Chapter 66: Madness
The next day, Jiang Han left before dawn.
Knowing he had gone too far, he saw her asleep, a faint look of pity on her face, and thought she wouldn’t wake up the next day. Before leaving, he washed a few pieces of clothing they had changed into, and went to check on Jiang Fuchao, whose sleeping posture was so bad even a dog would disdain it. He pulled him back to the center of the bed and covered his exposed belly.
As he left before the sky was fully bright, he casually reached into the bag Hu Yao had packed for him, and sure enough, Jiang Fuchao had secretly stuffed two more flatbreads into it!
The kid did this every time, never changing his routine. Even with an extra flatbread, there would still be only two.
He left without waking them up. When Jiang Fuchao woke up, he went to brush his teeth and wash his face.
He took small steps to find Hu Yao first, and seeing she wasn’t awake, he hopped over to talk to his little cow.
Hu Yao woke up amidst his small noises.
The soreness and discomfort all over her body made her frown upon waking. Thinking back to the events of the previous night, her face involuntarily flushed, then a wave of annoyance washed over her.
This time he had cleaned her up, leaving her feeling fresh and clean, unlike before…
She had slept a little late today, and Jiang Fuchao hadn’t eaten breakfast. He had taken the last two flatbreads from home for his father, and Hu Yao was still asleep, so Jiang Xiaochao was so hungry he was almost going to fight his little cow for grass.
Finally, he couldn’t bear it anymore and started to bake eggs himself.
Since Hu Yao had recovered, he hadn’t used this skill for a long time, and he was a little flustered.
As soon as Hu Yao stepped out of the room, she saw thick smoke billowing throughout the yard. She was startled and hurried over to check.
“Mom, you’re awake! The eggs will be ready soon!” Jiang Xiaochao’s face was as black as a little kitten, but his smile was bright.
Meeting his bright little eyes, Hu Yao’s heart softened, a mix of complexity and warmth.
Why didn’t he wake her up when he was hungry, you silly boy.
“I’ll eat two, Mom is a grown-up so she eats three, and Niu Niu eats one.” Jiang Xiaochao didn’t know what Hu Yao was thinking, he had already started to allocate the eggs, his voice a soft murmur.
His little hands were black and dirty, Hu Yao gently wiped them clean, afraid he would get hurt, so she took the eggs buried in the charcoal fire before he could, and quickly made some food in the kitchen.
After a simple meal, mother and son, with smiles on their faces, took the little cow to graze at the foot of the mountain.
Life was no different when Jiang Han was away. Every day, Hu Yao either did small things around the house with Jiang Xiaochao or went to town to buy things and walk around.
If she happened to meet Jiang Han’s brothers and younger brothers, they would all call her “Sister-in-law” in a loud voice, and they were even more enthusiastic in helping her carry things home.
Jiang Xiaochao was small, but he could remember everyone’s name better than Hu Yao, and he seemed to be quite familiar with everyone, having something to say to each of them, his social skills were excellent.
Xiao Ya and her uncle were now living in town, and Hu Yao would sometimes bring Jiang Xiaochao to play with her. She was doing well at her uncle’s place, and she was visibly fatter than before.
Seeing her happy and innocent smile, Hu Yao was also happy for her. Those filthy and bad things shouldn’t affect such an innocent child.
…
With Jiang Han away, Hu Yao and Jiang Xiaochao were “mother and son” alone, and their days were peaceful and quiet. After all, Jiang Han was notorious, and there were always a few tall and strong younger brothers who would deliver things to Hu Yao and her son, so no one would be so foolish as to go looking for trouble with Hu Yao.
Time flew by, and it was almost half a month since Jiang Han had left. The vegetables Hu Yao had planted in the yard were gradually growing, and Jiang Xiaochao’s little cow would steal bites if it wasn’t held tight.
Just like Jiang Xiaochao, Hu Yao slept with him, and he hid biscuits under his pillow, eating them secretly in the middle of the night, the biscuits crunching.
Hu Yao found it funny and helpless, and after reminding him several times, he finally stopped eating biscuits in the middle of the night.
Jiang Han often went out before, and Jiang Xiaochao was already used to it. He would only mention him occasionally when he thought of him.
While Jiang Han was away, he was often mischievous and would steal his father’s cup to play with mud.
Whenever Hu Yao found out, she would quickly take it back and wash it inside and out.
Their days were peaceful and warm, comfortable and carefree. With Jiang Han away, there was no one to scold them from time to time, and mother and son were obviously more relaxed.
This kind of life, without worrying about food and drink, and without having to watch the faces of others and suffer cold eyes, was something Hu Yao had always longed for.
She had tried before, but she couldn’t change anything. She was framed and sold, and now, to this day, she was living a life that many people envied, which was somewhat dramatic and ironic.
In Taowan Village, Hu Yao had been well for a while now, and she didn’t interact much with the villagers. There weren’t many people she could call friends, and after her relationship with Lin Zhaodi became strained, she didn’t even have anyone to wash clothes with.
It’s not that no one wanted to befriend Hu Yao, but their intentions were too obvious, and she found it boring, so she would only be polite and courteous.
Recently, there was also a big incident.
It involved Lin Zhaodi again.
Her child was gone.
It was done by Li Zhen.
Li Zhen had been thinking about her child, who was beaten away by Lin Zhaodi, and the Liu family had taken the money, but how could she be reconciled? She was greedy for money, but for her lost child, no amount of money could buy it back!
So, not long after she returned from the hospital, she took the opportunity, full of resentment, to push Lin Zhaodi into a deep ditch.
Lin Zhaodi had already suffered a miscarriage, and with this push, her child was really gone.
That was the child she had been looking forward to for seven years, and now that it was gone, Lin Zhaodi was more frantic than Li Zhen.
She had already been so ruthless to Li Zhuangzhi before, and she was not a person who was afraid of trouble, but because she had a child she was looking forward to, she had some reservations.
Now that the child was gone, she was almost crazy, and whenever she met Li Zhen, she would fight with her.
Both of them had lost their children..
…Her resentment towards the other party was so strong that it couldn’t be concealed, and every time they fought, it was a fight to the death.
Lin Zhaodi, even more extreme, went to set fire to the Liu family’s house in the middle of the night. Xiaoya’s father was filled with sorrow and fatigue, unable to stop her.
The Liu family, provoked by her actions, became enraged again and severely beat her and Xiaoya’s father.
Lin Zhaodi’s biggest weakness was her child. The child was gone, and she was no longer afraid of death, so what else could she fear? The Liu family dared to beat her, so she seized the opportunity to go to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and with a grim expression, held it to Li Zhen’s neck.
Li Zhen was scared into a faint, before she passed out, she screamed at her, calling her a crazy woman.
Not only did Li Zhen think this way, but the villagers who had been watching the commotion for so long also shared this opinion. They secretly thought they should stay away from her in the future.
The matter escalated, and even the village chief stepped in, but Lin Zhaodi didn’t care. With a crazed expression, she slashed Li Zhen’s stomach: “Bitch! Give me back my child!”
