Chapter 15: The Adorable Bun Livestreams Second Uncle’s Breakdown – Tune in Now!
Sheng Nanxi wasted no time. Using the system’s navigation, she quickly located Sheng Dehai, who was secretly conspiring with several officials in the hidden chamber of his study.
Having previously studied mechanisms under a master, she instantly noticed another small secret chamber beside the main one.
Without hesitation, she teleported inside and began eavesdropping.
She perked up her little ears but didn’t hear the voices of the Grand Preceptor and the elderly ministers.
They had likely retired after attending the flower appreciation banquet.
The previous day, several court officials had used the banquet as a cover to meet in the second household’s estate, plotting how to entrap the Qin Royal Manor and have it convicted and confiscated. They also planned how to eliminate any remaining Qin faction members afterward.
With their scheme seemingly foolproof, the allied officials were in high spirits. Those still in Sheng Dehai’s study continued drinking.
As the alcohol took effect, their tongues loosened even more.
The conversation drifted further off track as they began discussing post-success rewards, which restaurant to hold their promotion banquet at, and which top courtesans to invite for entertainment…
However, a man seated at the far end of the room remained uneasy. Seeing the others’ nonchalance, he couldn’t help but interject:
“Second Master Sheng, don’t you think it was too quiet at the Qin Royal Manor yesterday?”
“Besides… based on my observations, they even switched their guards at the last minute. The new batch is clearly far more skilled. Don’t you think that’s too much of a coincidence?”
Sheng Dehai, slightly intoxicated, waved him off with an air of dismissal.
“That’s where you’re wrong! The people left in the main household are either old or weak. Of course, it’s going to feel lifeless at night.”
“As for the guards, my third nephew is in charge of them—Sheng Yichen, you know, the capital’s infamous rich wastrel. That kid never plays by the rules. He probably just didn’t like the previous guards and replaced them on a whim.”
“What, do you actually think a brainless playboy like him could see through the Grand Preceptor and Lord Qi’s flawless plan?”
At these words, the room erupted into laughter.
Clearly, none of them believed that the so-called good-for-nothing Sheng Yichen could possibly unravel a scheme they had spent nearly a month crafting.
Seeing that the minor official still looked worried, Sheng Dehai refilled his own cup, teasing:
“Look at him—our dear Wang brother is frowning! It must be because I haven’t been a good enough host.”
“Come, come! I’ll drink as punishment!”
He lifted his glass to down it in one go.
But in the next instant—
A massive bucket filled with kitchen slop appeared out of nowhere and was dumped squarely over his head!
“AHHH—”
“Who dares trespass in my study?! How dare you humiliate me—urgh!“
“Urgh! Hidden guards, where are you?! Some thief has sneaked in! Catch them, now—urgh!“
“Urgh! Servants! Bring me a basin of water, now!”
Sheng Dehai’s head was now sporting a massive bump from the impact. It took him a long time to struggle out of the bucket, only to find his eyes, nose, and mouth completely filled with the unbearably foul slop.
His entire body was drenched, with not a single clean spot left.
The officials who had been drinking and laughing with him moments ago now looked utterly disgusted, keeping their distance.
Barely catching his breath, Sheng Dehai had no time to worry about the intruder.
Because outside, frantic shouts rang through the manor:
“Ahh! Where did the master’s secret scrolls go?!”
“Thief! The ink, brushes, paper, calligraphy, and paintings in the study—everything’s gone!”
“We’re doomed! Even the bookshelves, tables, and chairs have vanished! Even if I were executed, I still wouldn’t be able to repay this loss!”
Sheng Dehai’s heart pounded in terror.
All nausea forgotten, he quickly patted himself down—only to find that everything he had kept on his person…
Was. Gone.
Even the jade pendant hidden in his inner robes and the keys to his private treasury had disappeared!
But those weren’t even the most important things.
His study contained secret scrolls filled with classified information.
If those fell into the wrong hands, it wouldn’t just be him in trouble—the entire faction under the Grand Preceptor could be doomed!
Cold sweat drenched Sheng Dehai as he instantly sprang to his feet, disregarding the filth covering him, and bolted out of the room.
“Where is my chief guard, Chang Feng?! Quickly summon all my Bright and Dark Guards to capture the thief at once!”
“L-Lord… Chief Guard Chang Feng is off duty tonight.”
“Useless! Then have Chang Yun lead the men to catch the thief!”
Sheng Dehai was so furious he nearly fell over. He raised his hand and slapped the servant beside him.
Wiping the filthy water dripping down his face with his sleeve, he stormed out in pursuit.
…
“Someone! The thief ran east!”
“All guards, listen up! Team A-1, follow the shadow! Teams A-2 and A-3, flank from both sides! Find the thief and recover the stolen money immediately!”
…
The Second Branch’s guards were all mobilized.
Meanwhile, Sheng Nanxi used her teleportation ability, huffing and puffing as she ran ahead.
To throw off suspicion, she even hung a black night outfit on a bamboo pole, waving it around as she sprinted.
From a distance, it really did look like a full-grown person in black attire.
She was already close enough to see the corner of Zhang’s warm pavilion when she glanced back—only to realize the bunch of idiots had lost her!
The little milk bun pouted, speechless.
She deliberately made some noise again to lure Sheng Dehai and the guards back onto her trail before dashing toward Zhang’s courtyard.
…
“You bold thief! How dare you run into the Prince’s manor’s rear courtyard?! Under the laws of Southern Qi, this is a capital offense several times over!”
“The shadow is right ahead! Teams A-1, A-2, A-3, charge forward with full force!”
“A bunch of useless fools! How have you still not caught them?! I give the order—forget the rules and formalities! Capture the thief at any cost!”
…
While the front courtyard was in chaos, the rear courtyard remained undisturbed.
Inside Zhang’s warm pavilion, candlelight flickered, and the air was thick with intimacy.
…
“Mm… Feng… Feng-lang, stop fooling around. You… You have no heart at all. You know how important looks are to a girl.”
“Xue… Xue’er is already like this… mm… and you still have the mind to do this?! You’re not even thinking about her at all!”
Chang Feng smirked devilishly and nibbled on Zhang Wanyi’s earlobe.
“Didn’t I promise you? I’ll talk to Commander Zheng. The Imperial Guards aren’t here yet. What’s wrong with keeping me company for a while?”
Zhang Wanyi blushed, silent in tacit consent. But then, she suddenly frowned.
“Hmm… Why is it so noisy outside?”
Chang Feng, caught up in passion, was displeased that she got distracted. He grabbed her chin and turned her back toward him.
“Probably the Imperial Guards coming early to search the Main Branch.”
Thinking of this, he chuckled relaxedly.
“From tonight onward, the Main Branch won’t have any good days left. Let them cry and fuss all they want—it’s only natural…”
Just then, a terrified voice came from outside.
“L-Lord and Madam have already gone to bed. Madam wasn’t feeling well tonight and ordered that no one disturb—”
Before the maid could finish, a loud BANG echoed!
The doors of the warm pavilion were violently kicked open!
A fierce gust of cold wind blasted in, shocking Zhang and Chang Feng completely awake!
When they looked up, they saw dozens of eyes filled with shock, confusion, curiosity, and rage.
And one drenched, filthy-looking man who seemed oddly familiar…
Zhang: !!!
Chang Feng: !!!
Sheng Dehai: ???!!!!!!
