Chapter 25: Where Do You Live?
This day, at the end of the banquet, Fu Yun gave Lu Manman a very expensive set of jewelry as a welcome gift.
A teardrop-shaped emerald was embedded in a diamond necklace, sparkling brilliantly. There were also matching rings and earrings, each worth tens of millions.
Shuangxu had seen this set of jewelry in her wedding photo with Shen Changyuan. It was what she wore on her wedding day.
“This was a gift from Ayu’s grandmother when I married Changyuan. Now I can finally pass it down to you.”
Giving a family heirloom to Lu Manman before they were officially engaged showed how much Fu Yun recognized and valued her future daughter-in-law.
The Lu family was indeed very surprised. Lu Manman was overwhelmed with joy, and she immediately got up and hugged Fu Yun’s neck, acting cute: “Wow, Auntie, you’re so kind to me! Should I call you Mom now? Would that be too forward?”
Fu Yun was almost bursting into laughter.
Lu’s mother laughed and chided her: “You, you’re so shameless.”
“What am I ashamed of? I’m so happy I can’t even contain myself.” Lu Manman immediately took off the necklace from her neck. “This necklace is so beautiful, Ayu, help me put it on.”
Shen Yu took the necklace and helped her put it on.
Lu Manman’s happiness was evident, her eyes shining like stars. The elders all had a look of relief.
Shuangxu sat across the table, like she was in the audience of a stage, watching a happy play under the spotlight that had nothing to do with her.
Fu Yun and Lu’s mother both praised her for how good she looked wearing it. Lu Manman specifically asked Shuangxu again: “Xiao Jiu, does it look good?”
Shuangxu said, “It looks good.”
Lu Manman smiled with her eyes shining: “If you say it looks good, then it really looks good.”
Perhaps witnessing your rival’s happiness makes it even more beautiful.
Shuangxu thought, I should have said it didn’t look good and made her angry.
Seeing this, Lu’s mother thought they were close: “You two really get along well.”
“We’re the same age,” Lu Manman said, “We have a lot in common.”
Shuangxu didn’t think they had anything in common.
Their life paths were completely different, each living in a different period of Yancheng. Lu Manman had the love of her parents, which she didn’t. She had the fear of being abandoned, which Lu Manman had never experienced or understood.
The only thing they had in common was probably their similar taste.
After the banquet, they left Wangchun Tower. Shen Yu and Lu Manman walked ahead.
Lu Manman held Fu Yun’s arm and acted cute, calling her “Auntie” sweetly, making Fu Yun smile.
Shuangxu walked behind, with He Tingzhou in front of her.
He Tingzhou had his hands in his pockets and walked slowly, gradually falling behind the others.
On the winding corridor, taking advantage of the fact that the people in front couldn’t hear them, Shuangxu thanked him: “Brother Tingzhou, thank you for your help today.”
She had worn the clothes, so He Tingzhou shouldn’t want them back.
“How much was your shirt?” she asked sincerely, “Or I’ll buy you a new one.”
He Tingzhou looked over: “Then you’ll have a reason to keep this one?”
“…Why would I keep your clothes?”
“That’s for you to answer,” He Tingzhou’s voice was light and lazy, “What do you want to do with my clothes?”
“I’m not that perverted.” Shuangxu felt like she was numb, and soon she might accept that she was a toad.
“Then I’ll wash it and give it back to you.”
On the way home, Fu Yun looked at the completely transformed clothes on Shuangxu, no longer resembling a cheongsam.
“Where did you get it in such a short time?”
“Borrowed it.” She answered vaguely.
“If it was just a normal meal, bumping into each other would be fine. But today is special, and I feel sorry for making you uncomfortable.” Shen Changyuan’s tone was apologetic.
“It’s okay.” Shuangxu’s expression was calm, “It’s good that it didn’t affect everyone’s mood.”
“You and Manman have similar taste, it’s such a coincidence that you wore the same thing.”
Shuangxu smiled and said nothing.
