Chapter 149: It’s Not Cold Like This

She whispered softly in his arms, her words gentle.

He felt his heart soften as he listened, sensing that her temperature had returned to normal. Relieved, he held her tighter and slowly drifted off to sleep.

He hadn’t slept well for days. She had been burning with fever, almost cooked through, constantly muttering and groaning. He couldn’t sleep even if he wanted to.

This morning, she was almost delirious, lying there and saying unlucky things to him.

It had struck a nerve. He had been living with her and their child for years, a constant chaos. He had shortened his life by a few years for them. Now, after she had recovered, she was talking about wanting to die? What a great deal! He wasn’t even thinking about dying yet!

When he was young, his parents had given him a long-life lock, hanging on a red string.

He had worn it from birth until he was eight or nine. After his parents passed away, he was alone and couldn’t even afford food. He sold the lock, which was supposed to protect him, leaving only the red string.

What Jiang Han told Hu Yao was true. He had indeed put the string on a dog. After his parents died, the only things they left him besides the old house were the dog.

Jiang Han had raised the dog for over ten years. It had been close to death several times, and he would wrap the red string around its leg.

After the dog died, he kept its bed and the red string. He still had them today.

As for the long-life lock his parents gave him, he bought it back after he made some money, going through many hands. He gave it to Jiang Fuchao after he was born.

But Hu Yao also wanted it. Back then, Jiang Fuchao was just a baby, and they weren’t very close yet. She was still angry that he gave it to Jiang Fuchao and not her.

She was delusional, truly acting like a child. If Jiang Fuchao had something, she had to have it too, not a single piece missing. If she didn’t get her way, she would throw a tantrum.

He really couldn’t find peace back then.

His reputation was at its worst, and his temper was not good either. But she, with her broken mind, was strangely fearless. He would scold her, and she would retort with ten sentences for every one of his, her voice full of indignation. If things got heated, she would even fight him, her courage boundless! At first, she really thought he was a human trafficker who had kidnapped her, constantly shouting that she wanted her father to beat him to death.

The next day, a light rain fell in the morning, creating a misty haze.

Listening to the rain, Hu Yao slowly woke up.

Her fever had completely subsided, and she felt light all over.

Jiang Han was no longer beside her. The blanket was still wrapped around her when she woke up.

She had felt cold all over when she was sick, but now she was starting to feel hot.

It was already summer, and the weather was hot. This rain had cooled things down a bit.

Jiang Han was right. She hadn’t showered in three days. Thinking about what he said last night, Hu Yao sniffed herself.

He had even wiped her down with alcohol when she was sick, and she smelled strongly of it. It wasn’t exactly pleasant.

How could he still hold her so tightly and sleep so soundly, even with her smelling like that?

Hu Yao frowned slightly. She was starting to find herself a bit repulsive. She got out of bed, found some clothes, and quickly washed up, changing into fresh clothes.

Jiang Han was making breakfast. He was making his signature scallion pancakes, and Hu Yao could smell the aroma as soon as she walked out. He had also cooked some porridge.

“Did you shower?” Jiang Han looked at her, noticing her damp hair. He frowned.

“You’re causing trouble again, aren’t you?” He stared at her.

“I didn’t shower.” Hu Yao refuted. She had only wiped herself down.

“You didn’t shower, my ass! You’re starting to stink!”

Hu Yao: “…”

“You want to freeze in the middle of summer and make me take care of you for days and nights, don’t you?” He was annoyed, unable to bear it.

His words were a bit sarcastic, and he was unhappy about her wiping herself down. Hu Yao pursed her lips, looking at his slightly dark face, she reached out and hugged him, burying her head in his chest. “It’s not cold like this.”

Her voice was soft and gentle, and Jiang Han was about to retort when her sudden action caught him off guard.

Was she really delirious, or did she have some after-effects? Otherwise, why was she suddenly acting so clingy and affectionate towards him?

“Are you sick again?” He pulled her away from his chest and looked at her face carefully.

Hu Yao was uncomfortable under his gaze. The moment she hugged him, she realized how embarrassed she was. She didn’t know why she suddenly hugged him and said such sticky words.

“No.” She choked out, lowering her voice.

Jiang Han squinted at her increasingly blushing cheeks, his eyes narrowed. He reached out and pinched her cheek, as if he had figured something out. His tone became teasing. “No need to be so mushy with me, right? You want a hug early in the morning, huh?”

“Didn’t you have enough hugs last night?”

He was even more shameless, speaking these words without any embarrassment.

Hu Yao’s face turned even redder. She regretted her actions. She didn’t say anything, just looked at him in shame.

“Then I won’t hug you anymore!” She raised her voice, deliberately saying, “You didn’t even shower, I won’t hug you.”

“Did your conscience get eaten by a dog, Hu Yao? Who made me not shower?” He snorted, his face darkening.

She said she didn’t mind yesterday!

“I’ll give you another chance. Quickly, put your arms around me and hug me!”

“I don’t want to.” Hu Yao didn’t want to give him another chance to tease her, so she refused.

Jiang Han didn’t care if she wanted to or not. Seeing that she really didn’t want to hug him, he narrowed his eyes and reached out to grab her, pulling her back into his arms.

“You’re getting bolder! You’re quite impressive, aren’t you? You’re asking for trouble again, aren’t you?” He wrapped his arm around her protruding belly, holding her tight in his arms, and snorted coldly.

Now, Hu Yao was completely unafraid of his threats. She angrily patted his arm. Seeing that she couldn’t break free, he bit her neck again, and she quickly started to step on his feet.

“Don’t keep biting me, it hurts.”

“So what if I bite you?

“You bite me back too!” He snorted, deliberately pulling down her collar and biting her again.

It didn’t hurt a bit. He didn’t even use any force, he didn’t even leave a mark, and he dared to say it hurt.

“I don’t want to bite you, you don’t even take a bath.” Hu Yao tried to push his head away.

Good, she said he didn’t take a bath again!

Jiang Han glared at her, this time biting her lip, his big hand holding her head so she couldn’t dodge, and he deliberately pried open her lips and teeth, kissing and biting her.

“I don’t take a bath and I still kiss you and sleep with you! Do you have a problem?” He said arrogantly.

“I don’t want to sleep with you!” Hu Yao wiped away the wet marks he had deliberately made, embarrassed and angry.

“You think you’re pretty smart, you’ve only given birth to two children, do you think you’ve paid off your debt? You still have to sleep with me a thousand or a hundred times to pay it off!”

Hu Yao clenched her fists, annoyed and punched him. He always said that, making her pay for the children.

He always said that Chaochao was going to make him angry to death, and if he had a few more, he would die a few years earlier. Even so, he still wanted her to give birth to ten or eight!
