Chapter 139: I Won’t Do It Again Next Time
Du Ximei’s face darkened.
She narrowed her eyes, taking a closer look and confirming that the man was indeed Song Sikai, before striding towards him with a sullen expression.
As she approached, she could hear the woman’s sweet voice calling out “Brother, Brother” to Song Sikai, her hand clutching his arm.
“Brother!?” Du Ximei said coldly.
Song Sikai was annoyed by the woman’s clinging, feeling extremely frustrated. Since yesterday, this woman had been following him everywhere, as if she couldn’t understand his words.
Now she was even touching him in public, grabbing his arm. He was a married man, and if people saw this, they would gossip to Du Ximei, and he wouldn’t be able to clear his name even if he jumped into the Yellow River!
Just as he was about to shake the woman off and give her another stern warning, a familiar, gloomy voice came from behind him.
Song Sikai turned his head sluggishly, and upon seeing that it was indeed Du Ximei, he nearly jumped out of his skin.
He hurriedly pushed the woman clinging to his arm away, frantically explaining, “It’s not like that, Ximei, I…”
“Not like what?!” Du Ximei’s face was taut. Thinking about how he hadn’t come home last night and had been fooling around with a woman, and now she had caught him red-handed!
She was furious, unable to give him a chance to explain. She raised her hand and slapped him, her eyes fierce yet tinged with grievance.
She had been eagerly waiting for him to come home, carrying the baby in her belly, wanting to tell him and give him a surprise.
Now he had given her a surprise instead!
He was indeed a brother to Tang Haofei, both of them were the same! She would beat him to death!
She was so angry that she lost control of her strength, and the slap stunned Song Sikai, leaving his face numb.
She had actually hit him! And with so much force! Song Sikai felt wronged too.
“You woman are sick! Why are you hitting people?!”
Before Song Sikai could speak, the woman who had been clinging to him screamed, glaring at Du Ximei with a look of both concern and sympathy for Song Sikai.
“Oh my god, Brother Kai, how could there be such a savage woman? Don’t be polite to her, you must teach her a lesson!” she cried out, glaring at Du Ximei before turning back to Song Sikai with concern, wanting to touch his injured face.
“This woman is crazy! She’s gone mad! Brother Kai, are you alright?”
Du Ximei looked at them, tossing the food she was carrying aside, slowly clenching her fists.
She would see who would teach whom a lesson!
Before the woman’s hand could touch him, Song Sikai kicked her away with extreme annoyance, “My wife hitting me is none of your business! Shut your stinking mouth! You’re the one who’s crazy!”
If it weren’t for this woman being crazy, would he have been slapped by Du Ximei?!
“Wife, I have nothing to do with her!” Song Sikai quickly grabbed her clenched fist, holding it in his palm, explaining quickly before Du Ximei could strike again, “She’s Tang Haofei’s woman, what does it have to do with me? Who knows why she’s so crazy and won’t leave me alone!”
Du Ximei paused, shifting her gaze to the woman who was lying on the ground several meters away, yelling and screaming, having been kicked away by him without any tenderness, and she was half-believing, her eyes filled with suspicion.
“How do I know if you’re telling the truth! You dare to stay out all night! Who knows what you’re doing behind my back! Why didn’t you come home last night? Are you lying to me now?” Du Ximei questioned.
“I went to the neighboring town with Brother Han yesterday.” Song Sikai was aggrieved.
“Jiang Han went home last night! Why didn’t you come back?” Du Ximei’s face grew colder.
Song Sikai felt even more wronged, “I told you I wouldn’t be back yesterday, didn’t I? Brother Han went back, so I couldn’t come back, I had to stay and watch over the goods, you weren’t listening to me.”
“Where would I have the time to find a woman? Besides, I don’t have a single penny on me, I’m even eating off of Brother Han.”
“If you don’t believe me, you can go ask Tang Haofei, you can also go ask Brother Han, I really have nothing to do with this woman!” He looked like an innocent man who had been wronged.
“…” Du Ximei paused, thinking back. Did he vaguely mention something about having a lot of things to do, possibly not coming home, yesterday?
Meeting his eyes, which were filled with grievance that seemed to be dripping out, and seeing his reddened face, Du Ximei looked away slightly, believing him for the most part, her momentum waning. She mumbled, “Who told you to talk so much, I can’t remember everything! You should tell me the important things from now on!”
She became more and more self-righteous as she spoke.
After all, she had slapped him, and the slap seemed to have torn apart the fragile image she had maintained. She softened her tone slightly, awkwardly looking at him, “Does it hurt? Let me see.”
She reached out and touched his face. Seeing the slight redness, she felt a little regret and guilt.
Song Sikai had been feeling wronged to death, but seeing her look of concern and regret, his grievance dissipated. She had hit him, wasn’t it because she was jealous and worried that he was with another woman?
This was also his fault, why did he let Tang Haofei, that woman, cling to him and be seen by her? She wouldn’t be angry if she didn’t care about him!
“I definitely won’t do it again next time, wife!” He promised repeatedly, from now on, no woman other than her would be able to touch him!
“Does your hand hurt from hitting me? Let me see.” He grabbed her hand and looked at it carefully.
Knowing that the food she had thrown on the ground was what she had prepared to bring home for him, he happily picked it up, feeling that it was truly his fault. She was right, he had talked so much yesterday that it was normal for her not to remember everything, wasn’t she still thinking about him, just like he was thinking about her?
“Why should they eat my food?” Song Sikai was unhappy.
Du Ximei hesitated…
“……These are what Chaochao left over.”
“Did you eat them too?”
“I did, they were very tasty.” The food she packed for him was the steamed fish that Jiang Xiaochao had left over, along with a few ribs. She had tasted it, and it was indeed delicious. Hu Yao hadn’t touched these two dishes, so she brought them back. There was nothing wrong with eating what a child had eaten…it’s better to not waste food.
“Then I’ll just eat this.” Song Sikai was not picky. When Jiang Xiaochao was younger, he liked to randomly stuff things he had nibbled on into people’s mouths. As his uncle, Song Sikai had eaten his fair share of those.
Later, as he grew older, he became stingy and remembered things. He would only stuff things into his father’s mouth, and if he couldn’t find him, he would put the food in his own little pocket and wait until he found Jiang Han before giving it to him.
