Chapter 2: Familiarity with Space

Who would have thought that a space appeared before her eyes? She stepped in and found it was exactly like the one in her dreams, and it could appear at any time according to her thoughts. She was overjoyed, thinking that if she could put real-world objects inside, she could live a life like a paradise. She looked at the boundless land with great delight and then stepped out of the space.

Lin Anran looked at the room in reality and had a bold idea. But then she thought she shouldn’t do that and must return the bracelet to the old man. She went to the bathroom and tried repeatedly to remove the bracelet using soap, scrubbing until her wrist turned red and even hurt, but she still couldn’t take it off. Remembering the old man’s words and that she had to go to work the next day, she decided to just lie down and sleep.

The next morning, she ate some breakfast on the street and arrived early at the hospital to visit the old man she had helped rescue the day before. To her surprise, the ward was empty. She went to the nurse station to ask. A nurse who had worked the night shift said, “The old man in bed 15 has improved. His son came, and he was transferred abroad for treatment. He’s probably on a plane by now.”

Lin Anran listened in disbelief. She said, “Please help me check the contact number on his medical record. I need to reach him.” The nurse browsed the electronic records on the computer and said, “Here it is. You can call him.” Lin Anran looked at the numbers and dialed with her phone. She only heard the “beep beep” sound. Seeing her anxious expression, the nurse added, “The old man said you saved his life. It’s fate, so don’t worry about it.”

Hearing the nurse, she recalled what the old man had said and looked at the bracelet on her wrist. She immediately got busy, working nonstop until noon. In the afternoon, during her break, she returned to her apartment and lay down on the bed—she entered the space again.

Inside, it was exactly like her dream. In the courtyard grew a fruit tree with fruits resembling babies. She didn’t dare eat them, fearing poison. She looked at the house. It was extremely similar to a Beijing siheyuan. Upon opening the main door, the front was the main house, flanked by two side rooms. The main house was decorated entirely with golden nanmu wood. The room measured over forty square meters, with an antique screen at the front carved with plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. There was a large bed measuring 2 meters by 2.2 meters with porcelain pillows decorated with pearls and peonies. Every item in the room was carved from natural materials with exquisite craftsmanship.

On either side of the bed were antique-style wardrobes carved with beautiful patterns. Outside the screen were two grand chairs with carvings. In the middle stood an antique table with a bronze mirror shaped like a sunflower in its center. Lin Anran marveled at everything—any single item could buy a house in Beijing.

By instinct, she reached out and touched the mirror. A flash of light appeared, reflecting off the jade bracelet on her wrist. Instantly, a flood of information filled her mind. Rubbing her aching head, she summarized it:

  1. The tree in the courtyard bore ginseng fruits with life-restoring effects. They could be eaten, granting eternal youth and healing.
  2. The two side rooms in the main house: the left could house small animals, the right was a storage room that could expand infinitely to hold anything.
  3. The vast surrounding land spanned ten thousand acres for farming and animal husbandry, with crops maturing five times faster than outside—five days inside equaled one day outside.
  4. The river could be used for raising fish and shrimp.
  5. Planting and raising could be controlled by thought and will according to her needs.

Familiarizing herself with everything, she went to the right side room and found a kitchen in the corner. On the stove were two large iron pots, and nearby was a cabinet containing antique-style bowls, chopsticks, and carved plates, but nothing else.

She went to the courtyard, picked a ginseng fruit, and ate it. It was fragrant and delicious. Instantly, she felt energized, shedding her fatigue. Looking in the mirror, she saw her skin had become smooth and delicate, blemishes and freckles vanished, and her dry hair turned black and shiny, reaching her waist. Her body weight dropped from 120 jin to 96 jin. The reflection in the bronze mirror resembled results comparable to Korean cosmetic surgery.

She turned around in the mirror. Every part of her body had perfect golden proportions: the upper and lower body ratio was 5:8; chest-to-height ratio was 1:2; waist was 20 cm smaller than the chest; hips were 4 cm larger than the chest; thigh circumference was 10 cm smaller than the waist; calf 20 cm smaller than the thigh; ankle 10 cm smaller than the calf; neck-to-calf ratio was 1:1; upper arm to thigh ratio was 1:2; shoulder width was half the chest minus 4 cm. She had an oval face, double eyelids, willow-shaped brows, and a cherry-like mouth, resembling a top celebrity.

She was thrilled but also worried about what would happen when she left the space. Stepping out, she looked in her full-length mirror. Her face still retained the golden proportions, smooth skin, and she turned around to confirm—it was indeed much more beautiful.

After a simple breakfast, she went to the hospital. The doctors and nurses noticed her transformation and were all astonished at her beauty.

A crowd gathered around her, saying, “Dr. Lin, are you really Dr. Lin? You don’t look like her!” “Did you get Korean cosmetic surgery? You look stunning!” “That figure, those proportions… are they even real? Dr. Lin, tell us where you got it done, we want to go too!” The group chattered endlessly.

Xiao Feng, the director of the emergency department, young and accomplished, had become the director at a very young age thanks to his superb medical skills. He couldn’t take his eyes off the breathtaking Lin Anran. He had already liked her, and this transformation made her beauty beyond words! Seeing everyone whispering and staring, he said, “What are you all gawking at? Don’t you have work to do?”

Hearing the director speak, everyone immediately dispersed. Wang Tian, listening to the gossip, pushed through the crowd and saw the stunning Lin Anran. Jealousy made her stomp her foot, and seeing her secret crush Xiao Feng, a terrible thought formed in her heart…

Lin Anran was an orphan and had lived alone for years. Until recently, someone reached out to her, claiming to be a friend of her parents, and left her an apartment in Shanghai. It was in a prime location, worth around twenty million.

After finishing her work, Lin Anran left the hospital. The weather was cold, with snow still falling from the sky. She wore a black down jacket and went to a rented large warehouse in the suburbs. She took out her phone and paid the deposit. Then, holding the property certificate, she went to a real estate agency, where a beautiful young lady approached her and asked, “Ma’am, are you buying or selling a house?” Lin Anran replied, “Selling!”
