Shen Yu froze. His mind went completely blank.
This was a scenario he had never even imagined, and for a moment, he didn’t know how to react.
But his pheromones were far more honest—shifting with panic, confusion… and affection.
Ah… so this was love.
Ji Laili couldn’t hold back a laugh.
He really does like me.
“Achoo! Achoo!”
He kept sneezing, but he was still laughing—and he had to rub it in.
“You really like me, huh?”
His nose was killing him. Trying to analyze emotions through scent was way too difficult for him.
Right now, his nose felt completely blocked, like all the air was stuck in his throat.
But the rush of emotions flooding his brain overpowered that discomfort, making the whole situation feel like a ridiculous little game.
“…Yes, I like you.”
The brief moment of panic passed. Shen Yu’s rationality returned, his face resuming its usual cold, detached expression—so cold it was ridiculous.
Saying “I like you” in that tone made it sound more like:
“Yes, I’m going to kill you.”
But who would’ve thought—this guy’s fingers were shaking right now.
Ji Laili, still grinning, looked at him and thought:
Wow, I should be evil about this.
He just loved seeing his little butterfly with that cold, intimidating face—while secretly trembling, struggling to keep his composure.
So cute.
Maybe I’ll wait a bit before telling him I like him too.
But first—
Ji Laili shot a glance at the group of frozen Alpha bystanders, smirking as he waved at them.
“Spying isn’t a good habit, you know.”
Then, without hesitation, he dragged Shen Yu out of their sight.
What’s a better hiding place than a dorm room?
So, he brought Shen Yu straight to his dorm.
The moment the fingerprint lock clicked open, Ji Laili pushed him down onto a chair.
He leaned in—his gaze burning—his posture sharp and unwavering, like he was interrogating a suspect.
Shen Yu had nowhere to escape.
“Shen-senpai, it’s time for a harsh interrogation.”
Ji Laili blinked.
“Be honest with your confession, okay~?”
Shen Yu, still dazed, tilted his head slightly—his gaze sweeping over Ji Laili’s face, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
“When did you find out?”
Oh? He’s asking when I found out?
So that means… it’s been a while, huh?
Ji Laili’s detective instincts immediately kicked in.
He spotted the flaw in Shen Yu’s wording—his eyes curving into a playful squint as he dug for more information.
“Just yesterday, I think. I had my suspicions before, but I wasn’t sure.”
He had always assumed Shen Yu only saw him as a friend.
Why was he so sure?
Because friends could have possessiveness too.
And Shen Yu?
He only had one friend—Ji Laili.
He always kept his distance. He disliked Alphas, and he treated Betas with the same cold indifference. No one could get close to him.
Ji Laili was his only friend.
So, if his little butterfly showed possessiveness, it made perfect sense.
That’s why Ji Laili had tried to suppress any feelings that went beyond friendship—he didn’t want to ruin what they had.
Wouldn’t that feel like betrayal to Shen Yu?
But hey—guess I got lucky.
Ji Laili held back his laughter, trying to look serious—he even recalled scenes from his past interrogations to keep a straight face.
With a stern expression, he pressed on.
“What else are you hiding from me?”
Shen Yu’s heart sank.
He had never seen Ji Laili look at him like this.
There was not even a hint of a smile.
The Alpha, who was usually as energetic as an excited puppy, now had the sharp intensity of a soldier questioning an enemy.
Shen Yu’s lips curled slightly.
“You really want to know?”
“Laili, during interrogations, there’s a gentler approach too. If you’re too cold to me, I won’t be able to handle it. Just smile for me, okay?”
He really, really didn’t want to see Ji Laili’s cold face.
Smile, huh?
Without hesitation, Ji Laili gave him a bright, beaming smile.
Then immediately said, “Okay, now talk.”
Hurry up, hurry up!
Shen Yu, however, felt no relief from that brief smile.
His voice was slightly tense.
“You already know everything?”
“Yup.”
(From someone who actually knew nothing at all.)
Shen Yu exhaled softly.
“The single room given to the top student—I asked Instructor Aiger to assign us as roommates instead.”
Ji Laili blinked.
Oh, so that’s why Zhai-ge said there should’ve been enough dorm space.
“I requested your class schedule in advance and applied to be your assistant instructor.”
So that’s why… the moment I got my schedule, Shen Yu was already there.
Ji Laili bit back a grin.
Oh, so he planned this for a while.
He tried to hold in his amusement, forcing a serious expression as he continued his interrogation.
“Ahem. What else?”
Shen Yu pressed his lips together, his ears burning.
Facing Ji Laili’s deliberately cold expression, the warmth in his chest vanished instantly.
His pale face was unusually emotionless, his jaw tightly clenched as he avoided Ji Laili’s gaze.
If this conversation continued… their relationship would truly shatter.
All because of that little butterfly.
Did Ji Laili realize his feelings and find them so unbearable that he came here to end things?
“…I wanted to kill that little Omega.”
Shen Yu murmured softly.
Every single word landed clearly in Ji Laili’s ears.
Ji Laili’s eyes widened in shock.
“What…?”
“I wanted to kill him. Over and over again.“
Shen Yu looked up.
His dark, misty eyes carried undisguised murderous intent, the corners tinged with a faint, bloody red.
Pale yet eerie, his slightly upturned lips radiated a kind of nervous, fragile beauty.
“I’ve always wanted to kill him.”
“Laili, I regret not doing it.”
Ji Laili’s expression turned severe.
“You can’t kill him!”
The person in front of him laughed.
But in the next second, that faint red at the corners of his eyes spread—his once-cold expression melted, the eerie aura fading.
Tears began to fall, one after another.
Sliding down his pale cheeks.
Disappearing into the collar of his clothes.
His dark, tear-streaked eyes glistened with mist as he looked at Ji Laili, his voice hoarse.
“Do you… really like him that much?”
“But I was… good too.”
Ji Laili suddenly felt helpless.
“Don’t cry…”
But his words did nothing.
Shen Yu only cried harder.
He made no sound.
If Ji Laili hadn’t been looking at him, he would never have known that Shen Yu’s tear-stained face even existed.
He just stared at him, crying in complete silence.
Ji Laili tugged at his curls, completely defeated, before pulling Shen Yu into a hug.
Then, firmly, he scolded him.
“Idiot!”
And before he could cry again, Ji Laili sighed, curving his lips into a small, helpless smile as he gently coaxed him.
“Are you trying to kill yourself?”
“The one I like… is you.“
