Chapter 2 : The truth of the previous life
It’s Shen He!
Su Ranran recognized this voice instantly! For decades, this magnetic voice had haunted her dreams in the quiet of midnight. People told her to let go of the past and move on. But they didn’t understand.
If someone risked their life to save you at the most critical moment, how could anyone in the world replace them?
At least, Su Ranran couldn’t. She wasn’t sure what was happening now, nor did she want to think about it. All she knew was that she could still stand before him.
“Shen He!”
Without hesitation, she threw herself toward his broad chest!
Her frail body collided directly with him, and Shen He was stunned. For a moment, he couldn’t comprehend what was happening.
“Shen He…”
Her muffled, tearful voice came from his embrace, and her trembling, delicate frame was like that of a wronged child, evoking a sense of pity.
Shen He’s fingertips curled as he instinctively raised his hands to comfort her. But something made him stop. His hands hovered mid-air, frozen.
“I regret it. I don’t want a divorce!”
Su Ranran sobbed as she finally voiced the words she had long buried in her heart. For countless days after his death in her previous life, regret had consumed her. She had blamed herself over and over for misunderstanding his deep love.
Now, given the chance to start anew, she wanted to tell him face-to-face that she didn’t want to leave him.
Hearing her words, Shen He’s heartbeat faltered.
Was he hallucinating?
Hadn’t she been desperate to return to the city?
She had even starved herself just to convince him to let her go. It was because of this that Shen He had avoided coming back to this room, unable to bear her pleading eyes. But in the end, her increasingly pale face broke his resolve.
He had reluctantly agreed to the divorce.
Yet now, she was saying she regretted it?
It wasn’t until he felt her warm tears soaking his chest that Shen He realized this was real. The woman in his arms had never been this close to him before. The heat of her body seeped through the thin fabric, as if it was burning straight to his heart.
After a long silence, Shen He finally spoke, his voice hoarse.
“Do you… know what you’re saying?”
Hearing his deep, magnetic voice, Su Ranran inhaled his familiar scent greedily.
“I know. I don’t want a divorce!”
Perhaps it was because she had returned to her twenties, but Su Ranran’s tone had become more youthful, tinged with a hint of coquettishness and willfulness.
To Shen He, this rare coquettishness made it even harder to resist.
“Su Ranran, have you thought this through?”
Shen He asked again.
He lifted her delicate chin and gazed at her pale, bloodless face. It was as though he were trying to decipher her true intentions. But there was no hesitation or regret on her face.
The sudden 180-degree change in her attitude made him feel as if it wasn’t the same woman who had starved herself and forced him to agree to a divorce.
However, he didn’t want to delve into the details.
“This is your only chance to divorce,” Shen He said, staring into her tear-filled eyes.
Su Ranran couldn’t look away from his rugged, handsome face. But when her gaze fell on his bloodshot eyes, her heart ached.
In her previous life, she hadn’t noticed how much pain he was enduring. The longing and uncertainty in his eyes broke her heart. Not wanting to make him wait any longer, Su Ranran nodded solemnly.
“No regrets!”
As soon as the words left her mouth, a powerful force pulled her from behind. Before Su Ranran could react, she was enveloped in a tight, fiery embrace.
The man’s low, fierce voice rang in her ears.
“Su Ranran, you said it yourself. Even if you cry to death in the future, I will never let go!”
Hearing his domineering words, Su Ranran’s heart trembled fiercely. But most of what she felt was uncontrollable joy. However, her body, weakened from days of not eating, had reached its limit.
Nestled in his strong embrace, Su Ranran finally let herself slip into darkness with a sense of peace.
“Wife!”
—
Su Ranran had a long dream in which she saw the life of another person. The woman in the dream was Li Xueqiu, the daughter of the village party secretary.
Before Su Ranran’s rebirth, Li Xueqiu had been blind, mistaking fish eyes for pearls. Spoiled by her family’s love, she had broken off her engagement with Yu Zhengjun and married Liu Jidong, an educated youth from the city.
Who could have predicted that shortly after giving birth, the college entrance exam system would be reinstated?
The man who had once sworn sweet words of love to her abandoned both her and their daughter. Li Xueqiu became a laughingstock in the village team! Unable to bear the ridicule, she left for the south to work after the reform and opening up.
At first, Li Xueqiu only wanted to earn enough money to return to the village and prove herself to those who had mocked her. But as a simple country girl, how could she resist the allure of the city’s dazzling lights and wine?
Before long, she lost herself in the city’s pleasures and had no choice but to sell herself for money. This money came easily but was spent just as quickly. After more than ten or twenty years, Li Xueqiu hadn’t saved much. She had grown old and unattractive, earning very little. Worse yet, she had also developed a heart condition.
While running around big hospitals for treatment, she unexpectedly saw two familiar figures.
One was Su Ranran, who had gone to the countryside to join the production team, and the other was Shen He, dressed in his military uniform. But that wasn’t the most shocking part. The real surprise was the richest man on TV, who was currently in the spotlight, it was none other than Yu Zhengjun, the rough man she had broken off her engagement with!
The difference between their lives was like heaven and earth, and Li Xueqiu ultimately died filled with hatred!
Unexpectedly, after dying in pain, when she opened her eyes, she found herself back at the moment when she had just broken off her engagement with Yu Zhengjun. Not only that, but she had been fortunate enough to gain a mysterious space. This space contained countless supplies. Relying on her rebirth and the resources in the space, Li Xueqiu worked to win back Yu Zhengjun, the man she had once discarded. Along the way, she punished her enemies, amassed wealth, and ultimately reached the pinnacle of her life!
At the same time, Su Ranran was lying alone in the emergency room. The room was empty, with not a single person by her side. It wasn’t until Su Ranran died in pain in her dream that she suddenly woke up!
The suffocating feeling of dying left her gasping for air.
Sweat dripped from her forehead, but Su Ranran didn’t bother wiping it away. As the scenes from her dream played in her mind, she couldn’t help but clench her fists. Because those weren’t just dreams, they were memories of her past life.
She never expected the truth to be like this.
Just because Yu Zhengjun proposed to her in her first life, and she ended up living better than Li Xueqiu, Li Xueqiu wanted to trample her underfoot?
No wonder, in her past life, even though Su Ranran rarely left home, she kept running into Li Xueqiu. And every time they met, Li Xueqiu would flaunt the real estate projects her husband had developed. She would also imply that Su Ranran could introduce her to influential people.
What Li Xueqiu meant by “introductions” was self-explanatory.
Just because Su Ranran had witnessed Li Xueqiu in a moment of disgrace in their first life, Li Xueqiu wanted her to fall into ruin?
Thinking about it now, Su Ranran found it utterly absurd. How could such a person get a chance to start over and ruin the lives of others?
Suddenly, Su Ranran thought of something and quickly rolled up her sleeves.
Lowering her eyes, she looked closely and froze.
There, on the inside of her pale wrist, was a small, bright red mole.
