Chapter 70: Here, Bro, I’ll Send You Off

The one-minute countdown was meant to allow non-participants to exit the battlefield.

After all, this was a freshman assessment, and those who weren’t involved had no reason to stay.

Before leaving, the Beta instructor called out to Shen Yu, “Come on, let’s go. The rest is up to these Alphas.”

“You go ahead, Instructor.”

The Beta instructor frowned. “You’re… not leaving?”

The young man, wearing the dark blue visor provided for the assessment, turned his head at the question.

Even though his expression was hidden, the Beta instructor could easily imagine Shen Yu’s usual cold and indifferent look.

“I have something to take care of. You go ahead.”

Shen Yu raised a hand to touch his visor, murmuring, “It’s a surprise.”

The Beta instructor didn’t quite understand but didn’t press the issue. He simply turned and led the other students out.

Soon, the only ones left in the virtual scenario were the freshmen and Shen Yu standing on the other side.

At the same time, the countdown reached zero.

The ten-minute elimination round had officially begun.

Almost immediately, the sounds of combat filled the air—fists colliding, gunfire echoing.

Ji Laili rolled on the ground, narrowly dodging attacks from two nearby Alphas.

Without hesitation, he raised his gun.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Three shots fired—two hit their marks, instantly extinguishing the red markers on his attackers.

As for the third shot…

Lei Po scowled. “Did you do that on purpose?”

Ji Laili scratched the back of his head, eyes curved in a mischievous smile. “Hehe, just a bad shot, bro. You good?”

Lei Po seethed, “My boot isn’t!”

He lifted his leg, revealing his black military boot—now with a hole in it, exposing his purple sock underneath.

Ji Laili blinked. “Purple means good fortune, right? That’s lucky—Bro Po, watch out!”

“Tch.” Lei Po dodged an incoming strike, grumbling, “That weak move wouldn’t even scratch me.”

“Where’s that venomous bastard? Did he get knocked out already?”

“You should worry about yourself.”

A cool and arrogant voice cut through the fight.

Zhai Yifei looked pale, but his eyes were filled with a fierce determination to win. He fired several shots with effortless precision.

Each shot found its mark—even the most agile Alphas couldn’t escape his aim.

Every time Zhai Yifei pulled the trigger, he never missed.

Damn, that’s impressive.

Ji Laili grinned. “You’re right, Bro Po, you should focus on yourself. Better not let Brother Zhai pop your head off!”

“Hah, him?”

Just as Lei Po scoffed, a quantum bullet whizzed toward him.

“Shit—” He ducked, but not fast enough—the bullet grazed his cheek, drawing blood.

Twice now. Same damn spot.

Lei Po wiped the blood away with his thumb and smirked, his eyes gleaming with battle lust.

“Alright, show me what you’ve got!”

Zhai Yifei smirked back. “Gladly.”

“Hey, hey, if you guys keep this up, I’ll have to finish this fast.”

Ji Laili’s eyes sparkled with excitement as he pulled the trigger and launched himself with a grappling device.

As the retracting cable yanked him into the air, the wind tousled his curls.

He beamed. “I told you, I’m taking first place!”

Lei Po raised an eyebrow. “If you’ve got guts, toss that thing away and say that again.”

Ji Laili waved the device in his hand and flashed a grin. “I refuse!”

That was his trophy.

His gaze flickered toward a certain cold and beautiful figure on the other side of the field.

Ji Laili raised his gun—bang! Another Alpha eliminated.

As the elimination round progressed, only 130 participants remained.

Countdown: 6 minutes.

Ji Laili, Zhai Yifei, and Lei Po didn’t attack each other, instead focusing on clearing out the other Alphas.

Countdown: 4 minutes.

The once-crowded second-floor battlefield had thinned out—only 48 Alphas remained.

Countdown: 2 minutes.

The number dropped to 10. The fragile peace between them shattered.

Zhai Yifei struck first.

Three shots fired—one toward an attacking Alpha.

The other two?

One for Lei Po.

One for Ji Laili.

For the first time, Ji Laili truly felt the pressure of Zhai Yifei’s marksmanship—that chilling certainty of being locked onto.

But luckily, I’ve got a cheat.

Using his grappling device, he narrowly dodged the quantum bullets.

While soaring through the air, he wasted no time—eliminating more opponents as he moved.

Countdown: 1 minute.

Only three remained.

Zhai Yifei shot Ji Laili’s grappling cable, severing it.

Ji Laili twisted midair, finding a landing spot and touching down unscathed.

But the moment he landed, he saw Lei Po charging forward—already locked in close combat with Zhai Yifei.

Unlike Ji Laili, who could still dodge in midair, Lei Po was taking hit after hit.

His once-handsome face was streaked with blood.

Zhai Yifei seemed to be deliberately targeting his face, as if punishing him.

His arm, dangerously close to the red marker on his chest, had a deep wound, blood dripping steadily.

Ji Laili couldn’t see Lei Po’s expression through the blood but knew he was fighting like a madman.

Taking shot after shot, yet refusing to fall—until he finally closed the distance.

Once in melee range, Zhai Yifei lost the chance to fire his gun.

This is it!

Ji Laili’s eyes lit up.

He pulled out… a pair of chopsticks.

It’s all up to you now, my secret weapon.

With precise aim, he flicked the chopsticks toward Zhai Yifei’s wrist.

Zhai Yifei felt a sudden pain—his grip loosened, and with a clatter, his quantum gun hit the ground.

Lei Po took the chance to kick it away.

Without a gun and already injured, Zhai Yifei wasn’t a match for Lei Po in hand-to-hand combat.

A second later, red smoke flared from his marker—eliminated.

It all happened in a flash.

Zhai Yifei raised an eyebrow, chuckling lightly. “What a shame.”

He glanced at Ji Laili. “Laili, why don’t you let that guy experience what it means to always be second place?”

Lei Po scoffed. “I’m taking first. You’ll be disappointed, Zhai.”

Zhai Yifei smirked. “We’ll see.”

As his figure faded, Ji Laili had already darted toward Lei Po.

“Shit, this kid is fast!”

Countdown: 34 Seconds

Only Ji Laili and Lei Po remained, locked in a fierce struggle.

Both were fighting barehanded.

It didn’t take long for Lei Po to realize that if this continued, he would lose.

His sharp gaze darkened with determination. Ignoring his injuries, he deliberately left an opening, baiting Ji Laili before using the chance to create distance.

Ji Laili hadn’t expected Lei Po to go this far.

He instinctively reached for his gun—only to freeze in shock when he found his holster empty.

Lei Po spat out a mouthful of blood and grinned.

With his face already covered in blood, that grin revealed a set of crimson-stained teeth.

Damn… that’s ugly.

Ji Laili wanted to look away but knew he couldn’t afford any distractions now. His expression twisted in frustration.

Lei Po noticed and smirked, casually tossing the quantum gun up and down in his hand.

“Laili, let me teach you something—never, under any circumstances, lose your gun.”

He raised the weapon, its dark barrel aimed straight at Ji Laili.

“Here, bro—let me send you off.”
