Besties in a Book: She’s a Widow and I’m Pregnant & Fleeing! Chapter 46

Chapter 46: Don’t Tell Me It’s Just a Mosquito Bite

Early in the lunar month, the Xiangshan royal hunting expedition was underway.

Inside an exquisitely luxurious carriage, Jiang Huaiyue was held tightly in Pei Ji’s arms, who had his hand gripping her waist.

She shifted uncomfortably and said, “Prince, it’s too hot. Please let me go.”

What was wrong with this guy, hugging her everywhere they went — it was so annoying.

Pei Ji glanced at her without saying a word, but his presence was enough to make Jiang Huaiyue freeze and not move.

“Prince, can you teach me to ride a horse later?” she smiled sweetly, trying to curry favor.

“Want to learn horseback riding?” Pei Ji said calmly, pinching the fragrant sachet at her waist.

Jiang Huaiyue nodded: “Yes.”

She wanted to learn so she could run away quickly if needed.

“Then have Fuyao teach you. Don’t run off today,” he said in a low voice.

Hearing this, Jiang Huaiyue sensed something was wrong and asked, “Is there going to be some trouble?”

“With me here, what trouble could there be?” Pei Ji wrapped his arm around her waist, lowered his gaze, and leaned close to her neck and shoulder, inhaling her scent.

His warm breath brushed her ear. Jiang Huaiyue shrank her neck and quietly asked, “Prince, you’re learned and talented, but do you know about poisonous curses?”

Pei Ji’s eyes darkened upon hearing the word: “Why do you suddenly ask about that?”

“I’m just curious, that’s all,” she said, tugging at his sleeve and swaying it.

Seeing her act so coquettishly, Pei Ji smiled faintly: “I’ll have Moying investigate and get a report for you.”

“Thank you, husband,” Jiang Huaiyue said happily, leaning over to plant a kiss on his cheek.

Such a beauty—Pei Ji suddenly pulled her closer and kissed her lips. Jiang Huaiyue was stunned for a moment, then reciprocated.

Moying, driving the carriage, heard the soft sounds and blushed.

His lord was getting more and more shameless.

After a while, Jiang Huaiyue, blushing, tugged at her clothes: “Husband, we have to see people later.”

That scoundrel had bitten her neck all over—how was she supposed to face anyone?

Pei Ji concealed the lust in his eyes and loosened his grip: “Sit down.”

Jiang Huaiyue snorted lightly, got off his lap, and sat on the other side.

“Prince, you’re really cruel,” she muttered, her eyes full of dissatisfaction.

Pei Ji poured some tea and drank: “Seems like the lady likes being held by me?”

“I don’t,” Jiang Huaiyue answered loudly, like a dog with its tail squeezed.

She was perfectly fine sitting on her own; nobody wanted to be hugged by him. She only did it to play along for appearances.

Pei Ji smiled silently, his expression gentle and noble like a refined young gentleman—hard to tell he had just done something so wicked to her.

Xiangshan was a royal hunting ground. After the carriage stopped, she and Pei Ji got off one after another.

Looking around, surrounded by mountains in the distance, the scenery was stunning, and it immediately lifted her spirits.

After joining the others in greeting Jiang Jingchen and listening to his speech, Jiang Huaiyue finally found time to leave.

She had Qiuchan inquire about Su Xiangwan’s camp and then went to find her.

Upon arriving, she turned to Qiuchan and Fuyao: “You two wait outside. I’ll speak with the general’s wife and come out.”

“Understood,” they replied in unison.

Jiang Huaiyue lifted the curtain and entered, seeing Su Xiangwan sitting by a low table with exquisite snacks and tea.

“I knew you’d come. Have a seat!” Su Xiangwan smiled at her.

Jiang Huaiyue sat down without ceremony: “I knew you wouldn’t be late either.”

She took a sip of tea and casually picked up a snack to eat.

Su Xiangwan poured some more tea for her, then suddenly looked up and noticed her neck.

“Don’t tell me those are mosquito bites.”

Jiang Huaiyue cleared her throat and didn’t bother hiding it: “I slept with Pei Ji.”

“How did you sleep with him?” Su Xiangwan’s expression grew complicated.

This situation was getting crazier and crazier. What on earth was going on between these two?

“He used me as the antidote for his herbal medicine.” Jiang Huaiyue finished the last bite of her snack and showed a helpless expression.

Su Xiangwan: “…………”

“Well, there was no other choice, just consider it a one-time thing.” Luckily, Pei Ji was handsome. If he were ugly, she really wouldn’t have done it.

“You’re eating quite well.” Su Xiangwan closed her eyes, feeling a bit helpless.

Mentioning that, Jiang Huaiyue finally opened up: “What’s good about it? His skills are terrible.”

“Aren’t men supposed to be naturally good at it?” Su Xiangwan said, recalling all the novels she’d read—men always seemed to be naturally talented.

Jiang Huaiyue smirked: “That’s fake. This wasn’t the first time, and you’ll find out soon enough.”

Su Xiangwan was speechless; how was she supposed to know?

“Are you still going to run?”

“Of course I have to run. Otherwise, your general husband is about to die, right? Let’s leave on the day of his funeral.”

Jiang Huaiyue thought for a long time and felt that day would be a great opportunity.

Su Xiangwan nodded: “I have no objections, but do you think you can really run?”

She was always a bit worried.

“Even if I can’t run, I have to try. I can’t keep pretending in front of Pei Ji every day. Acting like I like him is exhausting.”

Besides, he was suspicious. Jiang Huaiyue had to stay on edge all the time, afraid he’d figure out she was faking it.

“Yueya, sometimes when you get too deep into acting, it’s hard to come out.” Su Xiangwan softly reminded her.

As the saying goes, it’s easy to act but hard to stop acting. She worried Jiang Huaiyue would get trapped in her own performance.

Jiang Huaiyue burst out laughing: “I’m telling you, Wanwan, you have to trust me. When it comes to life or death, I know what I want.”

As the saying goes, life is precious, love isn’t worth much; for freedom, love must be cast aside.

“As long as you’ve thought it through. Then it’s settled. On the day Xiao Qingrong’s funeral, we leave.”

Su Xiangwan said seriously.

Jiang Huaiyue nodded, then took several books from her sleeve and placed them on the table.

Su Xiangwan glanced at them: “What’s this?”

“My novels. You can take them to a bookstore and see if they accept submissions.” Jiang Huaiyue raised an eyebrow.

Su Xiangwan skimmed through and smiled: “Not bad.”

“Of course. Who do you think I am? I even have some music scores. If someone wants them, I’ll sell those too.” Jiang Huaiyue had been messing around while stuck in the story, thinking she might as well make some use of her clever brain.

“Alright, I’ll look into it when I get back.” Su Xiangwan carefully put the things away.

After chatting, Jiang Huaiyue linked arms with her: “How about we go hunting together? I’ll also learn how to ride a horse.”

“Okay.” Su Xiangwan stood up and left the tent with her.

In the forest, the smell of blood spread. Pei Ji sat upright on his horse, while Mo Ying and his men swiftly slaughtered the black-clothed attackers.

“Prince, it’s all taken care of.” Mo Ying said, holding his sword. Pei Ji glanced disdainfully: “Send the bodies over to Jiang Jingchen.”

“Yes.” Mo Ying waved his hand, and the other dark guards quickly carried the corpses away.

The forest instantly returned to silence, with birds chirping on the branches.
