Chapter 137: Food Chewed and Ready to Eat

“I didn’t run away last time either.” Hu Yao mumbled.

She was pregnant, where could she run to? Her current life was peaceful and fulfilling. He was truly good to her, why would she seek trouble by leaving and facing the unknown?

Unless something happened that forced her to leave…

“I won’t run away.”

She hugged his arm, softly repeating herself, her gaze soft and determined.

Jiang Han’s eyes softened, he let out a light hum and pulled her head into his embrace.

“It’s best if you don’t have those messy thoughts! If you want anything, tell me, and I’ll get it for you, understand?”

His tone softened, his mood improving.

Hu Yao nestled in his embrace, his magnetic voice falling on her ears, stirring strange emotions in her heart.

He had already given her so much: a stable life, a luxurious lifestyle, and a sweet and adorable Jiang Xiaochao.

How many people envied this? It was something she had yearned for before.

As the gossiping busybodies outside said, with his current status, he could have any woman he wanted.

But every time he knew she was going to “run away”, he would become particularly agitated and nervous. He was truly afraid of her leaving. After scolding her, he would always buy her more things.

He said his reputation was bad, that the things he had done in the past were still circulating in people’s mouths, but he was truly good to her.

Just for not despising her and taking care of her for those four years, she was already grateful to him. As she had told him at the beginning, even if it was just to repay him, he wanted her to be his wife for a day, she wouldn’t leave.

Now, it seemed like there was something different…

Hu Yao buried her face in his warm and broad embrace, her eyes lowered.

“Mhm.” She softly responded.

She slept soundly through the night, and the next morning, she vaguely heard the usual bickering between the father and son outside the room.

When she went out after tidying up, the commotion had subsided. Jiang Han was preparing food in the kitchen, while Jiang Xiaochao was nestled on the sofa, holding a cup and drinking milk, his little face still puffed up.

“Mommy, Daddy scolded me!” He pouted and complained, tilting his little head to look at her, a stray hair sticking up on his head, his eyes watery.

This little appearance was too cute. Hu Yao smiled and stroked his little hair: “What did he scold you for?”

“He said I’m like a stupid dog!” Jiang Xiaochao snorted: “I’m clearly an idiot!”

Hu Yao paused, what was the difference?

She had to change the subject: “Why did Daddy scold you?”

“I don’t know! He always scolds me when he’s unhappy, it’s annoying.” Jiang Xiaochao blinked his eyes softly.

“I’m not happy with you!” Jiang Han strode over and gave him another slap.

This little rascal had a problem with his cup. Early in the morning, he used his cup to play with those two silly dogs. He didn’t hit him, he just scolded him. He should have covered his mouth and snickered! He even dared to complain to Hu Yao!

“Daddy, I think you’re not doing well!” Jiang Xiaochao pouted.

“Get lost!”

“Drink your milk! Immediately!”

Jiang Xiaochao wrinkled his little face and shook his head: “I don’t want Daddy’s cup for my milk, I want my own cup.”

He lowered his little head and looked at the cup filled with milk in his hand, refusing.

“From now on, whatever cup you use to play with that broken mud, you use that to drink!” Jiang Han was annoyed by the sight of him. He knew he disliked the cup that had been used to play with mud, how dare he play with it and then give it back to his father to use!

The house was noisy and chaotic all morning. Hu Yao comforted one and then the other, she was quite busy.

Breakfast was yam porridge. Qiu Yingwen had bought a lot of yam a few days ago and shared some with her. It was very fragrant and glutinous.

Jiang Han had to go to the neighboring town to take care of business as usual. He gave the mother and son a few things to do and went out leisurely.

After Hu Yao’s leg cramped last time, Jiang Han didn’t let her go to the tea plantation anymore. He had someone else do the accounting, and they would come to her directly for the money.

Without this job, Hu Yao was quite bored, but she had Du Ximei to keep her company.

Du Ximei was pregnant, only a month or so, she shouldn’t be running around. Qiu Yingwen had told her yesterday.

But she still came bouncing over to play with Hu Yao today, saying she wanted to eat sour fish with Hu Yao at noon.

As soon as she said it, Hu Yao suddenly wanted to eat it too. She took the money, locked the door, and the two of them took Jiang Xiaochao to town.

Now that Hu Yao’s belly was big, she walked slowly and carefully. Jiang Han would sometimes say she was like a turtle, but he would always wait for her and slow down his pace to match hers, holding her arm.

Ever since he washed her clothes in the creek in the village, the gossiping aunties had all sorts of things to say about him. As they talked, it became more and more outrageous, even saying that Hu Yao was a fox spirit reincarnated, who had bewitched Jiang Han like this.

Many people seemed to be very uncomfortable with Jiang Han indulging her like this. Even though she and Jiang Han had nothing to do with them, it was as if she should be the one who should be pampering Jiang Han, not Jiang Han who bought her and gave her money pampering her.

On the way to town, Hu Yao and Du Ximei passed by and heard a few more gossiping remarks about her.

She frowned, and when she heard some more outrageous remarks, she felt slightly embarrassed.

Du Ximei let go of her arm and ran to the group of aunties, her voice chirpy and curious: “Really? Really? Did you all see it with your own eyes?”

“Of course!” The aunties were engrossed in their conversation and quickly agreed.

When they turned around and saw it was Du Ximei, they were startled and quickly scattered and left.

Du Ximei was even more untouchable! Not to mention her fighting skills, her husband had even gone blind for her. You couldn’t say a word against her. He could directly come to your door for saying a few gossiping remarks about Du Ximei, he was very petty!

She couldn’t even have a child, so what was wrong with saying it!

Seeing them run so fast, Du Ximei curled her lips and walked back to Hu Yao’s side, bored.

“Why are you running so fast? I wasn’t going to do anything!”

“By the way, sister, did Han really chew up the food and feed it to you?” She was genuinely curious.

“Ew, how gross, if Song Sikai did that, I’d beat him up.” She imagined it and frowned.

Hu Yao: “…”

“No, my dad doesn’t do that.” Jiang Xiaochao mumbled, chewing on a biscuit. “Mom doesn’t eat what Dad bites, Dad eats what Mom eats.”

Whatever Hu Yao left behind, Jiang Han always finished it.

Clearly, Jiang Xiaochao understood it differently than what they meant.

Hu Yao felt embarrassed. It seemed like her and Jiang Han’s business always attracted attention. No matter big or small, even if she rarely went out and wandered around the village, people still talked about it.

Should she have Jiang Han scare them next time, like Song Sikai? Hu Yao thought.

But he was so busy, these trivial matters didn’t seem worth worrying about. The gossiping villagers were just passing the time, and they wouldn’t say a word to their faces.
