Chapter 001 – She’s Very Obedient
Shen Qingli and Jiang Junwen broke up peacefully.
They met in their freshman year of college and dated for five years.
Five years later, Jiang Junwen reunited with his long-lost first love—the one who had left without a word and moved overseas. Now, they were back together, rekindling their old romance.
Meanwhile, Shen Qingli, who had been nothing more than a stand-in, received a breakup fee of twenty million yuan and rolled her suitcase out of the Jiang family’s old estate.
The day she left happened to be a rainy one.
The old housekeeper rushed to hand her an umbrella, sighing sadly:
“Xiao Li, let me have the driver take you.”
Shen Qingli shook her head.
“No need. My dad’s gone to pick up Miss Luo today—he’s busy.”
The housekeeper paused, looking a bit awkward.
Shen Qingli took the umbrella, thanked him politely, and pulled her suitcase into the rain.
—
Her father was the Jiang family’s chauffeur. She was just the daughter of a chauffeur.
Jiang Junwen was the only son of the Jiang family, born into wealth and status—a true heir of high society.
They were never from the same world.
But it just so happened that, at the time, Jiang Junwen’s childhood sweetheart had left without saying goodbye.
It just so happened that Shen Qingli had been accepted into A University and had come to Haicheng, where she met him.
It just so happened that Jiang Junwen was feeling down and rebellious, looking for a way to defy his family—so he decided to pursue the chauffeur’s daughter.
And it just so happened… Shen Qingli liked Jiang Junwen.
And she happened to look a lot like Luo Shuyao.
During yet another argument with his parents, Jiang Junwen ran away from home. Shen Qingli found him in a bar, and he grabbed her hand and said:
“A’Li, be my girlfriend. I’ll protect you.”
That one sentence kept Shen Qingli by his side for five whole years.
For those five years, Jiang Junwen had no one else around him but Shen Qingli.
While Shen Qingli was still dreaming about a future together, Luo Shuyao came back.
One sentence from Luo Shuyao—
“Awen, I was wrong. I regret it.”
—was all it took for Jiang Junwen to lose control.
And it just so happened… that day was their five-year anniversary.
In a lavishly decorated hotel suite filled with romantic flowers and balloons, a live band in suits was just about to start playing.
Jiang Junwen looked at his phone and said to Shen Qingli:
“Something came up. Wait here for me.”
That wait lasted the entire night.
The next day, she received twenty million yuan as a breakup fee.
On the third day, she packed her things and left the Jiang estate.
—
Dragging her suitcase, Shen Qingli first returned to the downtown apartment she had lived in with Jiang Junwen for five years.
She still had many belongings there to collect.
But just as she stepped off the elevator, she saw Jiang Junwen and Luo Shuyao hugging and kissing at the door.
Luo Shuyao whispered,
“Awen, are you still mad at me?”
Jiang Junwen said quietly,
“Yes.”
Luo Shuyao:
“Even if you’re mad at me, you shouldn’t have gone so far as to marry a chauffeur’s daughter. She’s not worthy of you.”
Jiang Junwen chuckled softly and replied,
“I married her to rebel against my parents—because they tore us apart.
And besides… she’s obedient. She listens well. She looks like you.”
She’s obedient. She listens well. She looks like you.
That sentence truly broke Shen Qingli.
She stepped forward.
“Sorry to interrupt.”
Both Jiang Junwen and Luo Shuyao turned to look at her in shock.
Expressionless, Shen Qingli said,
“I’m just here to pack my things. I’ll be out soon.”
She unlocked the door with her fingerprint, then walked into the apartment.
The home where she and Jiang Junwen had lived for five years.
She had personally picked out the furniture, carefully chosen warm-toned carpets and curtains.
Even the flowers and plants on the balcony—she had tended to them with great care.
She only took a few clothes and daily necessities. Then she walked out to the spacious balcony.
She picked up a pot of neon-hued succulent jade dew, and whispered sadly to the plants:
“Sorry. I can’t take you with me.”
Jiang Junwen came in with Luo Shuyao. His face was cold, his voice icy.
“Shen Qingli, don’t ever come back. Get lost.”
Shen Qingli didn’t look at him. She walked straight out without turning her head.
“Got it.”
When she got downstairs, she passed through the plaza.
She sat down on a public bench, cradling that small succulent—
And tears streamed down her face.
Jiang Junwen, if I could do it all over again…
I would never love you.
