Chapter 65 : Wife, who is he?
After finally finishing dinner, Su Ranran didn’t go anywhere. She followed Shen He around like a shadow, trailing him wherever he went.
When he finished washing the dishes, she took them and put them back in the cupboard.
When he washed his hands, she handed him a towel to dry them.
Shen He couldn’t help but soften at her gentle and adorable demeanor. Not wanting to keep her waiting too long, he led her back to the study.
Once the door was closed, the two sat down on the stools again.
“This book records a special exercise method that strengthens muscles and bones,” Shen He said, carefully opening the book, a hint of surprise in his voice.
As a soldier who trained daily, he could more or less tell whether the content was reliable.
Su Ranran: …
It was just an exercise method for strengthening muscles and bones, not some alien language, so why couldn’t she understand it?
Seeing the confusion on her face, Shen He pointed to the text and explained, “The order of the words is jumbled.”
For someone unfamiliar with this type of content, it would be nearly impossible to notice.
No wonder she couldn’t understand it!
Su Ranran was thoroughly convinced.
Thinking about martial arts novels where characters went crazy from practicing incorrectly, she wondered, was it because the words were in the wrong order?
“It won’t be wrong, will it?” Su Ranran asked hesitantly.
Shen He’s eyes softened at her worried expression.
“Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out,” he reassured her.
Hearing this, Su Ranran felt relieved. She knew he wasn’t the type to be blindly confident.
She handed the book over to Shen He without further concern.
For her, any training method was useless at the moment, but it might have unexpected benefits in his hands.
While organizing the library, Su Ranran found several other similar books and handed them all to Shen He, leaving it to him to determine their usefulness.
For the next two days, Shen He spent all his time studying the book whenever he was home, except for meals and baths.
Despite being busy, he still made time to help her pull weeds at the South Island base and till the soil.
Su Ranran never even saw when he managed to do it. Every morning when she woke up, he was already gone, only coming home at noon and in the evening. But she was busy too. She cut potato seedlings from Zhong Juhua’s field and planted them in her own plot.
Luckily, there was a ditch next to the South Island base, so she could easily divert water to the field without having to carry buckets for irrigation, which made things much more convenient.
Both of them were occupied with their own tasks.
It wasn’t until Shen He’s day off that he finally had time to take her to the county.
They set out early in the morning.
Coincidentally, the logistics department’s vehicle from the military camp was also headed to the county that day, so they hitched a ride in the procurement truck.
Two soldiers were responsible for procurement, and Shen He had already arranged it with them the day before. The vehicle was waiting outside the family compound early in the morning.
“I heard the deputy commander’s wife is really beautiful,” Meng Shun said, eagerly peering into the compound.
He had been away from the army for the past two days and missed meeting her.
Rumors had spread throughout the camp that the deputy commander’s wife was as beautiful as a fairy, making Meng Shun extremely curious.
Now that he finally had a chance to see her, he couldn’t contain his excitement.
However, just as he finished speaking, Chen Weidong slapped the back of his head.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you, keep your eyes to yourself when you see my sister-in-law.”
Thinking about the hellish training they had endured in the past two days, Chen Weidong felt like he was living a nightmare. But could he complain? Absolutely not!
Because the deputy commander completed the same training easily, as if nothing had happened, while the others almost collapsed, exhausted like dead dogs, he couldn’t believe that the training over the past two days had nothing to do with them secretly eyeing the deputy commander’s wife a few days ago.
Upon hearing this, Meng Shun couldn’t help but shrink his neck.
When he returned to the camp yesterday, he noticed that the brothers in the kitchen team looked completely drained, as if they had been worked to the bone.
So, this was the reason?
Thinking about it, Meng Shun silently warned himself that no matter what happened, he would never dare look around again, even if it rained red from the sky!
Fortunately, they didn’t have to wait long.
Two figures appeared on the small road leading to the family compound.
As soon as they saw the deputy commander’s long legs appear at the end of the road, both soldiers instinctively stared straight ahead, not daring to glance around.
When Su Ranran approached the military vehicle, she saw the two young soldiers standing at attention, saluting them together!
“Hello, Deputy Commander, hello, Sister-in-law.”
This formal greeting was a first for Su Ranran, and she almost didn’t know how to respond.
After seeing Shen He return the salute, she hurriedly responded with a “Hello.”
Hearing her gentle voice, Meng Shun nearly couldn’t control his eyes. But remembering the sight of the exhausted brothers, he managed to hold himself back.
He didn’t breathe a sigh of relief until both Shen He and Su Ranran got into the car. He silently hoped the deputy commander would ease up on the training intensity when they returned.
It was Su Ranran’s first time sitting in a military truck, and she was a bit curious. She sat in the back seat beside the driver, and the ride was very smooth with little to no vibrations.
After leaving the camp, the truck continued on the road through the island.
The island still had no cement or asphalt roads; just a dirt road led directly to the dock.
They had left at daybreak, and with the car windows down, a slightly salty sea breeze blew in their faces. In the distance, they could hear the sound of waves and occasional seagull calls.
Today, they would be buying food and other supplies, but the main priority was transporting the plants from her space back to the family compound via the open road.
Su Ranran had already discussed everything with Shen He, and he didn’t mind. He was just amazed at the strange things she occasionally “converted” from her space.
Thankfully, Su Ranran was measured in how she used things. She only brought things that were momentarily needed, then took them all back when she was done.
Perhaps it was a habit now, but there was nothing extra in the house.
Soon, the military vehicle arrived at the island. Many people were still trying to cross the sea and were gathered under a shed.
As soon as they saw the military vehicle, everyone curiously peered over to look.
Su Ranran, sitting by the car window, became the focus of attention again, as expected.
Luckily, the boat arrived shortly after, and the car drove directly onto it.
As soon as the vehicle was on the boat, the people followed one after another.
This was Su Ranran’s first time sitting in a car on a boat, and she found it rather novel. The boat slowly left the dock, sailing across the green sea.
A golden sun slowly rose from the east.
Perhaps because of her rebirth, Su Ranran now cherished every day. Even something as simple as watching the sunrise brought her joy.
She didn’t know how long it had been, but suddenly a surprised voice called from outside the car.
“Ranran, what are you doing here?”
Su Ranran looked toward the voice and saw a gentle, handsome face.
After a moment, she recognized the man standing before her. But before she could respond, she realized something was off in the car.
The atmosphere felt inexplicably tense.
At the same time, Shen He’s voice came from behind with an ambiguous tone.
“Wife, who is he?”
Su Ranran: …
