Chapter 70
Mu Huiyue removed her tactical glasses, and the view became more natural. She carefully looked at the creature in front of her.
It was an extraordinary creature she had never seen before, with a semi-transparent pale pink body and large, watery, adorable eyes.
Its size was slightly larger than the capacity of a nutrient solution jar, roughly the size that could be held with two hands. The body was elliptical, with a structure at the bottom resembling limbs, very short, and the edges of the ends resembled transparent fish fins in the water, with a beautiful ring of trim.
Mu Huiyue pressed on the unknown creature’s body, and it felt soft, moist, and strangely elastic, quite magical.
What is this thing—jellyfish? Jelly? Slime…?
It seemed to have been squeezed uncomfortably by the nutrient solution jar earlier, but now it had finally come out. The whole ball appeared very happy, waving its four short transparent fins, shaking its body, making it look bigger and more plump.
“Dream mum~” The little creature, which was very fond of being released from the nutrient solution jar by Mu Huiyue, floated around her twice before pouncing and pressing itself against the human girl’s face.
Mu Huiyue felt like her face was being smeared with a cold jelly blob. It felt quite pleasant, but she quickly found it hard to breathe and hurriedly took it off.
“Dream Mum~” The little creature, being held, rubbed against Mu Huiyue’s fingers, still looking very happy.
Mu Huiyue gently stroked it, feeling a bit troubled.
In fact, she didn’t know what to do next.
The smooth operation of capturing the target earlier felt more like a vague instinct.
When she emptied her mind and completely forgot to think, her subconscious would naturally align with the logic and settings of the dream world, becoming an excellent agent on an important mission.
Once her awareness became clear and she was able to think rationally, those dream-like enhancements seemed to disappear, and Mu Huiyue was back to being Mu Huiyue.
The more she tried to think deeply, the closer her state would be to reality.
Right now, she didn’t have a beast control space, her pets weren’t around, and she didn’t have an investigator’s wristband to check the information of the unfamiliar extraordinary creature before her.
She also had no idea what to do next. She didn’t feel like waking up at all. The vague sense of an agent’s mission she had earlier seemed to end after successfully retrieving the target.
“Mm?” It seemed to notice her confusion, and the pink little jelly floated up, waving its short transparent fins, trying to draw pictures for the human girl.
It flew from the bottom to mid-air, made a circle, then another, and finally pointed to a spot, saying, “Dream Mum!”
Mu Huiyue was completely confused. Communicating with an extraordinary creature that wasn’t contracted was quite difficult.
“Dream Mum…” The little jelly in mid-air dropped a little, seeming a bit disappointed. It then thought of a new idea and floated over slowly.
It found Mu Huiyue’s tactical glasses, swallowed them whole, and the large sunglasses were absorbed into its body. The semi-transparent gel-like layer emitted a soft, dreamlike glow.
Then, it spat the sunglasses back out and placed them in Mu Huiyue’s hand.
Mu Huiyue put the tactical glasses on and saw that a new line had been added to the route planning. The starting point was here, and the endpoint was at a distant location outside the city.
The shape of the route between the two points resembled the position the little jelly had just indicated. Mu Huiyue finally understood what it meant.
“You want me to take you there?” she asked aloud.
“Dream Mum!” The little jelly floated up and down, seeming to nod repeatedly.
“Alright, I don’t have anything else to do.” Mu Huiyue patted her pants and stood up.
She wasn’t sure when she would wake up, but helping this cute little creature before the dream ended wasn’t so bad.
The little jelly floated onto her shoulder. Mu Huiyue gently petted it, ready to head out, only to suddenly realize that a crowd had gathered outside the clothing store window without her noticing.
These people were all residents from the nearby streets, as well as shop owners from neighboring stores. At this moment, regardless of age or gender, they were all staring fixedly at the empty display window. Each of their pupils had a bright and eerie red ring.
Mu Huiyue was struck with a chill and quickly changed direction, trying to escape through the back door.
However, she soon realized that the street leading to the back door was also in crisis.
“Suspicious target detected, Team A and Team C, surround and intercept!” someone commanded into a wireless communication device.
Soon, two teams surrounded the closed clothing store. They were wearing professional combat suits similar to Mu Huiyue’s, but their combat abilities were far superior to those of the bodyguards from the ambulance earlier.
Each person carried weapons, and the words “Dream Creature Technology Security” were visible on their backs.
They were the security forces from that building.
In a moment of panic, Mu Huiyue attempted to break through the crowd directly, but it seemed like all her movie-like, graceful combat moves had completely disappeared. Even when she emptied her mind to avoid thinking, her body couldn’t move instinctively.
She jumped high into the air, landing awkwardly in the crowd as if nothing had happened. All the security personnel immediately raised their guns toward her.
Taking advantage of their momentary confusion, Mu Huiyue put all her strength into running as fast as she could.
“Mm…!” The little jelly’s eyes were squinted into a line by the strong wind hitting its face.
Its four tiny fins clung tightly to Mu Huiyue’s tactical harness, as though it had hopped onto a roller coaster, nearly being blown away entirely.
Mu Huiyue slammed on the brakes and darted behind an obstacle on the street, just as two laser shots narrowly missed and landed behind her.
The professional security guards were quicker than her, and it looked like they were about to catch up. Mu Huiyue turned around and saw countless black gun barrels aimed at her.
In that moment, when life and death hung by a thread, she instinctively called out the force she trusted and relied on most.
“Ellen…”
The little jelly on her shoulder emitted a dreamy, soft glow. The shadow beneath her feet suddenly elongated, and her most familiar figure leaped out from the shadow, charging toward the armed crowd in the blink of an eye.
