Chapter 53: The Princess’s Husband Can
“Hmm, only this way can I truly leave,” Su Xiangwan replied softly.
Just as Xiao Qingrong died, she would fake her death to escape, making others think she had died for him. That way, no one would suspect her.
“But Miss, can we really leave successfully?” Ning Xiang wondered if the plan would go as smoothly as they hoped.
To be honest, Su Xiangwan wasn’t sure either: “Do what you can and leave the rest to fate. Don’t be afraid.”
More than herself, she was worried about Yueya — whether she could escape successfully right under Pei Ji’s nose.
After all, escaping from the Prince’s mansion was much harder than fleeing the general’s residence.
In the following days, Pei Ji left early and returned late every day. Jiang Huaiyue wandered around the mansion after meals daily, thoroughly familiarizing herself with the layout.
The seven-day deadline was approaching, but Jiang Huaiyue made Qiu Chan visit the Rejuvenation Hall several times.
She still hadn’t met the doctor assigned to her and sighed — well, it was a transaction after all; if the medicine worked, great, if not, there was nothing to be done.
She had Qiu Chan buy some sedatives from the Rejuvenation Hall because if they wanted to leave, they’d need to get rid of Fuyao. Without her, she wouldn’t be able to escape.
Back at the mansion, Jiang Huaiyue personally made some snacks every day in the small kitchen, nominally letting Fuyao and Qiu Chan taste-test them. Fuyao was cautious at first but gradually ate freely.
Just as everything was set, an imperial decree came — Jiang Jingchen wanted to see her.
Jiang Huaiyue did not want to go at all, but there was no choice; she eventually went.
She rode a carriage into the palace, with Eunuch Yu leading her to the imperial study.
After entering, she looked up and saw two figures sitting by the window playing chess — Chu Nanxi and Jiang Jingchen?
The handsome man and beautiful woman made quite a pleasing sight. Jiang Huaiyue bowed, “Yunhe greets elder brother.”
Jiang Jingchen looked over, “Stand up.”
“Thank you, elder brother.” Jiang Huaiyue stood, her eyes resting on Chu Nanxi.
She actually felt some sympathy for the heroine. Recently, gossip about her elder brother had spread like wildfire!
She hadn’t expected this male lead to be a two-timer — truly a tough situation.
Chu Nanxi nodded to her, “Greetings, Princess.”
“Miss Chu, you’re too polite,” Jiang Huaiyue smiled lightly.
Then she looked at Jiang Jingchen, “Your Majesty, you and the princess please talk; I will take my leave.”
Jiang Jingchen’s voice was gentle, “Alright, you may leave.”
Chu Nanxi bowed. As she walked forward, she stumbled a bit, and Jiang Huaiyue instinctively stepped forward to steady her.
“Xi’er, are you alright?” Jiang Jingchen quickly stood and came over, concerned.
“I’m fine, thank you, Princess.” Chu Nanxi thanked her.
Jiang Huaiyue shook her head, “Be careful, Miss Chu.”
After Chu Nanxi left, Jiang Huaiyue clenched the small bottle in her hand, her heart stirred turbulently.
Just now when she helped her, Chu Nanxi had slipped a small bottle into her hand, though Jiang Huaiyue didn’t know what it contained.
She quietly pocketed it, composed herself, and asked, “I don’t know why elder brother called me here.”
Jiang Jingchen looked up, expressionless: “How are things between you and Pei Ji?”
“Not good. He doesn’t like me at all.” Jiang Huaiyue pursed her lips. Thinking about the male lead’s scheme to drug Pei Ji, she felt speechless.
A good male lead resorting to such filthy tricks day after day.
“You should try hard to bear his child. Then he naturally won’t treat you badly,” Jiang Jingchen said lightly.
Jiang Huaiyue’s eyes widened in disbelief. She wanted to say, “Are you serious?”
She was just a newlywed girl — was she supposed to have a child with that old man Pei Ji?
This body had just recently been formed, and although Pei Ji was not old, he was exactly eight years older than the original owner.
“Imperial Brother, this isn’t something I can decide,” she said, twitching the corner of her mouth.
Jiang Jingchen replied, “Then figure it out.”
If there were a child, he was certain Pei Ji wouldn’t ignore the life and death of his own wife and child.
Jiang Huaiyue muttered inwardly, What a big-headed fool, a complete lunatic—no need to bother with him.
“I understand. Imperial Brother, is there anything else?”
“What has Pei Ji been doing lately?” For some reason, Jiang Jingchen always felt uneasy, even though logically everything was progressing well.
Jiang Huaiyue rolled her eyes silently—Isn’t he so capable? Why doesn’t he just investigate himself?
“Nothing special, just the usual.”
After hearing this, Jiang Jingchen was silent for a moment, then said, “Understood. You may leave.”
“Yes.” Jiang Huaiyue breathed a sigh of relief—she was eager to leave and had no interest in staying with him.
After leaving the imperial study, she saw Chu Nanxi sitting in a nearby pavilion and decided to approach her.
“Miss Chu.”
Hearing the voice, Chu Nanxi turned around. “Princess.”
Jiang Huaiyue looked at her gentle brows and eyes and was about to ask about the thing she had just slipped her when Chu Nanxi said,
“You want to ask what I gave you, Princess, right?”
Chu Nanxi’s eyes smiled softly as she quietly watched her.
“What do you mean, Miss Chu?”
After she asked, Chu Nanxi said three words: “Huichun Hall.”
Huichun Hall? Jiang Huaiyue looked sharply at her—could it be that doctor was her?
No wonder she felt her voice was familiar when she first heard it last time.
But the script never mentioned Chu Nanxi having medical skills—what was going on? Everything was completely messed up.
“Miss Chu can do medicine?”
Chu Nanxi curled her lips slightly, calmly saying, “A little.”
“So what you gave me was the maternal poison,” Jiang Huaiyue’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Could it be that Chu Nanxi came to the palace this time just to get this maternal poison? But if so, knowing Jiang Jingchen’s nature, even if he liked Chu Nanxi, he wouldn’t just hand this over to her.
So, she must have stolen it. Jiang Huaiyue sighed—this female lead really was the type to handle big matters.
“Yes, I have fulfilled the promise I made to the Princess.”
To find the maternal poison, she had deliberately approached Jiang Jingchen these days; luckily, her effort wasn’t wasted—she finally found it in Longqian Palace.
Jiang Huaiyue clenched the bottle containing the maternal poison and asked, “What exactly do you want me to do, Miss Chu?”
She was curious what Chu Nanxi wanted her to do since she didn’t think she could help much.
“I need the Princess to help me cancel this marriage,” Chu Nanxi’s eyes gazed at the shimmering lake surface, speaking calmly.
“Miss Chu, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but you’re overestimating me. How could I have that kind of ability?” Jiang Huaiyue smiled awkwardly.
She was a powerless, unfavored princess—how could she have the power to cancel a marriage?
Besides, isn’t this the official couple? So why did she look so disdainful of Jiang Jingchen, even though he was indeed quite despicable?
Since coming to this world, she had met a few men and felt like any one of them was better than Jiang Jingchen.
Chu Nanxi’s eyes lifted slightly: “The Princess can’t, but the Princess’s husband can.”
The Regent held supreme power over the court; a small marriage matter could be easily annulled if he was willing to help.
