Chapter 123: Like He’s Possessed
“You’re the one who’s sick! Get lost!” Tang Haofei could clearly hear the implication in his words. Every time he thought of Qiu Yingwen, he felt a surge of anger, and he found Song Sikai particularly annoying.
“Are all the women in the world dead? Why did you go all the way to Yuncheng to find someone? You even went after Qiu Yingwen’s sister. Are you crazy?!”
He was cursing his mother and his wife, and Song Sikai couldn’t take it anymore. He had been putting up with him because of what Du Ximei had done to him, but now he couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Who’s the crazy one? If you still care about her, just say it. You’re always acting shady and creepy, hiding things. Who else would you hit but you? Did we put a green hat on you? You keep talking about getting revenge, but you never say anything to her face. You’re always the one who gets screwed over. You come back and take it out on your brothers like a mad dog! I’ve been putting up with you for a long time!”
“You’re insane! I told you Rongrong looks just like you! How many times do I have to say it? Your dead eyes are exactly like hers. Are you blind? You’re always going on about wild men, like you’re possessed. With your deadbeat looks, how could you not have touched her back then? Can’t you think for yourself? Did a dog eat your brain?!”
“My mother was right. Hanging around with someone like you makes your brain degenerate!”
“You’re the one who went to Yuncheng to find my wife. Thanks for that! I wonder why you were so reluctant to let me go with that batch of goods. It turns out you were heartbroken!”
Song Sikai pointed at him and yelled, “I’d rather hold my shit and pee than put up with you anymore. Ever since Qiu Yingwen appeared, you’ve been acting crazy.”
Tang Haofei was stunned.
He hadn’t used his real identity when he went to the countryside. That year, he was hanging out with Jiang Han and Xu Guangliang, and they got into a fight in the street and ended up in the police station. When his father found out, he immediately sent him to the countryside for labor reform, without giving him a penny, leaving him to fend for himself.
He had taken the place of his mother’s sister’s nephew, whose name was Lu Juntao. He heard that the guy had some kind of illness and wasn’t in good health. He couldn’t handle the hard labor in the countryside. But the street office had assigned the quota to his family, and they thought of Tang Haofei’s mother’s sister, hoping she could help. Coincidentally, Tang’s father wanted to get Tang Haofei away from him.
So he went to the countryside under the name Lu Juntao, enduring hardship and resentment.
He was at the most rebellious and unruly age at that time. He didn’t settle down in the countryside either. He never did any real work, and he was always being criticized.
The Tang family was really heartless during those two years, not paying any attention to him. Before they sent him away, they took all his valuables, and they didn’t tell anyone where he had gone. Even Jiang Han and his other brothers didn’t know where he was for a while!
He met Qiu Yingwen the following year.
Actually, he had seen her many times before. She was quite eye-catching, easy to spot in a crowd, like a vixen.
Others said the same thing about her, calling her a vixen born from her dead mother. They said that when she got married, she wouldn’t be a good wife.
They said that Qiu Yingwen’s deceased mother was also a beautiful woman. She died when Qiu Yingwen was ten years old, allegedly killed by her father in a fit of rage. The reason was unclear, but most people speculated that Qiu Yingwen’s mother had been having an affair. The rumors spread like wildfire.
He was wandering the streets, listening to the gossiping old women talk about her, their malicious words directed at a little girl.
One evening, he was waiting for Jiang Han’s reply at the post office, from day till night. In the end, he received a letter mocking him. It didn’t even have a single steel ball in it. The letter only said that he had lost all the money and that he had nothing left. He was so angry he wanted to kill someone.
The cold wind made him feel miserable.
Qiu Yingwen… treated him like a beggar and gave him a piece of cake.
Because of that cake, he beat up a hooligan who was calling her names in the street.
She saw it and thought he was a good guy.
He did start out by deceiving her, but he only wanted to cheat her out of money! He would give her ten times the amount once Jiang Han paid him back!
But he didn’t know when it started, he lost control. He had half-jokingly told her that he wasn’t a good person, but she didn’t believe him. She was even nicer to him, her bright, beautiful eyes filled with him. He was moved.
He gradually learned to be good to her too. He couldn’t stand hearing anyone say a bad word about her, and he couldn’t bear to see her talk or smile with anyone but him.
He couldn’t deny that he really liked her back then. He had never liked a girl like this before. She was the first.
His possessiveness towards her grew stronger. He wanted not only her heart but also her body.
When she became closer to her childhood sweetheart and was clearly hiding something from him, he couldn’t control his jealousy and took her by force.
She didn’t resist, only asking him in a trembling voice if he would be good to her for the rest of his life.
He promised sincerely.
He said he would.
They were more intimate after they confessed their feelings to each other. He also wanted to tell her his true identity, but he was afraid she would be angry, so he hesitated.
During that short period of hesitation, they had a fight, again because of her damned childhood sweetheart. She always defended him and didn’t like him saying anything bad about him!
Later, his father had an accident, getting hit by a car and falling into a coma. He held back his anger and went to see her before going home. But he saw her with her childhood sweetheart again!
His anger was unbearable. He went straight back to the Tang family and left her for two months. When he went back, he learned that she had eloped with her childhood sweetheart! He searched all over Ancheng, going back and forth several times in the following six months, but she never went back. The parents of her childhood sweetheart cursed Qiu Yingwen for seducing their son and encouraging him to break off his engagement and elope. The Qiu family also cursed Qiu Yingwen for being shameless.
Everyone said the same thing. He didn’t want to believe it, but he had completely lost track of her. He even inquired about Lu Juntao’s side, but there was nothing…
He recalled how she had defended her wild man and confronted him several times. Finally, he accepted the fact that she had put a green hat on him!
He was furious and his self-esteem was shattered. He had always had a smooth sailing life. Why, why did she do this to him?
He could have as many as he wanted! Which one wasn’t more obedient and docile than her? Which one wasn’t more well-behaved and sensible than her?
Even if he wanted to get married and take a wife, he wouldn’t choose someone like her!
But his mother was possessed by a ghost, he only had a fleeting interest in those vixen-like women, but after a few days, he would be incredibly disgusted and couldn’t even bear to look at them! So he changed one after another, trying to find one that he both liked and could stand to be with.
More than four years had passed, he almost forgot about Qiu Yingwen, that dead woman, who knew she would come running to him! Just to remind him of the green hat she put on his head!
Thinking about how he poured his heart and soul into her only to be betrayed, he wanted to strangle her to death! Even now, he still resented her deeply.
