Chapter 4
The sudden system sound got Bai Qi and Zhao Kuo’s attention, making them focus on Ying Yue.
Ying Yue was rubbing her forehead, which was a little red from the bump. She tried to get up but felt weak, so she could only flop on the ground. Because she was pretty, this action looked cute instead of foolish.
Seeing her pitiful state, Bai Qi walked over and helped Ying Yue up, or more accurately, “lifted” her.
He lifted the petite girl by the scruff of her neck like a kitten. Before Ying Yue could react, she was placed back on the bed.
Zhao Kuo was a bit disgusted by Bai Qi’s roughness and shouted, “Be gentle with your master’s sister! Bai Qi, do you know how to be gentle with women?”
But as soon as he said this, he fell silent.
He realized that saying “cherishing women” and Bai Qi didn’t really match.
If Bai Qi really cared for women, he wouldn’t be Bai Qi, the Marquis Wu’an of Qin.
However, Ying Yue didn’t mind how Bai Qi lifted her. What she cared about more was one question:
“You… won’t fight again, right?” she asked cautiously.
After Ying Yue spoke, Zhao Kuo felt guilty. He started this conflict and felt shame for being pinned down.
But the real reason he attacked Bai Qi was due to what he read on Bai Qi’s introduction card: a butcher with millions of corpses.
The system wouldn’t make empty statements.
Zhao Kuo remembered that the number of people Bai Qi killed should not reach one million unless it included the 450,000 Zhao troops trapped in Changping.
He felt angry…
Even if the winner is the king, the Zhao army had 450,000 living people.
How could Bai Qi kill them all?
Zhao Kuo lowered his eyes and buried his complicated feelings, answering Ying Yue, “No.”
After his answer, Ying Yue, unaware of his thoughts, breathed a sigh of relief.
She then asked her two “subordinates”: “Should I check the system’s tasks now?”
Bai Qi shook his head slightly, saying, “Leave first.”
It wasn’t safe to stay here long. They needed to leave before anyone outside discovered this was a house of the dead.
After speaking, Bai Qi stepped over to Ying Yue, bent down, and tore off the tail of her long wedding dress with his hands.
He did this before Ying Yue could react, and before she could scream, Zhao Kuo shouted.
“Hey, Bai Qi, what are you doing?”
Bai Qi stayed calm and explained to Ying Yue, “You’re not in good shape and can’t change clothes. This wedding dress is too heavy and hard to move in. I hope you don’t mind.”
Ying Yue was a bit scared by his actions but still trusted Bai Qi. She nodded and said quietly, “I understand.”
Realizing they were about to start a dangerous journey made Ying Yue nervous. She said even more quietly, “I will listen to you.”
But when it came to clothes, Ying Yue noticed something.
She realized that Bai Qi’s clothes were different from the rough ones he wore before. Although they were still made of coarse cloth, compared to his previous civilian outfit, he now wore clothes that looked more like a servant’s.
So she looked at him and asked, “Bai Qi, your clothes…?”
“They were stained with blood, and I didn’t want to scare you, so I changed,” he replied.
Zhao Kuo, hearing this, rolled his eyes. How could he just have blood on his hands? He was probably covered in it. With many people in the mansion and it being “wedding day,” there were likely many guests.
Besides… how did he get this outfit? If I tell him, it would probably scare the young master.
—It must have come from a servant’s body.
Just then, Bai Qi suddenly called Zhao Kuo to pick up Ying Yue, who couldn’t walk because her legs were weak—it was time to leave.
Bai Qi’s command sounded so natural, as if Zhao Kuo was a soldier. This made Zhao Kuo feel upset and angry, and he pointed at Bai Qi, cursing, “Damn it, why am I the one holding her?”
After saying this, Zhao Kuo realized his words might be misunderstood. Worried that Ying Yue might take it the wrong way, he explained, “Sister, don’t misunderstand; I’m not targeting you!”
The issue was why this guy could easily command him.
Bai Qi ignored Zhao Kuo’s attitude. He just glanced at him and walked out the door.
So Zhao Kuo had no choice but to apologize to Ying Yue, saying, “Sister, I’m sorry,” then picked her up and quickly followed.
_
On the way, Zhao Kuo remembered something and asked Ying Yue, “By the way, what’s your name, sister?”
