Chapter 131
Looking at the illustrated guide’s information, Mu Huiyue frowned slightly. This was actually a Monarch-class, Mature-stage [Armored Type] intelligence-attribute pet beast.
Back in high school, Lin Fei’s first contracted beast, the Yunmeng Mo, hadn’t managed to break through to the Mature stage in time. However, the later-contracted Type-One Gusoku had ascended to an even higher tier.
Such situations were rare—unless Type-One Gusoku had already been close to the Mature stage at the time of the contract, or Lin Fei possessed some external method to raise his pet beast’s tier, such as something akin to an Experience Fruit.
No matter the case, this was going to be a highly challenging doubles match.
Before Mu Huiyue, a five-layered summoning sigil emerged.
From the glowing array, the form of the Frost Night Battle Wolf appeared on the battlefield. Then, her shadow extended forward, and from the thick black mist, the Pale Fang Soldier stepped out.
“Ellen, White Fang.” Mu Huiyue gazed at her partners’ backs and smiled faintly. “I’ll leave this battle to you.”
This was the continuation of that nationwide ranking match, the final answer Mu Huiyue would give after months of effort.
In the hollow eye sockets of the skeletal soldier, a ghostly blue flame ignited, while the towering white wolf lowered its center of gravity, assuming an attack stance.
The two pet beasts made no sound, but the intense emotions flowing through the contract already conveyed their determination in that moment.
The referee took their position and announced that the match was officially beginning.
“Polar Night Echo, attack the Yunmeng Mo!” Mu Huiyue was the first to launch the offensive.
White Fang tilted its head and let out a long howl. The visible energy wave centered around it rapidly spread out in all directions.
Although the battlefield environment didn’t change, everyone, including the spectators in the arena, felt a chilling wave that made them shiver involuntarily.
The battle space seemed to darken considerably, with White Fang receiving an energy boost. The environment, rich in dark attribute energy, allowed Ellen to thrive.
The Pale Fang Soldier slipped into the shadows, while the Frost Night Battle Wolf created multiple moonlit shadow clones, stepping on the dark shadows cast on the battlefield by the gloomy clouds, swiftly charging toward the small Dream Mo sleeping among the soft clouds.
“Teleport, then use Somnambulism,” Lin Fei said calmly.
Just as White Fang’s Shadow Hunt was about to hit its target, the Yunmeng Mo suddenly vanished from its original spot and reappeared at a different location on the battlefield.
The soft clouds around it hadn’t fully settled yet, but the shadows falling from above suddenly became wild and vicious, their blurred edges stretching out rapidly.
Ellen, who had slipped into the shadows, had been waiting for the moment when the Yunmeng Mo finished its teleportation.
“Bone Blade Piercer!”
The skeletal figure emerged from the shadows, and the pitch-black bone blade, wrapped in ghostly blue flames, pierced the Yunmeng Mo from bottom to top.
With a successful strike, Ellen quickly sensed something off about the feel of the bone blade and slipped back into the shadows.
The small Dream Mo on the soft cloud gently turned over as the bone blade struck, expertly avoiding the Pale Fang Soldier’s thunderous attack.
The seemingly shapeless soft clouds absorbed most of the energy wrapped around the bone blade, ensuring that the Dream Mo’s body would not be hit by the residual shockwaves.
However, due to this movement, the Dream Mo, still in its slumber, inevitably delayed the appearance of its dream projection.
“Use Somnambulism!” Lin Fei seemed quite displeased that the Yunmeng Mo had avoided the attack on its own rather than following his command immediately.
The sleeping Dream Mo breathed evenly, indifferent to the Beastmaster’s increased volume. It blew a few sleepy bubbles, and the soft clouds beneath it surged upward, wrapping its body in a protective cocoon.
The figure of the Yunmeng Mo disappeared, replaced by a Somnambulism projection on the battlefield.
It was a massive, spider-like extraordinary creature standing nearly two meters tall, its entire body pure white. The core of its body had a diameter exceeding one meter, and its central area was covered with compound eyes. Eight spider legs rose high, with sharp spikes extending from the joints, each adorned with deadly venom.
Mu Huiyue’s heart skipped a beat. Lin Fei had used a Vibres to counter her.
This was a projection created by the Yunmeng Mo’s Somnambulism, so the investigator’s bracelet didn’t display the corresponding illustrated guide information. However, Mu Huiyue certainly knew the origins of this pet beast.
The mythic race of a regional guardian deity was unique, but many mythic races had related sub-tribes with similar attributes. For instance, the Sun God Phoenix of Dayan had a sub-tribe, the Crimson Flame Birds.
The spiritual symbol of the Nova region, the highest guardian deity Anaros, possessed a sub-tribe belonging to the Pure White Spider evolutionary chain, which included Vibres.
The Vibres, a high-tier Monarch race with dual attributes of Insect and Light, was the intermediate form in this evolutionary chain, equivalent to the Flying Fire Phoenix in the Crimson Flame Birds sub-tribe, and was known as the Light Weaver.
Both the Yunmeng Mo and Lin Fei were clearly familiar with this unique race from the Nova region. The Somnambulism projection was vividly detailed and remarkably lifelike.
Compared to the Crimson Flame Bird, which had only been a distant outline before, this Vibres seemed to truly exist on the battlefield, and even up close, there were no flaws to be found.
This might also be the reason Lin Fei chose the intermediate form of Vibres for the projection rather than the more advanced higher-tier Imperial race evolution.
With the appearance of the Pure White Spider, Lin Fei let out a breath and said, “Form Attachment Unification.”
Although the focus of the first round of clashes had been on the Yunmeng Mo, Mu Huiyue was still closely watching the movements of the Type-One Gusoku.
