Chapter 67: Crazy (Scary, Viewer Discretion Advised)
Li Zhen was jolted awake by the pain, screaming repeatedly.
Seeing Lin Zhaodi’s murderous intent, the villagers couldn’t let it continue. Several men rushed forward to restrain her.
Xiaoya’s father, unable to bear it any longer, snatched the knife from her hand and slapped her hard twice: “Are you done making a scene? You crazy woman!”
He, along with the surrounding villagers, started to scold and berate Lin Zhaodi.
Lin Zhaodi raised her head, her eyes bloodshot, and glared fiercely at him, shouting angrily: “I am crazy! I’ve been crazy for a long time! What kind of man are you! Why did you act like a coward back then? Why did you sleep with me and then watch me marry someone else? You still don’t protect me and our child! When will you ever protect me once?”
“All of you, you’re the sluts!”
She used all her strength to break free, retrieved the knife from the ground, and with bloodshot eyes, swung it at anyone in sight.
For a moment, the aunts and grandmothers who were watching the commotion scattered in all directions, shouting in a cacophony that Lin Zhaodi had gone completely mad.
The commotion was so loud that the police were called.
After arriving, the police determined it was a fight and took everyone involved away, detaining them for ten days.
During those ten days, the “major news” discussed in Taowan Village was this incident.
Everyone said that Lin Zhaodi’s appearance that day resembled a demon, completely insane. They said that someone like her was no wonder she couldn’t keep her child.
Hearing all the gossip and seeing their animated expressions, Hu Yao quickly finished washing her clothes and silently returned home.
“Mom, you’re back! I watered Caicai!” Jiang Xiaochao, holding a water scoop, bounced over, his little voice tinged with a hint of seeking praise.
Hearing his childish, milky voice, much of the discomfort in Hu Yao’s heart dissipated. She smiled at him, “Chaochao is so good!”
“It’s something any child can do!” Having heard the praise he was looking for, Jiang Xiaochao’s eyes shone even brighter.
If he had a tail, it would have been wagging. But he still showed a bit of humility, his little appearance was adorable.
The smile in Hu Yao’s eyes deepened, and she rubbed his fluffy little head.
Since she had tied his hair for him, he refused to cut it. Even when Jiang Han was home and told him to cut it, he wouldn’t. He let it grow long so Hu Yao could tie it for him.
But when she tied his hair, he would emphasize that he wasn’t a girl, which made her laugh.
“Chaochao, how about Mom takes you to get a haircut tomorrow?” Hu Yao asked for the eighth time.
The firewood at home was running low, so Hu Yao went up the mountain to collect some. She dragged back some thick branches and brought them home to chop.
Her body had been pampered by Jiang Han for four years, and she hadn’t done any heavy work for a long time. Even chopping some firewood made her feel tired.
Jiang Xiaochao, very thoughtfully, brought her a cup of water to drink.
“I don’t want to cut my hair, I like to tie my hair!” He shook his head in refusal, then touched the little bun Hu Yao had tied for him at the back of his head.
His hair was now long enough to be tied up.
Jiang Xiaochao looked more like Hu Yao. People used to say he looked like a little girl, and now with his long hair, he really did look like a little girl.
Hu Yao looked at him and smiled again. If he didn’t want to cut it, she wouldn’t force him. He could cut it whenever he felt like it.
“Okay, Mom will wash your hair after I finish chopping the wood.” She said softly to him.
“Okay!”
Jiang Xiaochao loved it when Hu Yao combed and washed his hair!
Before Hu Yao had finished chopping the wood, he had already gone to prepare everything. First, he brought out the small basin he used for washing his hair, then took out his own towel, sat on a small stool and waited, happily telling his little cow that she was going to wash his hair.
The little cow mooed in response.
Hu Yao couldn’t help but smile.
The weather was getting cooler in late October, almost November. Jiang Xiaochao was a kid who always liked to lift his clothes and expose his belly. Hu Yao was afraid he would catch a cold, so she told him he couldn’t do that anymore.
Jiang Xiaochao promised quickly, but he still habitually lifted his clothes, even when sleeping, he would expose his white, round little belly.
He didn’t like to cover himself with a blanket, and if he did, he would kick it off.
He had already sneezed a few times today. Hu Yao made him some ginger soup to drink, and she woke up in the middle of the night to cover his belly.
This night, a cool breeze blew in. The wind was colder tonight than the previous few days.
Hu Yao half-sat up, using the dim moonlight to cover the soft, small figure beside her with a blanket.
He would always mumble a few words in his sleep, unintelligible, a milky voice.
She listened, couldn’t help but smile, and lowered her head to gently kiss his forehead.
The window was open a little too wide, the wind blowing in in gusts, carrying with it a strange, sticky, pungent smell.
Hu Yao gently got out of bed to close the window.
Outside the window, a shadow stood in the flickering light, stiff and eerie, its eyes, devoid of light, fixed on Hu Yao’s outstretched hand.
In just a few seconds, Hu Yao’s hand retracted, the window closed tightly.
Hu Yao, trembling, was fully awake. She pulled the curtains shut and hurried to the door to check if the lock was secure.
It was Lin Zhaodi! She was standing outside the window!
Covered in blood! Still holding a cleaver!
How did she get in? What was she doing here in the middle of the night, looking like this?
Thinking back to the moment she saw Lin Zhaodi standing there in the reflection of the glass window, Hu Yao got goosebumps again. Even Jiang Han hadn’t scared her like this.
“Xiaoyao.”
“You saw me, didn’t you?”
Lin Zhaodi’s hoarse voice came from outside the window, accompanied by the wind, cold and eerie.
“Heehee, I killed him, his intestines are so long, they’re all over my neck, do you want to see?”
“I killed them all!”
“Xiaoyao!” Suddenly, she slammed against the window with force, making a loud bang. Then, the cleaver scraped against the glass, making a sharp–>>
The sound was unbearable.
“Why weren’t you always nice to me! Why didn’t you save my child!”
“It’s time to eat, what do you and Xiaochao want to eat today?”
“Do you want me to braid your hair? Be good and I’ll braid it for you…”
“Li Zhuangzhi beat me again, he said I’m just a dog bought by you, the old woman told me to die…”
“Why don’t you talk to me?”
“Come out! Come out!”
She spoke incoherently, her words nonsensical, pulling and tugging at the bloody mess of intestines wrapped around her neck, becoming increasingly agitated.
Hu Yao trembled, hugging her startled Jiang Xiaochao.
She was truly mad! Driven mad by everyone, by herself!
“Oh, I’m coming!” Jiang Xiaochao was still half asleep, his eyes blurry, hearing Lin Zhaodi’s loud, agitated voice, he thought it was his father, and in a daze, he mumbled in response.
Hu Yao quickly covered his mouth.
The house’s doors and windows were sturdy, but Lin Zhaodi, hearing Jiang Xiaochao’s voice, went mad, smashing the glass with her knife. Thankfully, there was an iron bar behind it.
The wind rushed in, blowing the curtains, Hu Yao saw her again, her eyes falling on the tangled, bloody intestines wrapped around her neck, her scalp tingled, she couldn’t help but gag, tightly holding Jiang Xiaochao’s head in her arms.
“Chaochao, don’t look.” Hu Yao’s voice trembled, she hugged him and hid in the corner of the bed.
