Yu Xifeng set up a pinhole camera outside the door.
After adjusting the angle, the pinhole camera faced directly toward the Zheng family’s location, able to clearly see the comings and goings of the Zheng family members.
She had followed Zheng Weiyang a few times. Zheng Weiyang often went to the office building at the center of the underground shelter, completely absorbed in his work.
Helpless, Yu Xifeng shifted her focus to Zheng Chengfan instead.
Zheng Chengfan’s movements were much more varied.
On the second day of tailing him, he went to the outer ring of the shelter.
Yu Xifeng was very familiar with the flow of the outer ring of the underground shelter. She found a dead corner, went into her space, and quickly changed into a different outfit.
A dry wig, a pale complexion made with foundation, a highlighted thin face, and nasolabial folds drawn downward.
Yu Xifeng’s own eyes had a slight natural tint, so she put on pure black contact lenses.
There were also cloudy fine lines around the corners of the eyes.
Makeup could visually alter bone structure, plus a deliberately unwashed set of clothes.
It was the same outfit she had worn to the museum during the heavy rain.
When Yu Xifeng came out of the space again, blending into the outer ring, she looked no different from the other survivors.
She walked past Zheng Chengfan, who disgustedly avoided her, not even sparing her a glance.
She sluggishly followed behind Zheng Chengfan, watching him pinch his nose as he found a family, looking impatient, pulling out several packets of compressed biscuits and a can of meat from his bag.
He handed out supplies to several families, one after another.
“The dead are already dead. The living need to live well. Keep your mouths shut. There will be more next month, otherwise—hmph.”
Inside, someone named Weiwei apparently responded.
The outer ring was chaotic, filled with all kinds of noises—snoring, chatting, flushing toilets, cooking.
Zheng Chengfan’s voice was very low; Yu Xifeng leaned in a corner and only heard that one sentence.
The Zheng family had hired a group of people in the outer ring to work for them.
What he was handing out was like compensation money.
Yu Xifeng glanced at the electronic watch in her pocket. After wandering around the outer ring with Zheng Chengfan today, she still hadn’t found the Zheng family’s factory.
A little boy ran straight toward her.
Yu Xifeng immediately held him down, and with the other hand, twisted the boy’s hand that tried to reach into her pocket.
“Get lost,” Yu Xifeng said hoarsely.
The boy lowered his head and timidly walked away.
Zheng Weiyang had announced he would donate all his wealth—ten thousand jin. Since he was always stuck in the office absorbed in work, someone had to take care of distributing the food.
Yu Xifeng could wait.
After tailing for three more days, Yu Xifeng witnessed the post-apocalyptic versions of karaoke halls, billiard rooms, and borderline parties.
A manager inside came out, stared at Yu Xifeng, and said, “Go away, go away. Don’t even look at what you look like. We don’t want people like you.”
Yu Xifeng: “…”
Before she could lose control and throttle Zheng Chengfan—
Finally, Yu Xifeng saw him wearing a thick wool coat—he was going to the surface.
Not only Zheng Chengfan, but also the woman in the warm yellow dress from before.
The two of them were holding each other intimately.
The woman wore stockings and boots, with a short Chanel-style jacket.
Yu Xifeng found the outfit a bit painful to look at.
Underground heating was one thing, but on the surface, with temperatures minus fifty or sixty degrees, this was courting death.
Zheng Chengfan and his companion got onto a truck.
Of course, Yu Xifeng had a car too, more than one.
But those SUVs from the villa area were too conspicuous, and Yu Xifeng regretted it.
She should have gotten a Wuling Hongguang instead.
Yu Xifeng followed the tire tracks for a while, making sure no one was watching, then drove out a vehicle.
The snowy road had been cleared in advance.
The road didn’t head toward the Zheng family’s original factory location.
After driving a while, the car couldn’t go further.
The road was blocked by snow.
Even Zheng Chengfan, the Zheng family’s young master, had to get out and shiver as he walked forward on two legs.
His companion’s legs were as stiff as bamboo poles, limping.
Zheng Chengfan didn’t really care about her.
Even Yu Xifeng couldn’t figure out why the woman followed him.
Was it some kind of mystery she didn’t understand?
Don’t understand but respect.
Yu Xifeng didn’t dare get too close, trailing at a moderate distance, until she finally saw a fence.
The sign on the gate indicated this was a medical equipment factory.
It was hidden quite deep.
Understandably so. Inside the underground shelter, people maintained order daily, which was chaotic.
Outside, if anyone knew there was still a prosperous agricultural and food processing factory here, someone would have torn the roof off by now.
Yu Xifeng circled around the factory area.
Most likely, this was the place.
Yu Xifeng hadn’t wasted these few days tailing, not even properly eating to avoid arousing suspicion or being discovered.
The sky was still early; Yu Xifeng casually picked a nearby building.
Most houses outside were empty.
After entering, she locked the door from the inside and closed the windows before entering her space.
She first took a bath to restore her yang energy. Half an hour later, wrapped in a towel, she went to check on her territory.
The geese had grown larger, now nearly as big as the fattest hen.
They looked vigorous and spirited.
Yu Xifeng suspected the goose had a gene mutation.
She didn’t remember geese growing this fast.
But she had no way to verify and could only try raising it through trial and error.
She still didn’t know if the goose was male or female. Several times she tried to pick it up and check.
But every time she tried to lift the goose’s feet, it screamed and ran off like a man kicked in the groin.
Fortunately, it no longer fought with the hens.
Probably having confirmed its status as leader, it led a group of chickens and ducks daily, walking from east to west and back.
Yu Xifeng sat in the master’s chair and ate a meal of green pepper shredded pork with two side dishes—potatoes and braised pork—and drank a bowl of corn rib soup.
After eating her fill, she called the little orange cat downstairs, petted its fluffy fur, and gave it a chicken breast canned treat from her pet snacks.
Little Orange rubbed against Yu Xifeng’s hand after the meal.
Yu Xifeng leaned back in the chair and dozed off, feeling a soft purring sound by her head.
It was Little Orange.
The sound was roughly a kind of white noise; Yu Xifeng unconsciously relaxed.
But with things on her mind, the nap was not very peaceful.
About forty minutes later, Yu Xifeng woke up.
By estimation, it was almost dark outside, around three or four in the afternoon.
Yu Xifeng cut herself an orange slice.
Little Orange sniffed it, flicked its tail, and walked away.
Yu Xifeng finished eating, threw the orange peel into the chicken coop, waited a little longer, then dressed and exited the space.
The cold outside instantly wrapped around her.
A cold breath froze her throat, and she suddenly coughed violently.
Indeed, being a thief was not that easy.
Yu Xifeng bypassed the security office and toughly sneaked inside.
Before entering, she used a crossbow arrow to take down the surrounding cameras.