The Armored Type is the most cutting-edge intelligence-attribute pet beast, and there is little available data on it. Depending on the model, the combat style can vary significantly. The Type-One Gusoku had never appeared in a battle before, so Mu Huiyue could only observe its traits and abilities live during the battle.
Before Lin Fei issued a skill command, the pile of seemingly disordered metal plates remained completely still, allowing the Yunmeng Mo to endure the attack on its own.
As Ellen launched an attack on the Yunmeng Mo, White Fang, using a moonlit shadow clone swap, quietly approached the Type-One Gusoku.
“Shadow Hunt!” Mu Huiyue issued an attack command just before the metal plates could get close to the Vibres projection.
The Frost Night Battle Wolf leapt into the air, transforming into a silver-white afterimage as it pounced on the metal plates, which were connected by energy lines.
Lin Fei’s expression remained unchanged, as if he had anticipated that Mu Huiyue would attempt to launch a sneak attack during this opening.
“Energy Defense,” he said calmly.
The Type-One Gusoku unfolded its two largest metal plates at the front, merging them to form a shield that blocked the front of its body.
The Shadow Hunt hit its target, and the collision of energy caused visible ripples that spread outward with a deafening crash.
The Type-One Gusoku wavered slightly as it floated backward. A massive dent appeared on the shield, but the main body appeared unharmed.
Its energy defense had actually blocked White Fang’s Shadow Hunt!
Mu Huiyue instinctively clenched her fist. In the Beastmaster knowledge she had studied, there was no skill called Energy Defense.
The closest skill was the C-tier defense skill Energy Shield, which was a prerequisite for the Elemental Shield that the Chaos Thundercloud possessed.
A C-tier defense skill couldn’t possibly withstand an A-tier attack skill like Shadow Hunt. This wasn’t a skill; it was a Trait of the Type-One Gusoku.
Mu Huiyue recalled the presentation on Armored Type from the exchange conference. Most Armored Type pets, like the previous auxiliary intelligence-attribute pets, only had one skill: the innate core Form Attachment Unification.
It was the model and traits that determined the differences.
The Type-One Gusoku focused on strengthening the power of its legs and limbs, which applied to its main body as well. The metal plates at the ends possessed immense energy, enough to resist an A-tier attack skill.
Taking advantage of the gap created by the Frost Night Battle Wolf’s strike, the Type-One Gusoku completed its Form Attachment Unification with the Vibres projection.
The metal plates and the massive white spider fully merged, coating its pure white limbs and abdominal core with a layer of lead-gray metallic armor.
Vibres turned its body, and the spider legs seemed to transform into mechanical limbs, continuously smashing onto the ground with a crisp, heavy sound.
It had become even more realistic, showing no signs at all of being a projection created by the Dreamwalking skill.
Watching this scene, Mu Huiyue couldn’t help but feel her eyelids twitch uncontrollably.
The appearance of the giant mechanical spider, along with the core of the internal pure white spider, reminded her of that strange dream she had when she met the little Dream.
At the end of the dream, she had been chased by the mechanical Anaros that covered the entire city’s sky, her life hanging by a thread.
If it hadn’t been for the little Dream using the White Tiger Charm to project that Star Shatter which pierced the heavens, she might have already been a soul lost beneath Anaros’ claws.
The Vibres, covered in mechanical limbs before her, was still far from the true form of the guardian god Anaros, but with the development of the Armored Type intelligence-attribute pets, if an Imperial race Armored Type emerged in the future, wouldn’t the evolved Dreamwalking Yunmeng Mo be able to project that mechanical Anaros from her dream?
That cyber beast-taming world dream, set up to capture the little Dream… could it be related to Lin Fei?
“If you start being surprised now, don’t blame me if your eyes fall out later, Mu Huiyue.” Lin Fei’s gaze passed over the battlefield and landed on the black-haired girl.
Mu Huiyue’s face, filled with uncertain expressions, was very satisfying to him.
Over the past half year, he had made so many sacrifices and gained so much strength, all for the arrival of this moment.
Lin Fei had never gotten over that interrupted battle.
He was unwilling to let a mere freshman beast tamer from a unique world gain the upper hand.
Lin Fei curved his lips slightly, and that gentle, fake smile returned to his face.
“Let’s begin. Let me show you what a real tag team battle looks like.”
“Type-One Gusoku, weave the web.”
The white spider, now adorned with metallic armor, lifted its tail high and began to spit out large amounts of soft, flexible silk.
The Grade A Insect-type Field Skill: Weave the Web was the signature skill of the Vibres lineage. It utilized webs to form a unique space, and it was one of the Advanced Field Skills that led to its classification as a high-level monarch species.
The vast expanse of white spider webs covered the battlefield, forming an inverted, hollow circular dome.
As both were Grade A Advanced Field Skills, the effect of Endless Night Echoes couldn’t fully resist Weave the Web, and the two skills created a fascinating coexistence in the same space.
The moment the web was completed, Vibres sprang up high, clinging to the translucent spider web and swiftly moving into mid-air.
“Venom!” Lin Fei launched his attack.
The white spider’s tail swelled, and a large amount of dark green toxic liquid was sprayed out.
As it released its skill from the air, the battlefield, now enveloped in spider webs, was immediately showered with a rain of deadly venom.
The Puppet Soldier slinked into the shadows, while the Frost Night Fighting Wolf recalled its two Moonshadow clones and cast Frost Blessing Armor to block the overwhelming downpour of venom.
Without needing Mu Huiyue to give any further orders, the two beasts on the battlefield had already instinctively evaded this round of attack.
