Chapter 10
After taking a shower, I feel refreshed and every part of my body feels good.
Seeing her open the bathroom door, Lu’s mother, who was waiting outside, finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She wanted to knock on the door several times to ask about the situation, but when she thought that Lu Anning would not be able to answer, she gave up.
“Go sit in the house, mom will help you dry your hair.”
This time Lu Anning did not refuse. If she refused everything, Lu’s mother might become suspicious.
“Our Lu Anning’s hair has grown longer again, almost reaching her waist.”
“It’s so hot now, do you want mom to help you cut it a little?”
She nodded.
The original owner had a lot of hair, which was black and long, and it took a lot of shampoo to wash it.
She didn’t know how much shampoo cost in that era, but considering that a bar of soap cost 36 cents, shampoo would probably cost around one dollar.
Until she has the ability to make money, it is better for her to be frugal.
With her consent, Lu’s mother cut her hair to chest level.
Maybe because she had cut the original owner’s hair many times before, Lu’s mother had a pretty good skill. She trimmed her hair very smoothly, as if it had been measured with a ruler.
“It’s really beautiful.”
“How can our daughter not be pretty?”
“If you hadn’t held me back, my daughter would be much prettier.”
Mother Lu glanced at Father Lu in reproach.
“Without me, there would be no peace and tranquility, and you would not have these two wonderful children.”
“That’s all you can contribute.”
Lu Anning sat on a chair, watching with amusement the couple, whose combined age was almost ninety, bickering with each other.
The conversation between the two of them seemed to bring her back to her modern home. Her parents used to argue with each other like this, and her mother was always the winner.
She always thought that she was good at speaking and could win the final victory in the quarrel, but she didn’t know that in most cases it was her father who gave in to her and made her happy.
“Lu Anning, there is something Dad wants to discuss with you.”
“What’s going on? Why are you so serious all of a sudden?”
Unlike Lu’s mother who was nervous, Lu Anning gestured for him to wait a moment. She went back to her room, took out the notebook and pen she used for communication, and signaled Lu’s father that he could start talking.
“Dad discussed it with Jingxing and decided to help you find a job in the garment factory in town after you get better.”
“You let Lu Anning go to work?”
“Didn’t we just agree last night to give Lu Anning fifty dollars pocket money every month? Why did you suddenly change your mind and ask her to work? I don’t agree!”
Mother Lu was a little angry about Father Lu’s decision.
It’s not like he doesn’t know Lu Anning’s situation. She is simply unable to communicate with outsiders. In the past, her classmates at school laughed at her and called her a little mute, making up all kinds of ugly words to insult her. She couldn’t stand it and had been hiding at home.
Now she is asked to go to work. She can say that she has never stayed outside alone for more than an hour. How can she work?
Will everyone treat Special Ning in a friendly manner?
How scared would she be?
She is scared, who will protect her?
All kinds of questions suddenly flooded her mind, and Lu’s mother didn’t even dare to think about what unpredictable situations would happen after she let her go to work.
“Okay, I’m willing to work!”
This is such unexpectedly good news!
Before the national environment is relaxed, the most important thing she should do is to live well.
She was originally worried about what to do if she had no money. If a ready-made job was handed to her, no matter what it was, it would be a timely help to her.
“Lu Anning, don’t listen to your father. Mom will send you money on time every month. You don’t have to worry about not having money to spend.”
“If the money is gone, you can write us a letter, send us a telegram, or ask Jingxing to call us. Our family doesn’t need that salary. You can read if you want to, and sleep if you want to. As long as you are well, Mom will be happy.”
“Mom, I want to try to work.”
“But…”
Mother Lu wanted to continue speaking but was interrupted by Lu Anning, who quickly wrote down what he wanted to tell her in a notebook.
“Mom, I know you are doing this for my own good, but I also want to go out and see the outside world. I also want to try to interact with others. I also want to learn to live like a normal person.”
“Nonsense, you are a normal person, no different from others. In my heart, you are the best and smartest child, much smarter than your father and brother.”
Lu Anning gave her a faint smile and continued writing.
“I have been thinking a lot over the past month. When other children were my age, they could already earn money to support their families, but I have been hiding in the protective circle created by my family and living like a turtle.”
“I know you’re worried that I’ll get hurt out there, but I want to work hard to get out of this. I’ll muster up the courage to not be afraid.”
“Grandpa, grandma, dad, and mom always try to give me the best things. My brother and sister-in-law always put me first in everything. Even three-year-old Ziyu follows your example and gives me the delicious and fun things. But I am obviously his elder, more than ten years older than him.”
“I know you don’t care how much money I can make, and my family doesn’t need the money I make, but I also hope to use the money I make to buy you a small gift on your parents’ birthdays.”
“Mom, I will work hard to grow up and live a good life. Please don’t worry about me anymore.”
Except for the last sentence which was said by Lu Anning, the rest of the words were basically the inner thoughts of the original owner spoken to his parents on behalf of her after she obtained the original owner’s memory.
The original owner was actually a very smart person who was good at reading people’s expressions, but she was also more sensitive and fragile.
She knows everything and understands everything, but she doesn’t like to say it out loud. She likes to keep all her thoughts and ideas hidden in her heart.
She once tried to come out, but fear made her stay in her shell. In addition, her family was worried about her and afraid that she would be bullied outside. She didn’t want to see her family’s worried expressions, so she chose to stay where she was.
Only when she stays at home well can they do their own things with peace of mind.
Her family’s overprotection of her was also a major reason why she became what she was before.
Her own reasons, coupled with her family’s reasons, intertwined together, caused her inner desire, entanglement, fear… to constantly churn, making her even more confused about what to do.
However, she is Lu Anning, not the original owner.
Lu Anning is a person who likes to show herself. She is good at expressing love to her family. She is completely different from the original owner.
She didn’t like to bear all the emotions by herself, it would make her feel depressed.
People have a mouth, and besides eating, it is also used to talk.
Since she can’t speak now, she can write. There is always a way of expression that suits her.
