Chapter 85 : Thanks to You
Having been there once yesterday, Su Ranran was familiar with the route and soon arrived at the weather station.
The people at the weather station also recognized Su Ranran and did not stop her. She quickly found Qi Xiunian at the radar observation point.
As soon as she entered the observation point, she saw a group of people surrounding the radar, installing something.
Qi Xiunian was among them.
Su Ranran didn’t understand and had to wait patiently.
The people installing the radar looked a bit haggard, with bloodshot eyes, and it was obvious they hadn’t slept at all last night.
But they appeared serious, and their movements were fast and precise.
I don’t know how long it took, but soon someone shouted loudly, “It’s done.”
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone below was immediately shocked.
Just as Su Ranran was about to call out to Qi Xiunian, he hurriedly walked past her, as if nothing existed in his view except the radar.
Soon, Su Ranran saw the group of people starting to get busy again.
This time, they weren’t installing the radar but appeared to be testing it.
Seeing their serious expressions, as if they were doing something extremely important, Su Ranran had to resist the urge to call for help again.
As time passed, the faces of the people at the observation point grew more and more serious.
Although Su Ranran already knew the result, she was still stunned by the tense atmosphere at the scene.
At the same time, she looked at the radar with some curiosity.
It only took them one night to improve this radar?
Though Su Ranran had always known that the country’s scientific researchers were smart and hardworking, they were catching up while other countries still enjoyed high welfare.
In just a few decades, they had made up for centuries of development in other places. The speed was unimaginable.
Behind this speed, countless people were working silently.
Just like now, she had casually mentioned the need for this improvement, and they had organized so many people and worked a whole night to demonstrate and transform it.
Although she didn’t know what the result would be, she deeply admired their spirit.
Time passed, and no one knew how long it had been. Suddenly, someone shouted, “The data is out!”
Upon hearing this, everyone immediately dropped what they were doing and gathered around.
“Level 18!”
Suddenly, a voice with a different tone broke the solemnity of the test point.
Everyone present was a bit in disbelief.
“Could it be that the calculation is inaccurate?” Someone held out a glimmer of hope.
Level 18! What an incredibly high level!
A level 12 typhoon is enough to overturn the huts on the island, and level 18 had only been recorded in history two hundred years ago.
“The calculation is fine.” Qi Xiunian frowned, his face serious.
“Hurry… hurry up and make a phone call!” Old Liang’s voice trembled violently.
They had to quickly notify the county and the Pingzhou Island government departments.
As soon as he finished speaking, someone rushed out like a fly.
Although the others had fear on their faces, they were more excited about the newly developed radar.
“Okay, Qi Xiunian, how did you come up with such a brilliant idea?”
Using this S-band test, not only was it fast, but the data was also much more accurate than the previous vague range.
Qi Xiunian frowned, showing no happiness about successfully modifying the radar.
“My teacher…”
Before he could finish speaking, he saw Su Ranran standing not far away.
“Ranran! Why are you here?”
Qi Xiunian walked toward her quickly.
Su Ranran had originally planned to tell him about the typhoon’s intensity on behalf of her biological mother, so he could quickly notify the government and the military.
But now that they had measured it themselves and made the necessary phone calls, her words were unnecessary.
After all, a lie requires countless lies to cover it up.
“I wanted to discuss something with you, but now it’s fine.”
She said, looking at the modified radar with some amazement.
Qi Xiunian also followed her gaze and looked at the radar, then a hint of excitement appeared in his eyes.
“Thanks to you.”
If she hadn’t reminded him that he could use the S-band test, he wouldn’t have been able to measure the typhoon’s intensity so quickly.
Yesterday, he had sensed that this typhoon was unusual, but he couldn’t determine its specific strength.
The others then realized that the radar they worked on overtime yesterday was actually the idea of this female comrade?
“Engineer Qi, where did you find these talents? Why don’t you recruit them to our weather station?”
Old Zhao looked at the female comrade with excitement. Without waiting for Qi Xiunian to speak, he added, “Girl, are you interested in working at the weather station?”
Upon hearing this, Qi Xiunian’s eyes also lit up, and he looked at her with expectation.
Su Ranran: …
Does he not know what her background is?
“Thank you for your kindness, leader. I just overheard this. Actually, I don’t know anything about this industry.”
She really didn’t understand it, and it was impossible for her to enter the weather station shamelessly.
Upon hearing this, Old Zhao looked a little disappointed, and Qi Xiunian wasn’t much better.
“Will you notify the troops about this typhoon?”
Su Ranran asked the question that concerned her the most.
Seeing the urgency in her eyes, Qi Xiunian smiled self-deprecatingly.
After a pause, he said, “Yes, someone has already notified them.”
Hearing this, Su Ranran breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good. Thank you, you’ve worked hard. I’ll head back now.”
She still had to prepare.
The houses in the family compound had tile roofs, and they certainly couldn’t withstand such a strong typhoon.
She would have to pack up her things when evacuating.
But just as she finished speaking, she heard Qi Xiunian say, “Come with me, I have something to do in the army.”
Su Ranran hurriedly turned around and didn’t refuse.
After all, she had approached him twice because of the typhoon. If she turned her back on him now, it would make her seem ungrateful.
She nodded to the others again before walking away.
“Is this girl Qi Xiunian’s girlfriend?”
Old Zhao wasn’t at the weather station yesterday, so he hadn’t seen Shen He. Seeing Qi Xiunian’s anxious expression, he asked curiously.
“You guessed wrong. She’s already married. Her husband is the deputy commander of the army.”
Zhao Liang didn’t expect that she was married. He said with a look of pity, “It seems Qi Xiunian has no chance.”
Qi Xiunian faintly heard the conversation behind him. He glanced at the slender figure walking beside him from the corner of his eye, and his eyes dimmed a little.
Su Ranran was in a hurry to go back, and she didn’t want to pay attention to those speculations.
After this typhoon, she would probably have no chance to return here.
Because the super typhoon was about to land, neither of them was in the mood to talk along the way. They walked so fast, it was as if they could fly.
Soon they arrived at the fork in the road that led to the military camp and the family compound.
When Su Ranran was about to say goodbye to Qi Xiunian and head back to the family compound, she saw a familiar figure in military uniform out of the corner of her eye.
