Ji Laili took a shallow breath and glanced to the side.
His expression stiffened. Reflected in his clear eyes was a pale yet strikingly beautiful face.
The sharp, defined features, cold black eyes under dark hair—deep, damp, and almost inhumanly chilling.
At first glance, he was the kind of person who made others instinctively back away, difficult to approach.
Yet now, there was a faint blush spreading across that face.
A soft, fleeting red—delicate and stunning beyond belief.
Long lashes trembled slightly as the person shut his eyes for a moment, as if enduring something.
Any previous sense of distance or intimidation vanished completely.
“Shen Yu?!”
Seeing the familiar face before him, Ji Laili felt an almost surreal disbelief, nearly doubting his own eyes.
But the waist beneath his palm was slender yet firm. The moment he gripped it, it tensed in shock.
And when he unconsciously applied more pressure, it trembled slightly—soft, as if about to slip away.
For a split second, Ji Laili had the absurd thought that he was holding onto a dangerous yet delicate snake.
Forgive his panicked and disoriented mind for coming up with such an awkward metaphor.
The waist beneath his palm was getting softer and softer, as if truly about to collapse.
Without thinking, Ji Laili panicked and hurriedly supported Shen Yu, using his body as a brace to keep him from showing any signs of weakness in front of the crowd.
Shen Yu turned his head slightly to glance at the clueless culprit, then silently accepted the help.
The tingling sensation in his waist lingered.
Suppressing the strange feeling, Shen Yu looked forward with a cold expression.
He raised his hand and fired a shot at the one who had ambushed Ji Laili.
The quantum bullet tore precisely through the crowd, hitting a plain-looking male Alpha.
The gunshot and his scream immediately drew attention.
At the same moment, the new recruits spotted Shen Yu, their faces lighting up with excitement.
No matter how much they had privately complained about Shen Yu’s arrogance and aloofness—how frustratingly untouchable he seemed, or how badly they had wanted to defeat him—
At this moment, all of that vanished, replaced by pure exhilaration.
“Shen-xuezhang?!”
“The reinforcements are Shen-xuezhang? Holy shit, I’m pumped now!”
“Imperial scum, your days are numbered.”
“Look at these bastards getting all riled up! Come on, come at me if you dare!”
If Ji Laili had been their first morale boost, Shen Yu’s arrival was the second.
Their exhaustion melted away—they felt like they could fight another eight hundred rounds!
After all, this was Shen Yu.
The true prodigy of the Federal Military Academy, the untouchable figure standing at the top.
Seeing Ji Laili land safely, along with Shen Yu joining the battle, Lei Po raised an eyebrow with a smirk. With a casual flick, he drove his blade straight into the waistband of a nearby Imperial soldier.
With a dramatic flourish, he lifted the terrified enemy, twirling him twice as if he were nothing more than a flag on a pole.
“Lailai! He’s all yours.”
“The spotlight here should be mine—time to show these bastards what it means when the Thunder God gets angry!”
Lei Po, thoroughly impressed with himself, was convinced that he looked incredibly badass at that moment.
He even threw Ji Laili a confident ‘Leave it to me’ glance.
Completely ignoring the fact that Ji Laili was so mortified by his cringe that he could barely look at him—
And also ignoring the deathly glare from Shen Yu.
“This feeling of secondhand embarrassment is unbearable,” Ji Laili thought. “But even if Shen Yu hates me, he wouldn’t attack me right now, would he?”
“He saved Laili just now. I don’t think you need to worry about that,” a voice cut in—Zhai Yifei, blood staining his combat uniform, his lips pale from blood loss. He cast a glance at Lei Po’s weapon.
“That blade must be suffering, being stuck with you.”
Lei Po snorted, dropping the enemy impaled on his blade. “You should worry about your own wounds instead.”
Shen Yu’s arrival had given the new recruits another surge of confidence, but it also drew more enemies toward them.
Ji Laili kicked the first attacker in front of him.
The sheer force sent the man sliding backward several meters, knocking down a group of advancing Alphas like dominoes.
That bought them a brief moment to escape.
“Move,” Ji Laili said to Shen Yu.
But before he could go, someone tugged at his sleeve.
Ji Laili turned in confusion—
And saw the man that the world regarded as cold and untouchable, standing at the pinnacle of excellence, gazing at him with dark eyes.
For a moment, there was a quiet, almost obedient softness in Shen Yu’s expression.
After a pause, he finally spoke:
“…My waist feels weak.”
Ji Laili blinked. “Huh? Why?”
Shen Yu shot him a look. “You were holding on too tightly.”
He hesitated for a second, ears tinged with red, then added coolly, “Next time, don’t do that.”
