However, the man who should have untied the horse’s reins and left didn’t act right away. Instead, he burst into tears.
Yes, he was crying, especially after hearing their words, especially Ying Yue’s.
The big man cried, “I… I wanted to rob you before, but now you don’t care about the past, I…”
He wiped his tears, his voice choked.
Ying Yue was confused. She had never seen such a strong man crying, and didn’t understand why he was so moved when they hadn’t done anything special. She felt lost.
Then, he looked at Zhao Kuo, then Bai Qi, and finally said, “I… I will go up with you!”
He realized the group was not full of “devils,” but “good people.” He felt he could never repay their kindness.
His decision would change his life forever.
Zhao Kuo was surprised by his words.
He looked at the man in disbelief and asked, “Are you sure?”
Bai Qi smiled. It was only now that he truly saw the man and said, “He still has some backbone.”
He added, “If you want to go, hold your knife tightly.”
“And remember, if you can’t kill them, you’ll be the one to die.”
Hearing Bai Qi’s serious tone, the man gripped his knife tighter and swallowed, “I understand.”
Seeing the man had made up his mind, Bai Qi nodded but said nothing more.
After all, for someone who had never seen bloodshed, this was all he could say.
Then Bai Qi turned to look at Ying Yue, who was listening to the conversation, and said, “Miss Ying, stay with me later. Don’t leave.”
Originally, the plan was for Bai Qi to seize the mountain stronghold alone while Zhao Kuo would guard Ying Yue.
But things had changed. Zhao Kuo, angry over the Lakers incident, seemed to have lost his focus. He only wanted to kill those beasts now.
So Bai Qi decided to keep Ying Yue close and take care of her for now.
After Bai Qi said this, Zhao Kuo didn’t argue, as he had in the past. He knew he had a gap compared to Bai Qi.
So, the four people preparing to take the mountain and defeat the beasts began their journey up Chunshan Mountain.
_
In fact, the journey up the mountain was smooth.
Since Black Wind Village was well-known in the five nearby counties, no one dared to approach. So the guards were not strict at all, in fact, they were lax.
At the foot of the mountain, there were only a few cats and dogs guarding the area. Bai Qi didn’t act; he simply told Zhao Kuo and the man to deal with them.
He was helping Ying Yue manage her emotions, saying, “If you’re scared of the scene, just close your eyes.”
Ying Yue shook her head, saying, “I’m not afraid!”
She tried to sound confident, “What Zhao Kuo killed wasn’t a human, but a man-eating monster!”
Bai Qi was surprised, then smiled.
Ying Yue felt nervous from his sudden smile and lowered her voice, asking, “What’s wrong? Did I say something weird?”
“No.” Bai Qi softened his gaze and said, “Miss Ying, that’s very good.”
While they spoke, Zhao Kuo had already killed a few small creatures, kicking their corpses as if venting his anger. One could feel a chill seeing it.
Since the guards at the foot of the mountain had been killed immediately, there was no chance to warn the village. The group moved through the mountain without being discovered.
Bai Qi didn’t fight, just observed while Zhao Kuo killed, taking a few heads now and then.
After some time, Bai Qi asked Zhao Kuo, “Have you calmed down?”
Zhao Kuo replied, “…Almost. But I’m still really angry.”
Bai Qi glanced at him and said, “Now that you’re calm, stay here and protect Miss Ying.”
“I’ll handle the rest of the village.”
Zhao Kuo reluctantly agreed. Bai Qi was a master at quick kills.
Zhao Kuo had killed around a hundred, so he waved Bai Qi away, saying, “Go on, hurry.”
When Bai Qi left, he took a man with him. He felt Ying Yue would have trouble checking the system tasks if someone was present.
After Bai Qi left, Zhao Kuo cleaned up the room, threw the body out, and set it on fire. He then spread out a mat, carefully avoiding any blood stains, and let Ying Yue sit on it.
With his anger subsided, Zhao Kuo chatted again, asking, “How long until Bai Qi is done?”
“It doesn’t matter, but we can guess. Let’s see who’s right.”
“Why hasn’t Bai Qi finished yet? Did something happen?”
As he kept talking, the sky turned from noon to evening. Just then, a familiar electronic sound came.
[It is detected that the subordinate Bai Qi has conquered the first territory for the host. Do you want to check the progress?]
Ying Yue, who had been half-asleep from Zhao Kuo’s talking, sat up straight and answered firmly:
“Yes.”
