Yu Xifeng leaned against the corner, seeing Wang Anmin. For a moment, she didn’t know whether to advance or retreat.
At this moment, being spotted by Wang Anmin, with his overwhelming sense of responsibility, he would probably send her back on the spot.
What a hassle.
Yu Xifeng clicked her tongue inside her heart.
Just as she was about to take a detour, she caught sight of a familiar figure in the chaotic crowd.
Great, it just came to me.
And with a package, no less.
Zhao Yao and Yang Rong were actually together.
Yu Xifeng had excellent night vision. From a distance, with occasional light sweeping over them, she could clearly see the fresh blood on their foreheads.
Zhao Yao was running while spitting on his forehead, trying to wipe off the mark.
Previously, that mark got him free meals; now it might get him a bullet.
The two sensed something was wrong and took off running.
The patrol team had limited manpower and only managed to capture about ten people nearby.
Mainly because the Sun God Cult members were scattered across different districts, setting fires everywhere, making Wang Anmin overwhelmed.
If it weren’t for Yu Xifeng being here, Yang Rong probably would have escaped.
Yang Rong and Zhao Yao being together wasn’t hard to guess.
It must have been arranged by Xu Qingrou.
The Sun God Cult’s benefits were real and tangible.
Xu Qingrou didn’t want to do risky things herself but wanted to reap the benefits.
Before, she pushed Yu Xifeng into these things; now without Yu Xifeng, it was Yang Rong’s turn.
A total tool.
It was obvious these people wanted to break into the inner circle.
But the patrol team had tight defenses guarding the inner circle, so they settled for targeting District 2.
Compared to other districts, District 2 suffered the most damage.
Probably because they thought destroying those devices would allow more heating to be supplied to other areas.
One could only say, they had nice dreams.
Yu Xifeng even suspected that the big chaos caused by the Sun God Cult was orchestrated by higher-ups behind the scenes.
Yu Xifeng smelled a familiar scent in this matter.
Resources were limited, and conflicts would inevitably break out sooner or later.
Better to create a notorious scapegoat.
With someone to take the blame, those in power could pull out.
Zhao Yao was running out in a mess; the heating facility he sabotaged was very close to Sister Yun.
He wanted to find Sister Yun to ask her to take him in, so the patrol team wouldn’t catch him.
Sister Yun would agree — they played mahjong together, and the grandma even gave him sweet potatoes.
Right, right, right.
Yang Rong was even more desperate and panicked than him.
He didn’t know why he was in District 2; he just thought he was going to work.
After today, he would get his paycheck.
Half a jin of rice.
Ever since being stabbed by Yi Jiancong, he had been in a daze, his heart deadened.
He wouldn’t have his own son anymore.
He knew it wasn’t Xu Qingrou’s fault; she gave birth to their son. It was he who hadn’t protected him well.
He hadn’t protected his son, nor himself.
After this ordeal, the two became comrades in hardship, growing a little more genuine affection.
Whatever Xu Qingrou said, he obeyed.
Until he saw the patrol team, and the string in his mind snapped.
Only then did he realize what he had just done.
Run. Get away from here. Don’t get caught.
Yang Rong’s mind cleared for a moment but suddenly bumped into someone.
That person grabbed his hand, and in the darkness, seemed to smile faintly.
It was Yu Xifeng.
He had no mood to stop and ask where his daughter had been or how she’d been lately.
Yang Rong just wanted Yu Xifeng to get out of his way and not block him.
Yu Xifeng held his hand and, in Yang Rong’s terrified eyes, dragged him step by step back.
Yu Xifeng wasn’t holding only him.
Any cult member running toward her direction was knocked down.
But Yang Rong was the only one she held onto.
Zhao Yao didn’t run this way.
No matter, Yu Xifeng still had her words.
“I, I’m your dad,” Yang Rong tried to struggle, but with his hands held tight, even a bit of force hurt.
Yu Xifeng hummed in acknowledgment, “I know, dear.”
“You can’t treat me like this.”
If caught and kicked out of the underground shelter, he would die.
He couldn’t die. He was a Yang.
He, he couldn’t die.
Yu Xifeng didn’t stop walking and knocked a man on the head with a stick.
This was the guy who just smashed the heating equipment.
After knocking him down, Yu Xifeng turned back to Yang Rong, “Now, there’s no civil service exam.”
Handcuffs weren’t enough; they all tied people up with ropes directly.
Yu Xifeng tossed Yang Rong over and greeted Wang Anmin.
Wang Anmin’s eyes were shocked and angry; he took a moment out of his busy schedule to say, “What are you doing running around now? Hurry back to the inner circle. Don’t open the door for anyone.”
Wang Anmin’s chin looked like it had been punched; it was bruised and purple.
He was tied up underground.
Yu Xifeng raised her hands to show she meant no harm, “Just passing by, just trying to help you out. Those guys are all down, I’m leaving now.”
Wang Anmin was soon called away by the radio, “Xiao Rong, come take her back.”
Yu Xifeng handed Yang Rong over to Wang Anmin and didn’t cause any more trouble, cooperating as she returned home.
Xiao Rong looked very young.
Because it was urgent, she couldn’t even give away the zongzi in her bag, so Yu Xifeng gave her a glutinous rice dumpling.
“You’re not an adult yet, right?”
Xiao Rong nodded shyly, hesitated, then accepted the dumpling.
“Hey, today’s session was intense, let’s hurry up. I still need to go support my teammates later.”
Yu Xifeng said, “You all worked hard. It’s fine to stop here. You saw just now, those people can’t beat me.”
Xiao Rong said, “That’s an order; I can’t slack off.”
Yu Xifeng casually stopped two cult members trying to escape, tied their hands, and brought them back.
When they got home, Xiao Rong saw the floor at the doorway full of people lying down, mouths forming an ‘O’.
Oh my god.
Xiao Rong came alone but left dragging a long line.
All of them were handed over to Wang Anmin for record.
That night, the broadcast announced:
The Sun God Cult was officially designated as a cult.
Their extreme actions directly caused nearly half of the heating equipment to require emergency repairs.
All survivors were ordered to stay in their designated areas and forbidden to leave. Violators would be expelled from the underground shelter.
That night, the temperature in the underground shelter dropped sharply.
The thermometer in Yu Xifeng’s room showed the temperature had fallen below zero.
Before, the temperature in Yu Xifeng’s house had been steady around 20 degrees Celsius.
At Sister Yun’s place, it was about 15 to 16 degrees.
Further outside, around five to six degrees, never below zero.
Now, even the inner circle had dropped this low.
This was already the result of the inner circle’s heating equipment running at full power.
Outside would only be harder to endure.
There was no hot water supply anymore.
Yu Xifeng changed clothes and put on an extra thick coat.
Then she added an extra quilt under her mattress.
Yu Xifeng yawned and lay down to sleep.
