Chapter 35
Long Yu Jiao wanted to hide, but there was nowhere to hide in this room. She didn’t have the heart to look for anything, her fingernails digging into her flesh. Her mind raced, desperately trying to figure out how to explain her presence here!
The more anxious she became, the less she could think.
Footsteps were already at the door. Long Yu Jiao hurriedly hid behind the door, closing her eyes, ready for someone to enter…
Suddenly.
The footsteps seemed to turn back in the opposite direction.
Long Yu Jiao let out a long sigh of relief, a drop of sweat hitting the floor. She realized she was already drenched in cold sweat from fear.
Just as she began to relax a little.
The footsteps drew near again.
Long Yu Jiao was annoyed, wondering why they wouldn’t just leave. She gritted her teeth, her heart, which had just calmed down, was now racing again.
The more nervous she was, the more sensitive her hearing seemed to become.
Long Yu Jiao felt the person approaching the door, about to open it…
The iron ring on the door made a sound, a ray of sunlight shone in. Long Yu Jiao ducked to the side, this moment was no less than a slow, agonizing torture for her.
“Xu Yin! What are you doing?!”
“Don’t be lazy!”
A furious voice came, it couldn’t be anyone but Old Lady Lu!
The voice at the door stopped abruptly. Xu Yin glanced at Old Lady Lu, who was panting from the heat as she entered, and kicked the door, saying unhappily, “Got it!”
The wooden door was kicked open halfway, hitting Long Yu Jiao. The pain made her close her eyes, but she was also relieved that she was behind the door panel, hidden from Xu Yin’s view.
“Hurry up and pour me some water! I’m dying of thirst.”
“Where’s Yu Jiao? I told the Captain…”
Old Lady Lu’s voice was loud, Long Yu Jiao could hear everything she said clearly from inside the room. She couldn’t stay here any longer, she had to find a chance to get out.
Listening to Xu Yin’s footsteps gradually fading away.
Long Yu Jiao almost collapsed on the floor.
Xu Yin went into the kitchen and saw Shen Wu with a gossipy look on her face. “As you said, I scared her. She’ll probably be afraid to do something like that for a while. I could hear her terrified breathing from outside the door.”
Shen Wu listened to Xu Yin’s words, only regretting that she wasn’t the one who went to scare Long Yu Jiao.
Old Lady Lu came into the kitchen to drink water, neither of them spoke.
Seeing Xu Yin, who was burning firewood with a black face, and then looking at Shen Wu, whose expression was also tense, “You two, don’t fight. Don’t let your fighting get in the way of cooking.”
“Who burns the fire and then goes back to the room?”
Shen Wu was happy, her brain filled with misinterpretations. She looked at Old Lady Lu, “Mother, I want to eat rice!”
Rice was a fine grain, ordinary families couldn’t afford to eat it more than a few times a year. Old Lady Lu said, “Want to eat rice? Do I look like rice to you?”
Shen Wu seriously looked at Old Lady Lu, “No, you look older than rice.”
Old Lady Lu…
“I don’t have time for you, where’s Yu Jiao?” She said, holding the bowl and coming out, “Yu Jiao!”
Long Yu Jiao had already taken the opportunity to come out, covered in sweat. She forced a smile at Old Lady Lu, “Mother!”
Old Lady Lu saw the direction she came from and asked curiously, “Why did you come out from there? You’re all sweaty.”
“I was just walking around, seeing if I accidentally dropped the photo at home.”
The sweat was cold sweat from fear. Long Yu Jiao forced a smile, “I wanted to find the photo, so I’ve been looking for it.”
Old Lady Lu didn’t suspect anything. “It’s not easy for you to come from the city to the countryside. It’s not easy to see your parents once. I know that photo is important to you, but don’t worry. I’ve already told the Captain. When he gets off work later, he’ll help you call out. Maybe someone found it.”
Old Lady Lu was very patient and empathetic towards Long Yu Jiao, but Long Yu Jiao knew in her heart that it wasn’t about the photo at all. She was just frustrated.
But she couldn’t get angry at Old Lady Lu. “Thank you, Mother. It’s all thanks to you.”
During lunch, everyone was eating happily. This “Di San Xian” (a dish of potatoes, eggplants, and peppers) tasted different from what others usually made.
Everyone was burying their heads in their food when suddenly a buzzing sound of a loudspeaker came from outside. Everyone subconsciously looked up, then they heard the Captain clear his throat and shout –
Everyone, if anyone has found Long Yu Jiao’s photo, the one with her parents on it, please return it to Long Zhi Qing at the Lu family!
If anyone has seen Long Yu Jiao’s photo, if anyone has found it, please return it to Long Zhi Qing at the Lu family!
Whoever found Long Zhi Qing’s photo in the mountains, please return it…
These words were repeated three times. Everyone at the dinner table looked at Long Yu Jiao.
Especially Lu Lao Wu, “Yu Jiao, did you lose something?”
Long Yu Jiao nodded.
Lu Lao Wu thought for a moment, “Your photo has always been in your wallet, how could it suddenly be lost?”
Long Yu Jiao frowned, but she had to come up with an explanation. “I missed my parents, so I took it out to look at it. I forgot to put it back when I had something to do.”
This explanation wasn’t unreasonable.
“When we’re not so busy, apply for a leave to visit your family. Our marriage should also be put on the agenda. We’ll tell your parents together then…”
Long Yu Jiao’s mind was filled with the disappearance of her wild ginseng. Listening to these words, she was impatient.
As the one who took the ginseng, Shen Wu was happy while eating, her eyes and eyebrows filled with smiles.
Lu Xuan heard the loudspeaker’s announcement about something being lost in the mountains, and he was so anxious. He glanced at his wife, thought for a moment, and the corners of his lips curled up for a second.
After finishing their meal, Shen Wu returned to the bedroom. Even though she had tried her best to restore the room, it was still obvious that someone had been in there. For example, the pillowcase with the mandarin ducks on it was put on backwards.
Lu Xuan entered the room and saw Shen Wu tidying up the things that had been turned upside down. “That ginseng, it’s Long Yu Jiao’s.”
Although it was a question, his tone was very certain.
Shen Wu had told him last night, but she had omitted that part. But now it was obviously exposed. He probably guessed it at the dinner table and didn’t expose her.
Shen Wu nodded, “Let’s get this straight, I don’t get along with her. As for how I don’t get along with her, I can’t tell you yet!”
“But you’re my man, you can’t take sides with others, got it?” Shen Wu stared at Lu Xuan with wide eyes, her eyes slightly red.
She looked like she was going to make a scene if he took sides with another woman.
“I haven’t said anything yet.” Lu Xuan sighed, “I’m not taking sides with anyone else, I’m on your side.”
“You have a good personality, you wouldn’t do this for no reason.”
Good personality? Shen Wu thought it was wrong, but she was happy to hear the compliment. She flattered Lu Xuan, “Third Brother, you’re tired too. You didn’t get a good rest last night, and you went to work again today. Take a rest.”
As she spoke, Shen Wu pulled his arm and patted his arm, kneaded his shoulders.
He was indeed sleepy.
There were soft hands tapping on his body, then kneading, like a tickle, a tickle in his heart. Lu Xuan didn’t feel so sleepy anymore. He thought about what he wanted to do in the morning but didn’t, so he pulled her into his arms. When she struggled to move, his big hand clasped her waist.
Shen Wu looked at him in confusion.
She was naturally alluring, and this kind of confusion and obedience, coupled with the redness under her eyes that hadn’t subsided, made people want to bully her fiercely –