The surprise attack from the shadow caught all the security personnel off guard. Mu Huiyue seized the opportunity to break free from the encirclement and hid in a dead-end corner of a small alley.
Ellen did not return to her shadow, and the beast control space still did not exist.
What had just happened seemed more like a scene she had imagined in her mind, which had then become reality in this dream.
She realized this and turned her head to look at the little jelly on her shoulder, asking, “Can you turn my imagination into reality here?”
“Mm!” The little jelly raised one fin in affirmation, then shook the other fin, as if adding something to her guess.
Mu Huiyue didn’t understand.
However, based on its reaction, she could deduce that this was some kind of dream-related ability, quite similar to the 【Dream Walking】 ability of the Cloud Dream Beast, and perhaps even more advanced, since the jelly was projecting her imagination rather than its own.
She had a subtle feeling that after agreeing to take the little creature to the place it had marked, she had completely detached from the logic and settings of this dream, returning to the reality of Mu Huiyue.
As a result, she probably wouldn’t be able to perform the movie-like agent skills anymore. If the little jelly could help her project her pet briefly, the dangerous journey would become much easier.
Mu Huiyue seriously explained her idea to the little jelly, though she didn’t know how much it understood. However, the little creature waved its transparent fins, appearing very cooperative.
She briefly tried out the little jelly’s projection ability, and the skill limitations seemed about as she had guessed: the more Mu Huiyue was familiar with and could imagine the details of a scene, the more easily it would be clearly and completely recreated in the dream.
By projecting Ellen and Baiya, letting them release their skills, Mu Huiyue only needed to make a simple thought.
For other pets she was relatively familiar with, with a bit of time to concentrate, she could project them completely.
The little jelly seemed to really enjoy interacting with the projections of the human girl, its body constantly emitting soft light as it played happily.
Suddenly, there was a loud explosion at the alley entrance, followed by the sound of many hurried footsteps.
Mu Huiyue’s hiding spot had been discovered once again.
The first to appear at the alley entrance were still the local residents familiar with the area’s layout. Mu Huiyue frowned slightly as she saw the same bright red ring of light appear in their eyes.
That color resembled a powerful ability from the divine mind skill set, Divine Power, which Mu Huiyue suspected was a high-level divine mind skill being used on a large scale. The people in the street had turned into eyes for detection.
She had the little jelly project the appearance of her elemental pet, Chaos Thundercloud.
Having personally experienced the Chaos Thundercloud’s shield and flight, the projection didn’t take much time. The sudden appearance of dark clouds lifted the human girl, carrying her toward the rooftop.
If the people on the street had been turned into eyes by a divine mind skill, it would still be safer to take a route with no one around.
…
…
“Dream Creature Biotechnology” Headquarters Building.
-64F-
Lin Fei looked grimly at the over a thousand small screens on the wall. These were originally part of the building’s internal security surveillance system, but all the signals had been cut off and were now connected to a different interface.
A huge peregrine falcon stood in the center of the interface platform. Its magnificent tail feathers resembled flowing rainbows, so dazzling that it was hard to look away.
This was the second-stage evolution of the Sui Dai Cai Yuan, a pet that had never appeared in reality and wasn’t even recorded in the Bureau of Affairs’ pet encyclopedia.
A high-tier royal species—Seven-Colored Rainbow Falcon.
It possessed an S-class visual talent core skill—Skyward Glimpse, which, in conjunction with “Dream Creature Biotechnology” technology, could extend the skill’s range to the entire city and extract all visual data for analysis.
A massive amount of information flooded in. Lin Fei wasn’t quite used to the technology far superior to reality, and could only rely on his pet’s skill to complete the search.
After several rounds of filtering and extraction, he finally found the person who had hijacked the target.
A figure in black, whose face was blurry and gender indeterminate, was quickly leading the target in a certain direction.
Upon seeing this, Lin Fei’s pupils suddenly contracted.
In the dream, everyone’s faces were clear because it wasn’t a dream he had constructed himself, but rather a unique domain formed by the combined mental energies of hundreds of thousands of people using sleep aids throughout the city.
However, now there was an individual whose face he couldn’t see, someone whose appearance was blurred.
This was an entity that did not follow the logic of the dream world. It was highly likely that, like him, this person was an awake consciousness from the outside world.
Who had infiltrated this dream, and where were they trying to take the target?!
Lin Fei felt an unprecedented sense of anxiety. This vague sense of losing control felt similar to when he nearly lost to Mu Huiyue in their previous confrontation.
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.
This time was different. In the dream world, the Cloud Dream Tapir was an invincible being. Even extraordinary creatures like the Seven-Colored Rainbow Falcon, which didn’t exist in reality, could be directly projected.
In the dream world, whatever he wished for would appear. It was impossible for the target to escape right under his nose.
“Cloud Dream Tapir, get your act together and get to work.”
The small Dream Tapir on the soft clouds looked at the Beast Tamer. Its eyes were a magnificent and profound shade of purple, like some kind of nightmare from the depths of the dream world.
The Cloud Dream Tapir, which was always in a deep, unending sleep in reality, opened its eyes for the first time in the dream world.
It let out a loud gurgling sound. One end of the soft clouds at its base connected to the projected Seven-Colored Rainbow Falcon, while the other end gathered into a new slender shape, linking to the interface of the building’s security system.
With the continuous influx of spiritual energy, the Dream Walking ability began to truly influence everything happening in the dream world.
The building’s security system lit up in red, with countless warning exclamation marks appearing on the holographic screens. However, Lin Fei remained unfazed.
The rogue researcher looked out at the night sky, where dark clouds were gathering.
Failure was not an option for him here.
