Chapter 23: Yu Jingchuan just doesn’t care about her birthday
In her past life, she had longed for Yu Jingchuan to celebrate her birthday, but it never happened.
She had initially thought he didn’t care about holidays, but she later learned from Xia Zhuxin that he gave her gifts every year.
He even spent time with Xia Zhuxin on her birthday. Lin Yitang then realized he simply didn’t care about her birthday.
The only birthday gift she received from him was a silver bracelet.
Although it was a bit large, she loved it and treasured it, taking it out to admire it every day.
She later learned that it was a birthday gift for Xia Zhuxin, given to her only because Xia Zhuxin didn’t want it.
The treasure she cherished was discarded by Xia Zhuxin.
Remembering her past life, Lin Yitang felt heartbroken.
When her father, Lin Dajun, was alive, even with just the two of them, her birthdays were lively.
Lin Dajun always cooked her favorite dishes, bought her what she wanted, and fulfilled her wishes.
Before marriage, Lin Yitang looked forward to her birthday. After Lin Dajun’s death and her marriage to Yu Jingchuan, she no longer anticipated it.
She knew no one cared, not even Yu Jingchuan.
Lin Yitang’s nose felt sour, her eyes welling up. She couldn’t control her sadness.
“I haven’t forgotten.”
Yu Jingchuan replied indifferently.
Yu Chengyu smiled triumphantly at Lin Yitang. She knew her brother cared about Xia Zhuxin!
“What gift did you get Sister Zhuxin? She reserved a table at a restaurant for just the two of us. You must come!”
Yu Chengyu kept tugging at Yu Jingchuan’s arm. Then she invited Lin Yitang.
“Lin Yitang, join us!”
Yu Chengyu feared Lin Yitang hadn’t given up on her brother and wanted her to see how much Yu Jingchuan valued Xia Zhuxin, so she would give up!
“No, I have something to do that day.”
Go to Xia Zhuxin’s birthday? Impossible.
Lin Yitang packed her things, stood up, and told Chu Peilan, “Aunt Chu, I’ll go to my room.”
“Okay.”
Yu Chengyu snorted at her back and continued talking about Xia Zhuxin’s birthday with Yu Jingchuan.
Yu Jingchuan was distracted, thinking about Lin Yitang’s sadness. Why was she like this?
“Brother, you’re so perfunctory!”
Yu Chengyu stamped her foot, and Yu Jingchuan realized he had been thinking about Lin Yitang.
He quickly focused on Yu Chengyu, who was satisfied.
Two days later, Yu Chengyu took Yu Jingchuan out early. Lin Yitang was reading in her room when Zhang knocked.
“Yitang, one of Jingchuan’s comrades is here to see you.”
Lin Yitang frowned, guessing who it was.
She quickly changed clothes and went out, finding Chen Xiuyuan standing outside.
“Comrade Lin!”
Chen Xiuyuan smiled brightly.
Lin Yitang was surprised. “What are you doing here? You’re discharged?”
“Yes, the doctor said I’m recovering well. My wound is almost healed. Commissar Qin gave me two days off, so I came to see you.
Comrade Lin, I’m here to thank you. Without your soup, I wouldn’t have recovered so quickly. Now that I’m discharged, I want to treat you to dinner. Please!”
Chen Xiuyuan stared at Lin Yitang, afraid she’d refuse.
Lin Yitang hesitated but agreed.
Chen Xiuyuan was happy and excited but nervous.
He had confessed his feelings for Lin Yitang and couldn’t wait any longer. He planned to confess during dinner.
He was of marrying age. His family had introduced him to several girls, but none he liked.
Lin Yitang was the first to make his heart flutter. If she accepted him, it would be wonderful!
Chen Xiuyuan’s palms were sweating. He wiped them on his pants and took Lin Yitang to a nearby restaurant.
Along the way, Chen Xiuyuan talked about funny incidents.
Lin Yitang laughed several times. Seeing her smile, he spoke even more enthusiastically.
At the restaurant, Chen Xiuyuan said, “This restaurant is privately owned but delicious, especially the fish.
I heard you like fish and wanted to bring you here.”
Lin Yitang was surprised he remembered her casual comment.
She thanked him, “Thank you. I’ll treat you next time if it’s good!”
Chen Xiuyuan took her inside. The restaurant was full.
They were seated by the window when they heard a voice.
“Lin Yitang, what are you doing here?”
Looking in that direction, Lin Yitang saw Yu Chengyu arm in arm with Xia Zhuxin, followed by Yu Jingchuan.
“Commander Yu? What a coincidence. You’re here too!”
Chen Xiuyuan greeted Yu Jingchuan.
Yu Jingchuan scanned them, his eyes colder.
Chen Xiuyuan ignored his warning and was serious about Lin Yitang.
Xia Zhuxin’s gaze lingered on them. She noticed Chen Xiuyuan’s feelings for Lin Yitang and had an idea.
“Jingchuan, Chengyu, since we’re here, let’s sit together! More people make birthdays more lively!”