As a subordinate, he didn’t even know his master’s name. This didn’t seem right.
Although her name was on the first page of the card book, that page was blocked for subordinates; only the master could see it.
—This is like when you meet the emperor; you can’t see his face.
Hearing Zhao Kuo’s question, Ying Yue whispered, “Ying Yue.”
She explained her last name: “It’s Ying from Wangkou Yue Nufan.”
“Ying?” Zhao Kuo’s expression changed when he heard this.
“What’s wrong?” Although Ying Yue couldn’t see his face in his arms, Zhao Kuo sounded upset, so she asked.
Zhao Kuo didn’t answer, but Ying Yue heard Bai Qi say, “My former king was named Ying.”
“What a coincidence,” the little girl, unaware of the connection, exclaimed.
Bai Qi only said “hmm” softly and didn’t say more.
Ying Yue didn’t notice anything wrong, but Zhao Kuo, holding her, seemed to sense a hidden story behind this.
_
After passing through several courtyards, Zhao Kuo followed Bai Qi to the backyard of the palace, where several carriages were parked.
Zhao Kuo’s attention was drawn to one of the carriages, not for the carriage itself but for the horses.
—As the saying goes, a hero deserves a good horse. No general dislikes a good horse.
But Bai Qi didn’t let Zhao Kuo think too long. He reminded him to bring Ying Yue to the carriage.
Then, Bai Qi sat at the front of the carriage, acting as the coachman since Zhao Kuo’s fancy robe wasn’t suitable for that job.
Now, I must mention that Bai Qi’s work efficiency is impressive.
In such a short time, he took care of everyone in the palace and prepared the carriage and horses—the best horses he chose from the stable. Ordinary carriages wouldn’t have such good horses.
He also changed into a servant’s outfit to disguise himself as a coachman.
Inside the carriage, once they got on, Zhao Kuo found jewelry and gold and silver items. It was clear Bai Qi had prepared everything.
How impressive! Bai Qi is…
The young man couldn’t help but sigh.
But if he weren’t my rival, being around him would feel safe.
Thinking of this made him shudder, wondering if something was wrong with his mind.
So he quickly changed the subject and said to Ying Yue, “Sister, check the system’s tasks. Now that we’re out, we can start looking.”
“But,” the pretty girl hesitated, “Bai Qi is still outside.”
“Oh,” Zhao Kuo waved his hand, “It’s okay. He can hear us in the carriage.”
Then he complained, “If he can’t hear at this distance, what’s the point of being a famous general? He should just go home and farm.”
Bai Qi: …
Then, at Zhao Kuo’s urging, Ying Yue called up the light screen, found the task page, and clicked on “View” next to “Fight for the World.”
The light screen expanded, showing the complete task page.
【Main quest: Fight for world domination!】
Mission 1: Own a territory of your own.
Mission introduction: As a lord fighting for world dominance, you need your own territory.
The wind rises, and clouds fly as I return to my hometown, spreading my power across the country! My ultimate goal is to compete for the throne and become the king of the world. First, I set a small goal:
Make good use of my subordinates’ wisdom and military force to secure my territory!
Mission Notes: No shortcuts. Buying a private house and obtaining a title deed, which seems like a quick way to complete the mission, is not allowed.
Mission Reward: Ten consecutive draws from the card pool (one character card will be drawn.).
Since Zhao Kuo said that Bai Qi could hear them from inside, Ying Yue deliberately slowed her speech and read the mission details to Bai Qi.
After reading the mission introduction, a moment later, a male voice came from outside the carriage curtain. Bai Qi asked, “Miss Ying, do you know if there are any bandits around the city?”
“I’m sorry…” Even though she wasn’t under the young man’s gaze, Ying Yue immediately lowered her head. The pretty girl looked listless and said weakly, “I don’t know.”
Zhao Kuo, who was beside her, raised his hand and touched the girl’s head. This kind of question was indeed difficult for a girl who lived in seclusion.
After comforting her, Zhao Kuo quickly understood Bai Qi’s intention and said to him outside the carriage, “Are you planning to…?”
Bai Qi spoke in a powerful voice, saying four words that would shock ordinary people: “Become the king of the mountain.”
