Ji Laili curved his eyes and smiled, “What do you think? Isn’t this a once-and-for-all solution?”
Now, even if the other party wanted to act maliciously, they had no way to do so.
[Ding! Male lead’s darkening value -1]
Ji Laili was pleasantly surprised. “Is it really that effective? How much darkening value is left?”
The system silently pulled up the panel. The glaring [9999] was particularly striking.
Ji Laili: …That’s a lot. So much that it seems impossible to clear.
It’s fine. He comforted himself the next second. What mission expert? It’s only the second day, and he already managed to lower a bit of the darkening value. Who else could match his progress?
At worst… he, he would just take down a few more perverted Jiji, purify this world, and make Shen Yu feel good!
After reassuring himself, Ji Laili’s mood lifted again. He looked at Shen Yu with an unstoppable bright smile. “Senior, what do you think?”
Shen Yu… Shen Yu was momentarily speechless.
Strangely, he even had a fleeting thought—seeing an Alpha fainting on the ground was indeed quite pathetic.
And the fact that he could have such a thought was even stranger.
How could there be an Alpha…
Who could say something like that so naturally?
Faced with Ji Laili’s question, Shen Yu glanced at the Alpha on the ground. Ji Laili clearly saw him frown. “Forget it…”
Shen Yu still didn’t want to dirty his hands—just the pure, literal meaning of it.
The idea of personally dealing with it disgusted him.
Perhaps, in a stroke of luck, when the Alpha woke up again and found his body intact, he cried out like a child.
But when Shen Yu’s cold gaze swept over, he immediately silenced himself, sobbing quietly with tears streaming down his face. He didn’t even dare to make a sound, fearing that if he upset Shen Yu, his “chicken” wouldn’t be safe.
Arrogance? Resentment? All of it melted into sheer relief.
Originally, Shen Yu had planned to torture him to death to prevent his secret from being exposed.
But now, it seemed there was a better solution—just as Ji Laili said. For garbage like this, any price he paid was a loss.
Shen Yu tossed him a syringe. His dark eyes looked down at the trembling, silently sobbing Alpha on the ground. “Inject it.”
“W-what is this?”
The deep blue liquid floated in a transparent vial, giving no hint of its nature.
Ji Laili also looked at Shen Yu with curiosity.
“If you don’t inject it, do you want to experience something worse?” Shen Yu’s gaze dropped lower, carrying an icy malice.
“I’ll do it! I’ll do it!” Concerning his dignity, the Alpha didn’t dare refuse. He immediately opened the vial and injected all the liquid into his body under Shen Yu’s watchful eyes.
After injecting the drug, and with Shen Yu’s permission, the Alpha turned pale and fled the room at top speed.
“What was that?”
“A failed genetic drug experiment,” Shen Yu replied. “There are plenty on the market, but the failed ones turn blue.”
Genetic enhancement drugs, sold at astronomical prices on the StarNet, were used by wealthy Alphas and Omegas to boost their potential. However, the failed versions had severe side effects.
Overstimulating potential—within a month, the organs would gradually fail, leading to death.
Yet, because the drug components remained consistent, no tests would ever detect anything unusual.
Of course, Shen Yu wasn’t going to let that Alpha off easily. But compared to the original storyline—where two people were killed, leading to an investigation and mass arrests—this was a much cleaner solution.
Ji Laili thought, One of the two from the original plot survived, and the other will die quietly. That’s much better. Senior Shen’s darkening value is already so high; let’s cut him some slack.
According to the reward-and-punishment system, Shen Yu had already done very well. He deserved some encouragement.
As a former police academy student, Ji Laili firmly remembered his instructors’ teachings: always encourage those who are trying to reform, so they feel confident in continuing down the right path.
So, he beamed. “Senior, you’re amazing! Keep it up!”
Shen Yu: “…?”
Was he being mocked?
[Ding! Male lead’s darkening value +1]
Ji Laili: “?”
His face was full of dog-like shock. “Senior, are you upset?”
And why could the darkening value increase again?!
Shen Yu glanced at his incredulous expression. The young man had a head of fluffy, soft chestnut curls. With his bewildered expression, he looked inexplicably… adorable.
Shen Yu averted his gaze. “No.”
[Ding! Male lead’s darkening value -1]
Was there really no data error?
Ji Laili scratched his head, making his fluffy curls puff up even more. Shen Yu’s gaze lingered on him for a moment, unreadable. “Now that it’s handled, anything else?”
His voice was cool and distant. “Leaving already?”
There was nothing left to do here. Ji Laili nodded. “We’ve been away too long. It’s not good. Let’s go back to training.”
Physical training was exhausting, but when you endured the hardest parts—when even your fingertips trembled—there was a real sense of accomplishment.
Especially in this world, it was no wonder Alphas were so arrogant. Their genetics were truly different.
After integrating Alpha genes, his agility, endurance, and stamina had skyrocketed.
Setting aside the downsides, Ji Laili loved his enhanced body. He was eager for training—practically itching to start, full of energy like an excited puppy.
Yes, little Laili the puppy desperately wanted to run around.
He completely failed to notice the deepening shadows in Shen Yu’s gaze as it circled over him, again and again.
Shen Yu had never met an Alpha like this—not in either of his lifetimes.
Ji Laili gave him an indescribable feeling… He couldn’t sense even a trace of attention from him.
Ji Laili simply didn’t care about him—whether he was the proud and untouchable “Senior Shen,” or a differentiated Alpha with a natural allure.
A phrase surfaced in Shen Yu’s mind: pure and untainted. He wanted to laugh at himself. The coldness on his face deepened, not directed at Ji Laili, but at the memories of his past.
Because every other Alpha he had encountered was the complete opposite of “pure and untainted.”
Today, Shen Yu had actually prepared two failed genetic drugs.
He was still in his differentiation period. Someone had discovered his secret—an Alpha he loathed.
Ji Laili should have been just like that other Alpha, destined to die in a month, unnoticed.
He had no intention of sparing him. He didn’t care about cooperation.
And yet… his fingers touched the vial inside his uniform. He clenched them slightly. For some reason, it felt hot.
“Senior Shen?”
A pack of tissues was handed over.
Seeing Shen Yu remain silent, staring down at his uniform, Ji Laili recalled how the other Alpha had struggled and seemed to touch Shen Yu’s clothes.
The male lead apparently disliked Alpha contact. Given the original storyline, Ji Laili could understand. He pulled out a pack of tissues and offered it with a smile. “Want to wipe it off?”
Shen Yu’s gaze swept over the tissues and settled on Ji Laili’s bright expression. He slowly spoke, “What are you doing?”
“That Alpha accidentally touched you earlier. Don’t you need to clean it?”
The young man’s long fingers held the tissue pack. It was already unsealed—he must have used one himself.
Shen Yu took it on impulse.
Holding it didn’t evoke the usual disgust, revulsion, or killing intent.
His dark eyes flickered with something unreadable. “Ji Laili, I will always be watching you.”
He would always watch him.
There were too many filthy Alphas. If he ever discovered that Ji Laili was just like them…
He promised—he would make sure he died even more miserably.
