth twitched slightly—then, his pupils shrank as he suddenly caught sight of an Alpha in front of him, who had been laughing wildly just a second ago.

He barked out sharply, “Hey! What the hell are you trying to do—?!”

The threat was coming from behind him!

A chilling sensation ran down the back of his neck. Zhai Yifei’s gaze sharpened.

Spinning around instinctively, he felt a sharp sting slice across his gland, trailing all the way to his neck. Without thinking, he fired a shot!

Bang!

The quantum round hit the man’s hand.

But at the same moment, the man’s fingers brushed against Zhai Yifei’s shoulder.

Clatter.

A syringe tumbled to the ground, its long, silver needle glinting faintly—stained with fresh blood.
