Chapter 30: Even a Fool Can Be Cured

Hu Yao smiled gently and picked the rice grains off his face.

“You dropped some rice!” Jiang Xiaochao, a child who valued food, felt it was a waste.

He asked Hu Yao to put the rice in Jiang Han’s bowl for him to eat.

Jiang Han rolled his eyes, “Jiang Fuchao, if you don’t want to eat, get out!”

“I’m eating!” Jiang Xiaochao pouted, holding his own small bowl and turning his back on him.

Hu Yao chuckled, not minding at all, and ate the few grains of rice stuck to his little face.

In the past, when she was at the Hu family, they couldn’t have white rice every day, even a thick porridge was a treat.

Seeing her actions, Jiang Han was annoyed again, “Let him eat himself! Don’t spoil him! You’d even pick up the rice that falls on the ground and give it to him?”

She didn’t hesitate to eat things that belonged to Jiang Fuchao!

“Daddy is mean, he’s always yelling at mommy.” Jiang Xiaochao protected Hu Yao, humming.

He felt that Jiang Han was jealous of Hu Yao being nice to him. After Hu Yao recovered, she was very kind to him. Just like before, they both still thought Jiang Han was bad.

“I’ll beat you up later! You wait until you’re full.” Jiang Han threatened coldly.

His intimidation made Jiang Xiaochao quickly shovel down his rice. After finishing, he ran outside to play.

Jiang Han said he would beat Jiang Xiaochao, but for several days, he hadn’t had time to do it, as if he was just scaring him.

These days, he was out early and back late, often returning in the middle of the night, and one night he didn’t come back at all.

The tea leaves had been harvested. Li Zhen came to settle the account with Jiang Han, but couldn’t find him. She asked Hu Yao, but Hu Yao didn’t know either.

“Of course you wouldn’t know anything about Brother Han’s business.”

After the incident with the wages, Li Zhen’s improved attitude towards Hu Yao had torn apart and couldn’t be maintained. She was sarcastic even when they were face to face.

“Maybe Brother Han is with Xu Zhu now. It was her birthday yesterday. I’ll be going back to my family’s place later anyway, so I’ll just go there directly.”

She said these words before leaving, seemingly without any reason.

“Brother Han really cares about Xu Zhu. He goes to celebrate her birthday every year. Some people can only rely on having a son.”

Li Zhen stopped at the door, deliberately saying these words, her eyes glancing at Hu Yao, who was indifferent and focused on sweeping the yard, completely lacking the reaction she wanted to see. She couldn’t help but feel angry and left with a dark face.

Was Hu Yao pretending to be stupid or couldn’t understand? She had said it so clearly, but she had no reaction at all! Was she even a normal woman?

Of course, she knew she was nothing to Jiang Han!

Even if Jiang Han really had women outside, could she control it? Did she have the ability to control him? Couldn’t she just hide and cry!

Thinking this way, Li Zhen felt much better.

Hu Yao really didn’t care if Jiang Han had women outside. Even before he bought her with money, his reputation for being promiscuous spread. His behavior towards her was always so dissolute, so these things were meaningless.

Li Zhen’s words didn’t stir any ripples in her.

If Jiang Han was obsessed with those women outside and didn’t do anything to her anymore, that would be fine. She didn’t have the confidence to change him.

As Li Zhen said, she had Jiang Xiaochao. She was Jiang Xiaochao’s mother. Jiang Han had supported her for these years, wasn’t it because of this relationship? He was domineering and protective, and she was considered his person. He wouldn’t let others bully her.

These were the insights Hu Yao had gained through recent interactions and memories.

“Chaochao, are you ready? We’re leaving.”

After sweeping the yard, Hu Yao called out, asking Jiang Xiaochao to bring two straw hats before leaving.

The watermelons in the field were ripe again. Lin Zhaodi was going to the town market to sell pumpkins this morning, so she went with her to sell watermelons. It was good to have company, and there wasn’t much work to do at home.

The market was crowded in the morning. Hu Yao hadn’t done heavy work for a long time, so carrying two baskets of watermelons was quite tiring.

Lin Zhaodi already had an “old spot” in the market. They set up their goods and started shouting to sell.

Hu Yao had never sold anything before. This feeling was quite novel. She cut open a watermelon and gave it to passersby to try. If they liked it, they would buy it.

It was hot in the summer, and watermelons were also good sellers in this season. Hu Yao sold them at a reasonable price, and almost everyone who tasted them would buy one or half.

Some were women with children. When the children saw Jiang Xiaochao sitting next to Hu Yao, happily munching on watermelon, they also wanted to eat.

Most parents loved their children, and they wouldn’t refuse to buy a watermelon for their kids.

Hu Yao’s watermelons were quickly sold out, even faster than Lin Zhaodi’s pumpkins.

Their stall had no shelter, and the sun was scorching. Hu Yao sat on a stool, feeling hotter and hotter. She cut another watermelon and shared it with Lin Zhaodi.

Fortunately, she had the foresight to bring straw hats, which could block some sunlight. Otherwise, it would be even hotter.

Jiang Xiaochao had already eaten a lot of watermelon, and now he couldn’t sit still. He wanted to pee.

He was a little shy and whispered to Hu Yao, covering her ears with his head.

“Yaoyao~ I need to pee.”

Hu Yao smiled and nodded, preparing to take him.

But Jiang Xiaochao didn’t need her to accompany him. After telling her, he ran off, saying he knew where to go.

“Brother Han has a few friends nearby. Xiaochao has been there several times, he remembers the way.” Lin Zhaodi said to Hu Yao with a smile.

But the market was so crowded now, Hu Yao was still a little worried about letting him run alone. No matter how much he remembered, he was still a three-year-old child. What if he met a bad person?

She got up and was about to follow his small figure running away.

Suddenly, someone else came to buy watermelon. It was a young and fashionable woman, her hair half-tied and half-loose, with bright red lipstick on her lips. Her tone was light and arrogant.

Hu Yao only glanced at her and couldn’t sell her the watermelon. She followed Jiang Xiaochao’s footsteps.

Lin Zhaodi had to take the watermelon for Hu Yao and hand it over.

The woman didn’t take it.

After a long silence, she sneered, “Even a fool can be cured.”

Lin Zhaodi didn’t respond.

Xu Xuzhu withdrew her gaze from Hu Yao’s departing figure, her eyes condescendingly looking at Lin Zhaodi, her face sinking. “You’re used to being a dog for someone, you’re still so nice to that fool. Even if you tell Brother Han that Hu Yao’s matter is related to me, what will he do? Will he move a finger for Hu Yao?”

“Even if Hu Yao really died, he wouldn’t hold it against me! What are you, you dare to spread rumors everywhere!”

The market was crowded with people, Xu Xuzhu acted arrogantly, not caring at all about what others might think of her. She directly slapped Lin Zhaodi twice, and after hitting her, she seemed to think her hands were dirty, with a look of disgust.

Lin Zhaodi clenched her fist, seeing Xu Xuzhu even more outrageously stepping on the watermelons and pumpkins placed on the ground, she couldn’t bear it anymore, she got up and pushed her away.

“You, you bitch, you dare to push me? You don’t want to live anymore!” Xu Xuzhu staggered to her feet, her eyes widened in disbelief, she glared angrily.