After returning home, she sent He Tingzhou’s shirt to the dry cleaners. She originally wanted to ask Shen Yu for his WeChat, but after thinking about it, she went to Yue Zifeng instead.
Yue Zifeng asked: “Why do you want your Brother Tingzhou’s WeChat?”
Shuangxu made up a half-truth: “Last time we had dinner at Wangyue Tower, he left his clothes behind, and I’m returning them to him.”
Yue Zifeng knew about the dinner at Wangyue Tower between the Shen and Lu families. He didn’t care and said: “Just throw it away. Your Brother Tingzhou’s clothes are all disposable, he never wears them twice.”
She could throw it away, but she couldn’t let this bullfrog relative get away with it.
Shuangxu said: “It’s not good for me to throw it away, let him throw it away himself.”
Yue Zifeng forwarded He Tingzhou’s business card: “I’ve already told him, you can just add him.”
He Tingzhou’s profile picture was a piece of water, clear and sparkling. Like the sea in the Maldives, a very pure blue.
It was completely different from his own temperament.
Shuangxu sent a friend request, and it was quickly accepted.
[Brother Tingzhou, I’ve washed your shirt, how do I return it to you?]
He Tingzhou replied concisely: [Bring it over]
Shuangxu: [Then I’ll deliver it to your company tomorrow morning]
He Tingzhou: [Trying to spread rumors with me, huh? Should I hold a press conference for you and buy some articles to announce it to the world]
He must have been hit on by countless women to be so sensitive.
Shuangxu could only say: [Then I’ll deliver it to your house, where do you live?]
He Tingzhou sent a location: [Bring me a cake]
It seemed like he wanted her to deliver it right now.
She was indebted to him for his help, so she didn’t complain.
She didn’t know He Tingzhou’s taste, but he seemed to like blueberry mousse. She found a nearby store and bought one–>>
One.
The address He Tingzhou sent her was a villa in Yanxi. When Shuangxu arrived, the entire villa was brightly lit, but eerily quiet, not a single sound.
The door opened automatically. She walked in, carrying the cake and clothes. The 6-meter-high living room was spacious and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing a neatly trimmed lawn. There was a large swimming pool outside, filled with water, reflecting the courtyard lights.
There wasn’t even a maid in the house. Shuangxu didn’t want to wander around, so she sat in the living room and waited for a while. She was about to send He Tingzhou a message saying she had delivered the things and would leave.
Before she could finish typing, she heard lazy, dragging footsteps coming from upstairs.
He Tingzhou seemed to have just finished showering, wearing a black round-neck sweatshirt and casual pants, his short hair still damp, the relaxed feeling of being at home softening the sharpness of his aura.
“Brother Tingzhou.” Shuangxu stood up and greeted him, only to see a Doberman with erect ears following behind him.
She wasn’t afraid of dogs, but such a physically robust adult carnivorous large animal couldn’t help but make her nervous.
The Doberman is a fierce breed in itself, and He Tingzhou’s seemed particularly strong, probably weighing as much as her.
He Tingzhou walked over, and the Doberman followed.
He Tingzhou sat down on the sofa to Shuangxu’s left, opened the cake, and started eating with a fork, saying, “Sit.”
Shuangxu was about to sit down when He Tingzhou said, “I’m talking about the dog.”
“…Oh.” Her butt was frozen in mid-air, neither sitting nor standing.
Just as she was about to leave, she saw the Doberman pacing around the coffee table, coming to her right and sitting down.
The dog looked serious and imposing, staring at her without moving.
Shuangxu’s body was a little stiff, she comforted herself, thinking that domestic dogs are usually well-trained and won’t bite people.
But it’s hard to say, He Tingzhou himself is not a good person… No, what she meant was, He Tingzhou isn’t a good person, so what kind of good dog could he have.
She stared at the Doberman, and the dog stared at her. After a moment of confrontation between the two, she couldn’t hold back.
Just as she was about to give in and look away, the dog came closer and sniffed her, and then its tongue licked her hand.
“Ah!” Shuangxu almost jumped up, instinctively moving a big step towards He Tingzhou.
