Chapter 60: How Does That Guy Even Deserve It?

“Zhai-ge!”

A voice called from afar. Zhai Yifei pressed a hand to his stinging gland and looked over.

The first thing he saw was an Alpha with chestnut-colored curly hair sprinting toward him. The crescent-moon eyes, usually warm and clear, had turned sharp and serious.

And…

Just a step behind, leaping effortlessly over the railing from the other side, was Lei Po.

The two exchanged a glance. Zhai Yifei averted his gaze and instead focused on the syringe lying on the ground.

Blood trickled from the wound on his gland, starting from the pale skin at the back of his neck and trailing down past his Adam’s apple.

His voice was icy. “I think you need to explain yourself.”

Attacking someone’s gland—it was utterly despicable.

For both Alphas and Omegas, the gland was something private. Only Betas were indifferent about it, treating it as just another piece of flesh.

But something about the syringe, about the attack itself, struck Ji Laili with a strange sense of familiarity.

He lifted his gaze. The Alpha who had ambushed Zhai Yifei was dressed in the same form-fitting black combat suit as the rest of them, his face obscured by tactical goggles.

The goggles hid most of his expression, making it impossible to read his face.

However, the surrounding Alphas were clearly unimpressed, frowning at him as if ashamed to be associated with him. At this moment, attacking someone was the last thing on their minds.

Ji Laili pushed forward, calling, “Make way, make way.” Miraculously, the crowd parted, allowing him to reach Zhai Yifei’s side, with Lei Po following close behind.

“Zhai-ge, you—”

“Don’t come any closer!” Zhai Yifei frowned and took a step back. “I’ve been eliminated.”

Ji Laili paused. Sure enough, the red mark on Zhai Yifei’s chest was already smoking.

“Then your gland…?”

Zhai Yifei shook his head. “Just a scratch, nothing serious.”

From behind, Lei Po’s irritated voice rang out:

“You got eliminated by some no-name piece of trash like this? How the hell does that guy even deserve it?”

A sharp whoosh cut through the air. Ji Laili turned just in time to see Lei Po pull a photon blade from who-knows-where. The arrogant, sharp-featured youth scowled as he lunged at the Alpha, ready to strike!

“I said, do you not get that this has nothing to do with you?”

The surrounding Alphas were completely dumbfounded.

Lei Po sneered, a cold smirk tugging at his lips. He swung the blade forcefully!

His attack was aggressive, and his opponent clearly struggled to keep up. Forced to retreat several steps, the Alpha barely managed to parry Lei Po’s strikes.

Just one exchange was enough to expose the gap in their strength.

Lei Po, even more displeased now, shot a glance at a pale-faced, highborn-looking Alpha who was watching the fight.

“You actually got eliminated by this guy?”

“Zhai Young Master, your second place is making my first place look really bad, don’t you think?”

This was… really pissing him off.

Zhai Yifei’s face darkened. “I suggest you focus.”

“And you think I need you to teach me?” A vibration ran through the photon blade in Lei Po’s hand, forcing him to shut up and concentrate.

The Alpha opponent, realizing he wasn’t a match, didn’t even bother with a prolonged fight. He turned and ran.

Lei Po frowned and cursed under his breath, but just then—

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sharp screech of friction sent shivers down their spines.

Quantum bullets struck the ground, scattering golden sparks and blocking the escape route.

Crescent-moon eyes curved slightly. Ji Laili spun his quantum gun around his finger, then with a crisp click, aimed the barrel at the fleeing Alpha.

His smile was there, but devoid of warmth.

“Leaving so soon? That’s not very polite, is it?”

“A senior who can’t even beat a freshman and resorts to sneak attacks…”

His smile faded. His sharp features turned cold as he stared straight at the Alpha, his chestnut curls slightly tousled.

His bright eyes gleamed, now tinged with a serious, icy chill.

“Has no one ever told you? You don’t touch someone’s gland.

“……”

The Alpha still said nothing, as if oblivious to the disdainful stares from those around him. He showed no reaction to Ji Laili and Lei Po’s words.

Which made him even more deserving of a beating.

His attitude convinced Ji Laili there was no point in talking anymore.

You reason with people.

With trash?

Just throw it in the damn bin.

“Po-ge, you’re not done having fun yet, right? Want to go again?” Ji Laili raised an eyebrow.

Lei Po grinned. “Now you’re talking.”

The two exchanged a glance and struck at the same time. Their movements were fast and ruthless. The Alpha, already struggling before, could barely hold his ground against one of them—let alone both.

Especially since Ji Laili’s combat skills were just as good, if not better.

Trapped between them, the Alpha kept falling back, barely hanging on.

Lei Po, ever the menace, suddenly smirked mid-fight. He shot Ji Laili a playful look.

“Lailai, wanna play some ball?”

Before Ji Laili could react, Lei Po’s military boot kicked the Alpha, sending him flying into the air!

Then, with a practiced swing of his photon blade—

WHAM!

He smashed the Alpha straight toward Ji Laili.

The onlookers: !!!

Ji Laili: !!!

This bastard. Where did he get all this endless energy from?!

Wait!

Just as Ji Laili instinctively prepared to catch the “ball,” he suddenly remembered—if that guy touched him, he’d be eliminated too.

With a swift sidestep, Ji Laili dodged perfectly.

He shot Lei Po a long, pointed look. “Po-ge, did you do that on purpose?”

Lei Po grinned smugly. “Not bad. As expected of my rival—you actually saw through it.”

Ji Laili’s crescent-moon eyes narrowed as he stared at Lei Po in mock reproach.

Lei Po coughed lightly. “Come on, it was just a joke, and you actually believed it? You think I had time to consider all that while serving up a shot?”

“I just don’t know how many hits it takes to count as a point. If we beat this guy to a pulp, let’s compare scores later.”

“I’ll even give you Zhai Young Master’s second place as a gift.”

Ji Laili laughed. “Hey, hey, bro, I told you not to get too possessive over my first place.”

Lei Po clicked his tongue. Who said Ji Laili didn’t have the cocky attitude of an Alpha? Just look at that confidence.

If he hadn’t double-checked earlier and confirmed that this guy’s ranking was actually tenth, he might have been fooled.

Lei Po tossed his photon blade in the air, drawing Ji Laili’s attention.

Ji Laili eyed it with envy. “Po-ge, where’d you snatch that from? I didn’t know we had gear like that.”

Lei Po looked at him in surprise. “Snatch? It came with my pack.”

Saying this, he raised an eyebrow, looking effortlessly cool. “Not bad, suits me.”

“What did you draw? Show me.”

Ji Laili: “……”

His expression turned blank, as if all the strength and tricks he had were drained in that moment.

Meanwhile, the Alpha they had just tag-teamed—who had been kicked, tossed around, stripped of all dignity, and even turned into an actual ball only to be left uncaught—was furious.

These two damn Alphas!

Behind his visor, his eyes flickered with rage as he glared toward a specific spot in the crowd. His voice was low, seething with anger, carrying a strange, awkward accent.

“Are you still not going to act?”

“How long do you plan to stand there watching?!”

Ji Laili, who had been here for over two weeks, had never heard an Alpha with an accent before. His expression turned intrigued.

But while he found it interesting, the reaction from most of the Alphas around them was starkly different. Their expressions changed, disbelief flashing across their faces.

“He’s from the Empire,” Zhai Yifei said, his gaze turning cold as he identified the Alpha on the ground.

“Shit!”

Lei Po, who had still been somewhat nonchalant, instantly shed his relaxed demeanor—his expression darkening with unmistakable killing intent.

“Then let’s capture him and get some answers.”
