Chapter 36: The Child Isn’t Ours
“Ah!! You little bastard! Once I marry your dad, I’ll be the first to kill you!” Xu Xuzhu glared at Jiang Xiaochao with venomous eyes.
Hu Yao’s gaze turned completely cold.
“Do you think your dad only has you as his son? I’m telling you, once the son in my belly is born, you’ll be nothing!” Xu Xuzhu now wanted to kill both Hu Yao and Jiang Xiaochao.
Hu Yao paused slightly, looking at her belly.
No wonder Jiang Han was so protective of her…
Xu Xuzhu continued to curse, and Jiang Xiaochao, with a puffed-up face, found a bigger stone to throw at her.
“Chaochao!”
Hu Yao was too late to stop him.
The stone, no bigger than his palm, hit Xu Xuzhu on the head. Her vicious cursing abruptly stopped, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted.
“You’re nothing!” Jiang Xiaochao roared fiercely.
He was small, but he wasn’t afraid of anything, and his actions were decisive and ruthless.
“…”
Xu Xuzhu’s previous shouting and the sound of hurried footsteps were getting closer.
Hu Yao wasn’t foolish enough to wait for them to catch her and Jiang Xiaochao. She glanced at Xu Xuzhu who was lying unconscious on the ground, quickly picked up her things, grabbed Jiang Xiaochao, and ran away.
It was one thing if Jiang Han came looking for her to settle the score later, but if she was caught by Xu Xuzhu’s people, it would be worse than facing Jiang Han.
“Yaoyao, don’t be afraid, I shut her up.” Jiang Xiaochao comforted her as they ran.
Hu Yao was speechless for a moment, not knowing what to say.
His temper was actually very similar to his father’s.
When they got home, Hu Yao felt uneasy again, unlike Jiang Xiaochao who was carefree and happy because he had beaten Xu Xuzhu.
Was Xu Xuzhu really pregnant with Jiang Han’s child? If so, Jiang Han wouldn’t let them off easily this time.
No wonder he had asked her to stay away from Xu Xuzhu before, he wanted her not to disturb her.
Hu Yao lowered her head, looked at the joyful little figure in the yard, found paper and pen, and wrote a letter with the address she remembered.
When she was a girl, she had a close neighbor sister who married a young intellectual. After the college entrance exam resumed, her intellectual husband passed the exam and took her away with him.
The neighbor sister was three years older than Hu Yao and had always treated her like a younger sister. Before she left, she left Hu Yao her address and told her to contact her if she needed anything, and she would help if she could.
Hu Yao’s relationship with her was more like sisters than with Hu Qiao.
Now, she could only think of her. If her neighbor sister was willing to help, she would secretly take Jiang Xiaochao away! Leave this place! There was nothing to be sentimental about here!
“Chaochao, Mom is going out for a bit, don’t wander around while I’m gone, okay?”
Jiang Xiaochao looked up at her and nodded obediently: “Okay.”
Hu Yao ran to mail the letter and quickly returned. Jiang Xiaochao was obediently waiting for her at home, munching on a crispy cake.
Looking at his cute and innocent little face, Hu Yao’s heart softened.
The most important thing to her now was him.
She didn’t know how big a fuss Xu Xuzhu’s matter would cause, but at least it hadn’t affected them yet.
Hu Yao was apprehensive as she cooked dinner.
Jiang Xiaochao, as usual, ate happily, unaware of the seriousness of the situation.
Sighing softly, Hu Yao temporarily suppressed the turmoil in her heart.
Jiang Han came back at noon.
He probably knew what had happened.
But his expression wasn’t the terrifying rage Hu Yao had expected.
Instead, as soon as he came back, he pulled her aside, his gaze filled with a sense of disbelief.
It was very strange.
Logically, Xu Xuzhu was pregnant with his child, and she had done that to her, he shouldn’t have this reaction.
Hu Yao looked up at him, the strange silence lasting for a long time.
Her tense nerves inexplicably relaxed.
“You’re pretty tough, Hu Yao.” He spoke, looking like he hadn’t expected it.
“I thought you were only good at being bullied! Good job, keep it up next time.” He reached out and pulled her face, praising her with a sigh.
Hu Yao was slightly confused.
“If others want to hurt you, don’t just let them beat you up like a fool, you know? If you can’t beat them, come tell me.” He lowered his head slightly, looking at her watery, dazed eyes, his voice softening inexplicably.
Why wasn’t he angry at all? Why was he saying these things to her? Hu Yao’s fingertips curled slightly.
“…Is her child okay?” After hesitating for a long time, Hu Yao finally asked. When she and Jiang Xiaochao left, she vaguely saw some bloodstains on Xu Xuzhu, and that was what worried her the most.
“Whether she’s okay or not is none of our business, the child isn’t ours.” Jiang Han put his arm around her shoulder, half-holding her in his arms. He was used to holding her now, and he actually liked the feeling of her in his arms, soft and fragrant.
Hu Yao looked up at him, slightly stunned. Xu Xuzhu’s child wasn’t his?
Yes, if it was his, how could he be so indifferent…
“What’s with that look? Go, find me something to eat.” Jiang Han glanced down at her, his big hand slapping her on the buttocks.
Hu Yao’s face flushed red, her steps flustered as she walked away: “You, what do you want to eat?”
He always touched her without warning.
“What’s left from lunch?” Jiang Han was used to her blushing at his touch. It wasn’t like he hadn’t done anything to her before.
Jiang Han didn’t even think about the fact that his actions were too bold and unrestrained.
Hu Yao went to the kitchen, reheated the leftover lunch, and brought it to him. He wasn’t picky, he didn’t care about leftovers, and he ate everything.
“Will I get you into trouble for arguing with her like that…” Hu Yao hesitated:
His attitude just now was one of “protecting” her. All the worries and anxieties she had before he came back seemed to be overblown.
But she heard that Jiang Han had a pretty good relationship with Xu Xuzhu’s brother. Xu Xuzhu’s personality wouldn’t let her just let it go.
She looked at him with a worried expression, her black hair falling around her cheeks, her lips red and teeth white, her eyes moist, reflecting his image clearly. Jiang Han’s heartstrings fluttered, and he noticed the scratch on her right cheek, frowning and lifting her chin to get a better look.
“Did Xu Xuzhu scratch you?” He didn’t answer her question, but asked something else instead.
His words made Hu Yao remember the incident. Xu Xuzhu’s scratch had been painful at the time, but now she felt nothing.
“Yeah.”
Jiang Han’s eyes darkened, and an unpleasant aura spread.
“Wait two more days, I’ll teach her a lesson!” He patted her head in a comforting gesture.
But he couldn’t control his strength, and he ended up hitting her head.
“Ouch.” She let out a low groan and grabbed his hand.
He always lacked gentleness, never knowing his own strength.
But what he said today made her feel a strange mix of emotions.
“Thank you, Jiang Han.” She whispered to him.
Jiang Han raised an eyebrow, looking at her quiet and obedient demeanor, his mood visibly improving.
