Back to the 1970s: Bringing Hundreds of Billions of Supplies to the Army Chapter 62

Chapter 62 : What’s wrong with the deputy leader?

The soldiers in the team had already caught glimpses of the graceful figure from the corners of their eyes.

Soldiers have excellent eyesight.

When they saw the beautiful face clearly, they couldn’t help but take a deep breath, and their eyes suddenly lit up.

‘Where did this fairy come from? She’s too beautiful, isn’t she?’

But before they could take a closer look, they heard the deputy commander’s voice, which was noticeably a few degrees colder.

“Everyone! Run!”

One command, one action.

Although their eyes were still drawn to the beautiful figure, their feet had already started running instinctively.

Only when they could no longer see the fairy-like figure did they reluctantly withdraw their gazes.

Still, their minds wandered.

‘Who is that stunning girl?’

Everyone was wondering the same thing but failed to notice that their deputy commander’s face had darkened.

After struggling to run back to the camp, just as they were about to catch their breath, they received an order to run another five kilometers.

Hearing this, the soldiers almost wailed in despair!

But they had long known about Shen Yanluo’s reputation, so they only dared to grumble in their hearts. Who would actually dare to complain out loud?

Almost as soon as the deputy commander gave the order, they immediately started running again, not daring to hesitate.

After finally completing the extra five kilometers, they felt as if their lives had been drained halfway.

“What do you think? Has the deputy commander gone crazy?”

Even though Shen He had already left, the person who spoke still didn’t dare to raise his voice, as if afraid of accidentally triggering another five kilometers.

Seeing his cautious and exhausted expression, Fang Libin couldn’t help but sigh.

“The deputy commander’s wife was at the South Island base just now.”

These fools had made him run five extra kilometers and nearly drained him dry.

Hearing this, the soldiers who had already disbanded their formation erupted in excitement.

“My goodness, Yang Xuejun wasn’t lying this time!”

The new sister-in-law really looks like a fairy!

“No wonder we got an extra five kilometers!”

With such a beautiful woman standing there, who wouldn’t steal a few extra glances?

On the other side, Su Ranran was still seriously pulling weeds. After who knows how long, the sun had risen higher and higher in the sky.

“Ranran, I’m heading back to cook. Do you want to come with me?”

Zhong Juhua looked at the scorching sun above and asked Su Ranran.

It was already noon, and their husbands would be coming back soon.

“Let’s go together. I’m starving.”

Although Su Ranran didn’t have to cook, her stomach was already growling.

Exhausted, they packed up their things silently, too tired to talk.

Just as Su Ranran picked up her hoe and was about to reach for the dustpan, a large hand got there first. Looking at the well-defined fingers, Su Ranran’s heart skipped a beat. The emotions she had suppressed earlier surged up again.

“Why are you here?”

Looking at his sweat-drenched face under his military cap, Su Ranran’s heart pounded uncontrollably.

Her face flushed, and although she wanted to look at him, she didn’t dare to. But the way she stared at him, full of fascination, made Shen He feel a little overwhelmed!

When he led the team back earlier, he had felt her burning gaze.

In that moment, Shen He felt as if his blood was about to boil.

All he wanted was to hold this little woman who was staring at him so intently.

After finally bringing the soldiers back to the camp, Shen He headed straight to the South Island Base without stopping for a moment.

“I’m here to pick you up.”

As he spoke, he reached out and took the hoe from Su Ranran’s hand.

If it weren’t for his slightly awkward movements, no one would have noticed the restlessness in his heart at that moment.

They hadn’t said or done anything particularly affectionate, yet the two military wives watching nearby inexplicably felt like they were being fed dog food (‘a Chinese expression for feeling envious of someone else’s romantic relationship’).

“Ranran, we’ll head back first. You two take your time.”

After saying their goodbyes somewhat awkwardly, Zhong Juhua and Lin Qiulian quickly made their exit.

Before Su Ranran could even respond, the two had already disappeared.

Su Ranran: …

“Let’s head back first.”

Shen He took everything from her, leaving Su Ranran empty-handed.

But as his gaze fell on the land that was only one-third dug up, he couldn’t help but frown.

“Leave the planting to me. Don’t tire yourself out.”

Hearing this, Su Ranran felt a bit helpless.

“I’m fine, and I haven’t been doing anything too strenuous. Since I’ll be living in the family compound from now on, I shouldn’t be too independent.”

More importantly, she still needed to test the agricultural techniques she had learned in her secret space.

But how could Shen He be at ease? If she got tired or hurt, it would be too late for regrets. However, he also understood his wife well, she might seem delicate, but she had strong opinions of her own.

If he didn’t agree now, she might come back secretly to finish the work later.

After thinking it through, he compromised and said, “I’ll till the soil for you, and you can handle the lighter tasks.”

Hearing this, Su Ranran didn’t refuse any further.

By the time they got home, it was already eleven o’clock in the morning. Shen He went to the camp to get their meals while Su Ranran washed her face and hands.

The sand by the wall reflected the sun, making it almost blinding.

In fact, the entire yard was covered in sand, and the sun wasn’t just hot, it was glaring and painful to the eyes.

At that moment, Su Ranran was eager to decorate the yard as soon as possible. Having studied horticulture, she couldn’t bear to see the yard looking so barren. She wanted to plant some flowers and greenery to fill the empty space.

However, the scorching sun made the sand unbearably hot. Even the resilient grass seeds she had in her secret space might struggle to survive under such conditions.

Seeing this, Su Ranran decided to give up for now and sat in the kitchen, fanning herself while waiting for Shen He.

After what felt like a long time, Shen He finally returned with two lunch boxes.

But his expression seemed off.

“What’s wrong?” Su Ranran quickly walked up to ask.

Shen He’s eyes scanned her, paused for a moment, then asked, “Did someone bother you this morning?”

They had discussed things before joining the army, she could take out common items when needed but should minimize their use.

Shen He knew his wife wasn’t someone like Li Xueqiu, who enjoyed showing off.

Since she had given someone a bundle of vegetables, it meant she had encountered some trouble.

Su Ranran didn’t deny it. “I had a little trouble, but it’s already resolved.”

Hearing this, Shen He didn’t press further. He simply nodded and said, “If you ever run into trouble that you can’t handle, tell me.”

He didn’t question her actions at all, as if he fully trusted her ability to handle things on her own.

This absolute trust and respect made Su Ranran feel warm inside.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Lu Haiyan was facing her husband’s fury.

“Look at yourself! What kind of mess have you caused? It’s your sister-in-law’s first day here, and instead of helping, you went and caused trouble?”
