Arranged Marriage in the 1970s: A Couple’s Sweet Story Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Bai Jinfeng was closest to Ning Jia and hurriedly supported her: “She fainted!”

“Ah?” Old Mrs. Xu was surprised. “She must be pretending. My son didn’t even touch her!”

“She’s not pretending, no!” Bai Jinfeng supported Ning Jia vigorously, “Her whole body feels weak and heavy, and her hands are cold!”

“Fainted? Aunt Xu, why does your daughter-in-law faint just like that?”

“Yeah, haven’t you heard that she has this problem?” Everyone kept asking questions.

An Ye stamped her feet and said angrily, “She was hungry! What else could it be? If you were as thin as her, you would faint after skipping two meals! You all can bear witness, she fainted from hunger, and my Li Xu didn’t even touch her.”

“Got hungry for two meals?” Aunt Niu’s eyes almost popped out. “Stop talking nonsense. You were clearly cooking in the morning. I saw smoke coming out of your chimney!”

“I cooked, and gave all the eggs to Da Huang.” An Ye glanced at the old lady and couldn’t help complaining again, “Are you getting senile? You save two eggs at home, but you either feed them to the dog or secretly give them away! You don’t give them to your family, do you?”

After she finished speaking, she glanced at Lin Xiaoxi who was hiding behind Li Chuan and said, “Why are you so radiant? It turns out that the old lady secretly gave all our eggs to you! Tell me, what kind of magic potion did you feed my old lady?”

“I, I didn’t…” Lin Xiaoxi didn’t expect that the gun was pointed directly at her, “Just…just gave it to me once.”

She was caught by Ning Jia first, so anything she said now would be a pale excuse.

The evidence is right in front of us.

An Ye put her hands on her hips and said, “Once is a hundred times, so stop quibbling.”

“Xiao Ye.” Li Xu saw that his wife was so powerful, and hurriedly pulled her, “Don’t you hate Ning Jia? Why are you speaking for her now? Besides, this matter has nothing to do with Lin Xiaoxi, don’t lose your temper at her.”

An Ye turned around and stared at Li Xu: “I didn’t see you so excited even though I didn’t eat breakfast this morning. Why are you so excited when I mention Lin Zhiqing?”

Li Xu hesitated: “I’m not afraid…I’m afraid that you will hurt the relationship?”

Aunt Niu opened her mouth and said, “Before you married in, Li Xu had been pursuing Lin Xiaoxi for half a year. Look, your eyebrows and eyes are somewhat similar to Lin Xiaoxi’s!”

“Aunt Niu, please don’t talk nonsense. It will affect the stability and unity of my family!” Li Xu looked at his wife fearfully.

The original text has always mentioned that she is the substitute for Bai Yueguang in Li Xu’s mind, but it did not say who Bai Yueguang is.

Now she understood!

She is actually Lin Xiaoxi’s stand-in! Damn it! So angry!

“Wife, are you angry?” Li Xu asked in a low voice.

An Ye gritted his teeth and squeezed out a sentence from his throat: “I’ll settle the score with you when I get back.”

“She’s fainted. Go get some people and take her to the village doctor.” The team leader came out to direct the maintenance of order.

“Will you give me work points?” someone asked.

“Calculate!”

“I’ll go!” An Ye said immediately.

“What are you doing?” Li Xu grabbed her, “You two don’t get along, and now you’re fighting!”

“I’m afraid she’ll pretend to be sick and be lazy, so I have to supervise her! Once she wakes up, she has to come to work and don’t expect others to support her!”

“Okay, okay, you go!” The captain agreed immediately, “You are the most suitable person to go!”

The team leader lent her the team’s ox cart and asked her to take Ning Jia to see the village doctor.

On the way, An Ye patted Ning Jia’s arm gently: “Okay, stop pretending, wake up.”

Ning Jia slowly opened his eyes: “Where am I? What happened to me?”

An Ye: “Ah? You just fainted, I thought you were pretending!”

Ning Jia grabbed the armrest of the car and sat up, rubbing his dizzy head: “I did want to pretend, but before I could pretend, my eyes went dark and I knew nothing. Ye Ye, I might really be dizzy.”

