Ma Tian’s eyes were dark and gloomy. He clenched Chen Caifeng’s hand and looked unwillingly at Yu Xifeng.
From the first day Yu Xifeng came to this building, he had taken a liking to her — that delicate face made people’s hearts itch.
She clearly looked like a scholar’s daughter.
If they could live together, spending time side by side, what a great opportunity that would be. But this woman was really useless.
Yu Xifeng was the same — a shameless wretch who didn’t know how to appreciate kindness.
He gave the wife in his arms a hateful glance, grabbed Chen Caifeng’s hand, half hugged, half dragged her along.
Behind Ma Tian, there were quite a few neighbors from the same building.
Since no one could go out now, and their activity space was limited, many people were walking around the stairwell.
Ma Tian had gone up and down to the 15th floor many times in the past two days, accompanied by a pregnant woman, drawing quite some attention. Many people followed along.
Aunt Liu was behind, whispering and pointing, loud enough for Yu Xifeng to hear.
“Young people these days are really cruel. So what if she’s a pregnant woman borrowing a place to stay for a few days? They’re neighbors in the same building. They won’t even lift a finger to help with such a small thing.”
Yu Xifeng was just about to close the door when he shouted, “Sister Caifeng, you should go to Aunt Liu’s house. Even though she says it’s no big deal to help, you can’t take it that way — you have to consider Aunt Liu’s feelings.”
Aunt Liu’s place was on the 12th floor; the water definitely wouldn’t reach there anytime soon.
“Auntie,” Chen Caifeng looked at her with hope in her eyes.
“No way,” Aunt Liu stepped back.
What a joke — letting a pregnant woman stay at her place? If anything happened, whose fault would it be?
She definitely wouldn’t get involved with such a big trouble.
People always speak without feeling the pain themselves.
Seeing the surrounding people snicker, Aunt Liu quickly added, “I’m taking care of my grandson now. My son will be back in a couple of days. There’s no extra space.”
She gave Yu Xifeng a sharp glare, “But you, a young lady living alone in such a big place — what’s wrong with freeing up a room for a pregnant woman?”
“Aunt Liu, don’t say that. My relatives will come over in a few days too. There’s no extra space for them either.”
Aunt Liu spoke bluntly, “That’s nothing. It’s empty now anyway. When your dad comes back, Caifeng can just move out.”
Yu Xifeng smiled faintly, “Aunt Liu, I remember your place has three rooms, right?”
The Keke Yajun complex has two types of units.
Three-bedroom, one-living-room apartments are about 120 square meters, like Aunt Liu’s. The house Yu Xifeng’s mother left her is a two-bedroom, only a little over 90 square meters.
“A three-bedroom is much roomier than my place. Your house is empty now, so Sister Caifeng can stay there, and when your son comes back, you can move out.”
Yu Xifeng threw her words back at her exactly.
Aunt Liu’s face stiffened. Seeing the hesitant Chen Caifeng, she wished she could slap herself for opening her mouth. She shouldn’t have said anything!
She was even more annoyed at Yu Xifeng for dragging her into this and began to argue nonsense: “You live alone, why won’t you free up a room? You’re running a business in the house, pushing and pulling people around.”
“I saw it yesterday — even that late, a man came by, bringing you a big bag of stuff. Now if you want to go buy something, it’s not easy.”
The man she referred to was Captain Wang.
Since Aunt Liu saw him, she couldn’t not recognize the rescue team uniform, but she still said it deliberately.
Yu Xifeng shot back, “What business? I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Since you know so much, you must have done it yourself, right? Why don’t you tell everyone, so we can learn a thing or two?”
“You filthy slut, what nonsense are you spouting!” Aunt Liu rushed forward to slap Yu Xifeng.
She had disliked Yu Xifeng for a long time and didn’t think she was spreading rumors.
Aunt Liu had checked with the property management — this woman was the owner, Yu Xifeng herself.
She emptied her savings to buy this apartment in Keke Yajun for her son.
Aunt Liu was proud of her own stinginess.
Why should this woman be so lucky?
Who else had their own apartment at such a young age? She must be selling herself outside.
Her grandson wanting some chips from her was because he respected her.
She simply looked down on this filthy woman.
Behind an alloy door, Yu Xifeng grabbed Aunt Liu’s hand and gave a sharp tug.
Aunt Liu’s nose hit the door frame hard. She never expected Yu Xifeng to have such strength, gripping her hand like pliers. Aunt Liu’s head was squeezed against the doorpost, her face contorted in pain.
“Murder! Help!” she screamed hoarsely.
Yu Xifeng increased the pressure.
Her expression calm and unyielding, without any hint of anger, which made her even more terrifying.
People around exchanged glances.
“If I hear you spouting nonsense again, I won’t be this polite,” Yu Xifeng said.
Blood ran from Aunt Liu’s nose. Her face was blue and purple, looking utterly miserable.
She stumbled back several steps. Her grandson cried loudly at her feet.
“You lunatic!” Aunt Liu screamed.
Yu Xifeng didn’t reply.
Being a lunatic was fine — no one dared to mess with her, and she could do whatever she wanted.
The crowd dispersed, and Yu Xifeng closed the door, humming as she continued mopping the floor.
The cat dryer was ready; she let the cat out.
It was a long-haired ginger cat, with striking features and surprisingly pretty.
“From now on, you’re called Little Ginger,” Yu Xifeng said casually, flipping it over. “Oh, a male.”
Little Ginger got up, shook its fur, and ran away.
Yu Xifeng set up a litter box and prepared a bowl in the bathroom.
For dinner, Yu Xifeng cooked a big pot of noodles. As usual, she scooped a bowl for herself and packed the rest into her space.
Inside the space, the sand in the hourglass had increased.
She hadn’t entered the space yesterday, so with today’s addition, she could stay in there for two hours now.
Yu Xifeng treasured this time and planned to conserve it well, only entering when absolutely necessary.
Just organizing supplies could be done with her consciousness.
Yu Xifeng mixed a spoonful of chili sauce into her noodles and added a marinated egg.
After dinner, she continued stockpiling cooked food in the space.
She wished she could prepare enough food to last her entire life.
Since there were still shops open now, she’d make as much as she could. She had paid so much in electricity and gas bills; she couldn’t waste it.
Returning from the supermarket this time, Yu Xifeng could make many more ready-to-eat items.
Dumplings, buns, steamed bread, twisted rolls, pizza, the stove fired up full blast, and the rice cooker kept steaming rice.
She was busy until almost midnight.
