Chapter 26: Hu Yao’s Bite

This wasn’t a good habit. Hu Yao noticed that even Jiang Xiaochao was starting to imitate his father’s habit of slamming doors.

After breakfast, Hu Yao washed the dishes and made Jiang Xiaochao a cup of milk powder. She gently told him not to imitate Jiang Han.

Jiang Xiaochao was still drinking milk. Jiang Han bought him milk powder every month. Lin Zhaodi  said that she didn’t have enough breast milk when she gave birth to Jiang Xiaochao, and she wasn’t willing to breastfeed him. Jiang Xiaochao had been drinking milk powder ever since, and he still hadn’t stopped, drinking a cup every morning and evening.

Hu Yao felt both guilty and heartbroken after learning this.

“Don’t imitate Daddy, what?” Jiang Xiaochao held the cup and took a big gulp of milk, leaving a circle of milk stains around his mouth.

Hu Yao carefully wiped his mouth, hesitant to speak. In the end, she decided not to say anything bad about Jiang Han. Although Jiang Han was quite fierce towards Jiang Xiaochao, he was still much better than ordinary families in many aspects. He also loved him very much, and overall, he was harsh but kind to him.

As usual, she washed clothes with Lin Zhaodi . Lin Zhaodi  knew that Jiang Xiaochao wanted to eat pumpkin cakes, so she immediately picked two of the largest pumpkins from the garden.

Since she realized that she could sell vegetables at the market, Lin Zhaodi  had been going almost every day. However, the vegetables she grew weren’t enough to sell regularly. Now, the vegetables in the garden were almost all picked. She had planted new ones, and these days she had been tending to the seedlings and the rice in the fields.

Jiang Han already knew about Li Zhuangzhi’s situation. Li Zhuangzhi had cried and angrily asked Liu Jie to find Jiang Han, hoping he would help him teach Lin Zhaodi  a lesson.

However, even though Jiang Han knew that Li Zhuangzhi’s tendons had been cut by Lin Zhaodi  and his mother had been tortured to the point of being half-dead, he remained indifferent, bluntly saying that it was their family matter and he wouldn’t interfere.

After Jiang Han said this, his other friends and associates understood his position and didn’t want to get involved in this mess either. It was clear that Lin Zhaodi  had been helping Jiang Han take care of his wife and children for the past few years, and Jiang Han was returning the favor.

Li Zhuangzhi had miscalculated. When Liu Jie came to him, he found an opportunity to prevent Liu Jie and the others from helping. He wanted to find a more ruthless person like Jiang Han to help him teach Lin Zhaodi  a lesson. Now, he had miscalculated.

He couldn’t help but resent even Jiang Han in his heart. They were supposed to be brothers, and he was the one who had been taking care of his wife and children for the past few years. Yet, Jiang Han didn’t show any brotherly love! Not only did he not bring Li Zhuangzhi along for any good things, but he wasn’t even willing to help him deal with Lin Zhaodi , a woman who was like a “slut” in his eyes!

Li Zhuangzhi’s eyes turned vicious, but he couldn’t do anything about it. Lin Zhaodi ‘s recent actions had made him afraid and intimidated. He wasn’t really a man of principle and integrity.

“Poisonous woman! Poisonous woman!” Li Pozi mumbled incoherently on the bed, constantly cursing Lin Zhaodi .

At this moment, Lin Zhaodi  was going to pick tea with Hu Yao.

She had wanted to do this job for a long time, but Li Zhen had always looked down on her. Li Zhen thought that she had been a fool to serve Hu Yao and Jiang Xiaochao so diligently in the past, and she always despised her, even more than other villagers.

“Sister Zhaodi doesn’t have to serve the sister-in-law anymore. Why don’t you stay at home and take care of your health and have children? It’s been seven or eight years, and there’s still no news. No wonder the aunt has something to say to you.” Li Zhen folded her arms and spoke sarcastically, not even trying to hide her words in front of Hu Yao.

Speaking of which, Li Zhen and Li Pozi could still talk to each other. When Li Zhen first married Liu Jie, because she was from the city, Li Pozi had flattered her with the fact that they shared the same surname, trying to curry favor with her. Later, she realized that she couldn’t get anything good from Li Zhen, so she gave up.

“Also, I heard from Brother Jie that you were so vicious to the aunt and Brother Zhuangzhi. It was your fault in the first place. Who told you to be unable to have children? In my opinion, the aunt and the others are good people to let you do whatever you want. You should go back and apologize to them. This tea picking job doesn’t need someone like you…”

“Didn’t you also marry Liu Jie for three years without having children?” Hu Yao interrupted her, calmly saying, “I want Sister Zhaodi to help pick tea. We’ll count her wages together, two yuan and two cents a day.”

Li Zhen was first choked by her first sentence, and then she was even angrier after hearing her next words. She was very displeased: “I said! She’s not needed! I feel disgusted even if she touches the tea leaves!”

She didn’t want to say anything more to her, so she strode away. As she passed by, she angrily bumped into Hu Yao’s shoulder.

Hu Yao winced in pain. She had bumped her sore shoulder.

She pursed her lips, paused for a moment, and called out to the figure walking towards them.

“Jiang Han.”

“Can you let Sister Zhaodi pick tea leaves too? Pay her wages.”

Jiang Han glanced at her. There were several other people with him, who had come to check on the tea plantation.

He didn’t even think about this trivial matter: “Whatever.”

Hu Yao smiled and looked at Li Zhen, who hadn’t walked far and whose face had turned ugly: “Sister Zhaodi and I are going to the tea field on the west side. Don’t forget to count our wages too!”

After saying that, she took Lin Zhaodi ‘s arm and left.

Li Zhen pulled a face, glared fiercely at their backs, cursed a few words, and went to Jiang Han, but her face changed to a different one.

She was about to tell Jiang Han that Lin Zhaodi  couldn’t pick tea, but when she saw the cut on Jiang Han’s mouth, she stopped talking and started to care about him, her voice exaggerated: “Oh my god, Brother Han, how did you get hurt?”

Jiang Han said a few words to the people around him before looking at her.

“What’s it to you?”

“Don’t let me see you bump into her again!” This sentence was filled with obvious displeasure: “Did Liu Jie teach you to treat your sister-in-law like this?”

Li Zhen’s face became ugly again. Jiang Han had actually seen what happened just now. It seemed that Jiang Han cared about Hu Yao more than she thought.

But maybe it was because Hu Yao was his face in the outside world!

Thinking about it this way, Li Zhen felt a little calmer.

Jiang Han didn’t want to say anything more to her. He left with his people after dropping a warning.

“I’ve been wanting to ask for a long time, boss, how did you get the cut on your mouth?”

The carefree question came again. Looking at the speaker, it was the small leader who had come to collect interest from the Hu family.

“Why are you gossiping like a woman all day?” Jiang Han glanced at him, speaking frankly: “Hu Yao bit me.”

Song Sikai’s eyes widened, and the straw he was chewing fell out of his mouth: “What? That woman dares to bite you? She’s gotten bold! If she dares to bite you today, she’ll dare to tear off the roof tomorrow! I’ll teach her a lesson for you, Boss!”

Song Sikai didn’t understand why Jiang Han bought Hu Yao, who was clearly a fool, and kept her for four years.

If it was for her looks, he could just play with her and be done with it. There’s no need for all this trouble. Now that she’s been raised well, she’s even more arrogant. Song Sikai felt that Hu Yao was trying to rebel.

Jiang Han was not happy with his tone when talking about Hu Yao, he kicked him to the ground and said coldly and unhappily: “Do you dare to teach her a lesson?”
