Chapter 99: Regret for You

“Why are you staring with your eyes wide open, not sleeping?”

The room was dimly lit with only a small lamp, as usual. Jiang Han walked in and approached the bed, meeting her gaze as she was wrapped in the blanket.

Usually, she would already be asleep by now.

“I…” Hu Yao sat up.

“Want a pancake?”

Before she could say anything, he took a package out of his pocket and opened it, releasing a fragrant aroma.

It was a scallion pancake, still warm, crispy and delicious.

Hu Yao took a bite of the pancake he stuffed into her mouth without waiting for her reply.

“Just two, eat them now, don’t give them to Jiang Fuchao.” He seemed to enjoy feeding her things these days.

“Where did you buy the pancake?” Hu Yao finished the scallion pancake with his hand, asking curiously.

“Got it from Tang Haofei’s house, like it?”

Hu Yao nodded, it was delicious. She hadn’t eaten much for dinner, and the first bite of the scallion pancake made her realize she was hungry.

“Let’s see if they have any more tomorrow.” Jiang Han looked at her with softened features, pleased by her docile demeanor.

After feeding her the last bit of the pancake, he went to wash and shower, telling her to go to sleep.

Hu Yao decided to tell him about Zhong Jinghuai first. She didn’t sleep during his shower, feeling a mix of anxiety and nervousness. She absentmindedly smoothed the blanket, adjusted her pillow, and picked up two strands of her hair that had fallen onto Jiang Han’s pillow.

“Do you want to go outside and trim the cow’s hooves?”

He saw her still “busy” after he finished showering and said casually.

“…I have something to tell you.” Hu Yao looked up at him with her clear, moist eyes.

“What is it?” He was a little surprised by her unusual demeanor.

He got into bed beside her, wrapping his arm around her, intrigued.

“Don’t get angry.” She spoke softly.

“I won’t get angry until you tell me.” He glanced at her, his tone playful.

“Don’t be harsh.” She said again.

Jiang Han was in a good mood now: “Okay.”

“Hu Qiao came today. She threatened me, saying I should tell you to help her find a husband.” Hu Yao explained.

“Help her, that old cripple.” Jiang Han didn’t care, stroking her soft hair.

“She said she wants to marry Tang Haofei.”

Jiang Han raised an eyebrow: “Tsk, what kind of taste does she have? That guy isn’t even as good as the old cripple.”

“……” Hu Yao was silent.

“How did she threaten you?” He asked in a low voice, his eyes narrowing slightly.

“…She said if I don’t help her, she’ll… tell you and others about my relationship with Zhong Jinghuai…” As she said this, Hu Yao felt a sense of relief, but her heart also tightened.

“Who is that?” Jiang Han frowned.

Hu Yao shifted her gaze, lowering her voice: “…My previous boyfriend.”

The air fell silent after she finished speaking.

A few seconds later, Jiang Han reached out and turned her face towards him: “What kind of boyfriend do you have?!”

His voice seemed to be squeezed out, his back teeth grinding, his eyes turning fierce as he looked at her.

“It was in the past.” Hu Yao tried to pry his hand off her chin, though his grip wasn’t strong, it somehow felt dangerous.

He wouldn’t let go.

“You said you wouldn’t be angry.” Hu Yao had no choice but to let go of his hand, looking at him softly.

“Which eye of yours saw me getting angry?!” Jiang Han said coldly.

“……”

She saw it with both her eyes. His face was dark and grim, his words laced with gritted teeth.

“Seeing you makes me annoyed! Shut your mouth and go to sleep!”

He let go of her hand, grumbling, and pulled the blanket up to cover her entire head, turning away.

Hu Yao was suffocated by the blanket, struggling to pull it down.

Before she could make another move, he pulled her back into his arms and held her tightly: “Did you do anything with that guy? What’s there to be threatened about?!”

He told her to go to sleep, but he kept asking her questions.

“We didn’t do anything. He only held my hand.” Hu Yao said seriously.

Back then, although she had confirmed her relationship with Zhong Jinghuai, they were both very proper and wouldn’t do anything inappropriate. He wouldn’t force her either.

Jiang Han sneered: “You’ve gotten bold, letting a man hold your hand! Why didn’t you just have a child with him and Jiang Fuchao together?!”

Hu Yao: “…”

He was now being sarcastic and petty.

Back then, she had nothing to do with him. She was dating Zhong Jinghuai.

“What other secrets are there, tell me quickly! Don’t let me wake up tomorrow and find out everyone is saying I’m wearing a cuckold’s hat!” He was filled with suppressed anger, voicing his annoyance.

Hu Yao pursed her lips, glanced at him, and slowly told him the truth.

“Heh.”

“I’m even regretting for you both!”

Jiang Han glared at her fiercely, reaching out to pinch her face again.

Hu Yao hugged his hand, hesitated for a few seconds, and then, blushing slightly, kissed him on the corner of his lips, as if to comfort him.

“We have no relationship now. Hu Qiao said he’s getting married soon.”

Her soft touch landed on his face, Jiang Han paused, lowered his gaze, and met her clear, bright eyes.

“If you dare have a relationship now, I’ll break your leg!”

After a long silence, his expression softened, but his tone remained cool.

“You’re lucky I didn’t bury you alive earlier!” Of course, he knew there was nothing between her and that so-called boyfriend. Her body was his! He was the only one who had touched her! But why did he still feel uncomfortable?

“Out–>>

Shut up, you still dare to talk about dating! How come Hu Guifen didn’t beat you flat! Do you still know that guy’s address?” He pulled her hand out of the covers, kneading it gently but firmly, his tone still not good.

“……What do you want the address for?”

“I’ll give that bastard ten times the amount of your damn dowry!”

“What, you don’t want to give it back? Are you waiting for me to die so you can run over there and remarry?”

“Are you tired of living?”

“Are you looking for a beating in the middle of the night?”

“I’ll beat you flat and bury you on the mountain right now!”

This dead woman, Hu Yao, wouldn’t be happy unless she was making him upset every day! Thankfully, she would still confess and explain everything to him!

Under his dark and dangerous gaze, Hu Yao slowly revealed the address she remembered.

After all this commotion, Jiang Han’s good mood was completely gone. He angrily wrapped her up in the blanket and told her to stop talking again.

“Jiang Han, I won’t run away. You’re very good to me, thank you.” Hu Yao whispered earnestly to him before going to sleep.

She was telling the truth. Although his temper wasn’t good, he always said he would beat her, but he never actually did. That time, she had been suppressed for too long and she couldn’t control her impulses and argued with him. He… he would still coax her. His words might be harsh, but his actions were far better than most people.

Nowadays, her relationship with Zhong Jinghuai was no longer what it used to be. There was regret, but she still had to live her life. He was going to get married and have a new life. She couldn’t go and disturb him, and she wouldn’t impulsively break the relatively stable and harmonious life they had now.