“You’re not really starving, are you?” An Ye felt more and more that it was possible. “Look at your malnourished body. Maybe you fainted from hunger. Come on, come on. Since we’re already out, let’s go see a doctor.”

Ning Jia nodded.

She saw Uncle Liu turning his head and greeting him with a smile.

“Are you awake?” Uncle Liu waved his hand at her. “Hurry up and lie down and rest for a while. We’ll be there soon.”

“Thank you, Uncle Liu.”

After Ning Jia thanked him, he asked An Ye in a low voice: “Did the master hear what we just said?”

“Uncle Liu is deaf, have you forgotten?”

Ning Jia then remembered that this was indeed the case.

It turns out that when two people travel through a book, they remember it more clearly than when only one person does.

When they arrived at the destination, Uncle Liu dropped the two people off and drove away.

An Ye accompanied Ning Jia to see a doctor, and sure enough, there was a reason why she fainted.

The body is too thin and suffering from anemia and malnutrition.

I fainted on the first day after I came here. How should I live the rest of my life?

If she doesn’t wait for a divorce, she’ll starve to death.

“Ye Ye, we have to find a way to get food and money.”

An Ye agreed with both hands. She pinched Ning Jia’s skinny face and said, “We have to make your flesh grow stronger no matter what! As long as we work together, there is nothing we can’t do.”

Ning Jia returned home and found that Li Yao’s bedding had been neatly folded on the head of the kang, but he was not at home.

She was woken up this morning by the urge to pee and had no time to clean up the messy room. Now that she had some free time, she cleaned the room first, changed the bed sheets, and then lay down to rest for a while.

She didn’t know how long it had been, but she vaguely heard some chatter in the yard, as if the third and fourth sons’ families had returned with their children.

Ning Jia’s eyelids felt heavy and he didn’t want to move, so he turned over and fell asleep.

When she woke up again, she heard Old Mrs. Xu yelling loudly in the yard.

“Sixth Brother, go back home and take good care of your wife. I’ve lost all my face today! Everyone in the village thinks I’m abusing my daughter-in-law and not letting her eat! Oh my God, ask your wife if she ate less today.”

“Sixth brother, Xiaoxi died unjustly! What did my sister-in-law’s fainting have to do with her? Now everyone thinks that she ate my sister-in-law’s food, and the way they look at her has changed!”

As soon as Li Yao came back, he heard everyone blaming Ning Jia, and his brows frowned involuntarily: “I know.”

“Go ahead, go ahead!” Old Mrs. Xu grumbled in dissatisfaction, “I worked for half a day and only earned three points. I wasted a day’s meal!”

Li Yao had already raised his legs and was about to go back to the house, but when he heard the old lady’s words, he turned around and said, “If you had let her eat enough, this wouldn’t have happened today!”

“I…” Mrs. Xu was choked by her son’s words. After a long while, she came to her senses and cursed in a low voice, “You really forget your mother after getting a wife!”

Li Yao entered the room and saw that it was dark and the lights were off.

He groped his way to the table and lit the kerosene lamp.

Their place is a remote and poor place with no electric lights yet, so they can only use kerosene lamps or candles to light up at night.

The room lit up, and his eyes lit up too.

Today the house was completely clean, unlike the mess it was in the past.

This is not like Ning Jia’s style.

Two months after getting married, Ning Jia never cleaned the room, unless he couldn’t stand it anymore and did it himself.

After a busy day, Li Yao felt much better when he returned to the clean and comfortable room.

He saw Ning Jia lying motionless on the kang, so he went straight to her and sat down.

Ning Jia heard him coming and sat up. Seeing him looking at her coldly, she raised her eyebrows and asked with a stern face, “Are you here to teach me a lesson?”

“No.” Li Yao shook his head, looked at her thin face, hesitated and asked, “I heard that you fainted today? What did the doctor say?”

It turns out that you care about her!

Ning Jia’s expression softened instantly when he heard this: “Malnutrition, anemia.”

Li Yao didn’t say anything. He reached into his pocket and took out a paper bag and handed it to her. “You keep this. From today on, you will be in charge of it.”
