Chapter 41: I Never Lie
“But didn’t you keep saying you were truly pleased with me? Are you not willing to serve me? Or were those words all just to deceive me?”
Pei Ji reached out and twirled a strand of her hair around his finger, his tone dangerous.
They were very close, and his hot breath brushed her ear as he spoke. Jiang Huaiyue bit her lip and switched to a smile: “How could that be? Everything I said before was sincere. It’s just that you never believed me.”
If he knew she had been lying to him all along, would he kill her?
Pei Ji showed a faint smile, knowing she was putting on an act again. “Very good.”
He bent down and bit her lip. Jiang Huaiyue winced softly.
“Why did you bite me?”
She touched her lip and asked loudly.
“You better tell the truth, or I’ll throw you into the snake pit to feed the snakes.” He gently stroked her face with the back of his hand.
Hearing the word “snake,” Jiang Huaiyue shrank in fright. She really wanted to say, “You’re a pervert,” but dared not.
She was most afraid of snakes in her life—just one glance could make her faint.
“What I said is true. It’s just that you were too cold to me before, so I didn’t want to annoy you, which is why I kept bringing up divorce.”
Compared to clarifying things, Jiang Huaiyue thought the most important thing was to keep her life safe. After all, feeding her to snakes was exactly the kind of thing Pei Ji would do.
Seeing her put on a pleading expression, Pei Ji’s eyes deepened: “You must know, I hate liars the most.”
He wanted to see how long she could keep up the act.
“I never lie,” Jiang Huaiyue said sincerely, blinking at him.
Pei Ji sneered inwardly. Someone who lies all the time claims they never lie—how amusing.
But he didn’t care. Whether she liked him or not wasn’t important; she was his anyway.
Even if she had feelings for someone else, he would uproot her eventually.
Seeing him silent, Jiang Huaiyue pressed her hand against his chest and whispered, “Prince, can you get up? I’m almost out of breath.”
His heavy body pressed down on hers; Jiang Huaiyue felt extremely uncomfortable. She thought, well, this position was too likely to spark trouble.
Pei Ji said nothing. Holding the back of her head, he kissed her again. Her body was soft as if without bones, and the sweet scent lingering by her side made her lose all reason.
Jiang Huaiyue pushed him away a few times with hesitation, then convinced herself to enjoy it.
After all, she didn’t have to put in any effort, and since he took advantage of her, why couldn’t she take advantage of him?
They say no matter what situation you are in, you must make use of all available resources to live well.
Besides, she had just said she liked him—refusing now would surely arouse suspicion.
She wrapped her hands around his neck, responding shyly.
Jiang Huaiyue clearly felt Pei Ji’s grip around her waist tighten.
“Gently~” she shivered, her bright eyes moist with tears.
Pei Ji’s arm veins bulged, his deep eyes filled with surging waves. Jiang Huaiyue felt as if she were on the sea, her mind blank, staggering.
Night fell; the stars dotted the sky, but inside the room, it was blazing hot.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the window cracks. Jiang Huaiyue slowly sat up, supporting her sore waist. “Qiuchan.”
As her voice fell, Qiuchan entered carefully and lifted the curtain: “Miss, you’re awake?”
Qiuchan’s gaze unintentionally landed on Jiang Huaiyue’s neck, blushing.
“I want to bathe,” Jiang Huaiyue said weakly.
“Miss, please wait a moment. I’ll prepare it,” Qiuchan replied softly, looking down.
Jiang Huaiyue nodded and leaned on the bedside. “Okay.”
Qiuchan quickly prepared the hot water. After bathing, Jiang Huaiyue sat before the bronze mirror and let Qiuchan help dry her hair.
“Miss, you seem to have become more beautiful,” Qiuchan’s voice came from behind.
Jiang Huaiyue looked up at the spring-like vitality between her brows, knowing the reason. She cleared her throat, “Was I not pretty before?”
“You are beautiful no matter what,” Qiuchan smiled.
“Qiuchan, give me the medicine,” Jiang Huaiyue suddenly remembered and whispered.
Though she had slept with Pei Ji, she couldn’t afford to lose her life.
Qiuchan glanced around cautiously, then carefully took out a small medicine bottle from her waist pouch, opened it, and poured out a small black pill.
“Miss, the doctor said it’s not good to take this long-term,” she said worriedly.
Jiang Huaiyue took it and swallowed it directly. “It’s fine.”
This contraceptive medicine was what she had Qiuchan secretly get from the Chun Tang clinic after arriving at Yunxiang Temple.
“Miss, now you and the prince are husband and wife. Are we still going?”
“Of course not. We’re not husband and wife; he’s just playing,” Jiang Huaiyue said clearly. Pei Ji had no feelings for her.
As for why he slept with her, it was probably lust. After all, men think with their lower halves, no matter how noble they are.
But this was fine; she might not be good at many things, but acting was one thing she was quite good at.
