Chapter 64: Talk to Me
“I’m deaf,” Shuangxu said rebelliously, probably because she had lost face so much today.
He Tingzhou directly held her waist and lifted her off the ground. Shuangxu exclaimed, “What are you doing?”
He Tingzhou placed her on the nearby counter, his hands supporting her on either side of the table edge. He looked down with cold, sharp eyes, “Which ear is deaf? Let me see.”
He trapped her in a small space. The marble countertop was hard and cold. Shuangxu’s body instinctively leaned back, her hands pushing against the countertop to move back.
There was a row of bottles behind her, and she accidentally knocked one over. It rolled for a bit, and He Tingzhou didn’t help or look at it. He let it fall off the edge, shattering with a loud bang.
Shuangxu’s nerves trembled from the crisp sound.
“You’re not deaf,” He Tingzhou said with a hint of sarcasm, “I see your hearing is excellent.”
Shuangxu took a deep breath. He was such an arrogant prince. He had problems, and others had to answer him.
“Don’t you already know? Your cousin is very bothered by my existence, so I find a man to date to prove that I don’t have any feelings for my brother. Everyone will be happy then. Is that okay?”
She was a little annoyed. All her emotions were bottled up here. After saying this, she wanted to push him away and get down.
She couldn’t move.
He Tingzhou looked down at her, “Then talk to me.”
Shuangxu’s expression of tolerance instantly turned into shock. She was stunned, “What?”
“Do you need me to buy you a hearing aid, little deaf one?” He Tingzhou pinched her ear and pulled it outwards, saying word by word clearly, “Talk to me. Did you hear me?”
She heard him, but she couldn’t understand.
Shuangxu felt awkward everywhere. She pushed his hand away with the back of her hand, “Why?”
“You’re not lacking a man,” He Tingzhou leaned on the countertop, looking casual, “It’s just a coincidence that I happen to be a man.”
There were countless men in the world, and He Tingzhou was the most uncontrollable and dangerous one. How could she be so foolish to use him as a smokescreen?
Besides, how could he be so kind?
“What are you trying to trick me with again?” Shuangxu’s eyes were filled with suspicion, “I have a boyfriend, my godmother will be relieved, your cousin will be relieved too. It’s good for everyone. You don’t need to mock me. This has nothing to do with you.”
He Tingzhou said with a straight face, “How can it have nothing to do with me? It concerns my cousin’s happiness. Shouldn’t I, as her cousin, make some contribution?”
Contribute what? Contribute by being her shield?
Shuangxu was almost persuaded by his logic, “These are two different things.”
“Why are they two different things?”
Shuangxu wanted to reason with him, but before she could open her mouth, she collided with those dark, deep eyes.
He stood with his back to the light, and Shuangxu was enveloped in his shadow. For a moment, she felt like she was being drawn into a deep, unknown vortex.
The words on her lips were forgotten. She couldn’t remember what she was going to say.
A certain kind of attraction occurred in their eyes. He Tingzhou’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and his tiger’s mouth clamped down on her jaw, lifting her face slightly.
Shuangxu’s scalp suddenly tingled. She quickly turned her head away, avoiding his hand.
She swallowed and found her calm voice, “It’s better not to involve you in this kind of thing. It will cause unnecessary misunderstandings, and it will be troublesome to explain later. I don’t want our relationship to become more complicated.”
She just wanted to find someone to be a shield, and this person could be many men, but not He Tingzhou.
If she dragged He Tingzhou into this, it would be a different story. Things would be out of her control.
How much power did she have to use the He family’s prince as a shield?
“What kind of relationship do we have?” He Tingzhou asked.
Shuangxu said, “You are my brother’s friend, and also Feixue’s client.”
He Tingzhou looked at her for a while, then slowly straightened up. He took his hand away from her side and stepped back from her.
He picked up the cigarette pack on the table, took out a cigarette, bit it, and lit it with a lighter. He casually threw it back on the table.
He took two puffs, his voice, tinged with nicotine, was as light as water, “Let’s go, I’ll take you back.”
“I called a ride-sharing service.” Shuangxu jumped down from the counter herself.
He Tingzhou glanced at her, said nothing more, picked up his coat from the back of the chair, opened the door, and walked out.
The ride-sharing driver was a quiet woman who said very little. All the way back to Songming Road No. 9, the motion sensor light in the entrance hall automatically turned on.
Shuangxu took off her shoes, put on her slippers, walked through the empty living room, went into the bedroom, and collapsed onto the bed.
She hadn’t drunk much, but her mind was in a mess. One moment she thought of Fu Yun, the next she saw Wei Qian’s shrewd face.
He Tingzhou…
Did he want to kiss her then?
How could that be? Maybe she misunderstood his signal again.
When Shuangxu asked Shu Yang if she had any suitable single male friends, Xiao Liao was shocked, “What?! You need someone to introduce you to a boyfriend? You don’t have a single fish in your circle of friends?”
Shuangxu shook her head, “My circle of friends is as clean as my fish tank.”
She had only kept a turtle, and the turtle had run away.
“What a waste!” Xiao Liao was exasperated, “If I looked like you, I would date six handsome boyfriends at once, one for each day of the week, and I would take Sundays off. I would also keep a whole pond of fish, and when I got tired of them, I would change them for new ones.”
Shuangxu had never been interested in men. When she was a teenager, she discovered she liked Shen Yu, but she didn’t even have the chance to tell him before she was exposed by Song Leyan.
During the years she was exiled abroad, she didn’t even bother making friends, let alone men.
Now she realized how much she needed them.
After that day, Wei Qian launched a passionate pursuit of Shuangxu.
Every morning, a bouquet of the freshest roses was delivered to Feixue, making a grand gesture that Fu Yun and Mrs. Wang knew about in the house.
When Shuangxu went back to the Shen family for dinner, ->>
Mrs. Wang was very happy, “This Mr. Wei must be smitten with our Miss Shuangxu, right?”
“Of course.”
Fu Yun could tell she was happy. Shuangxu was quietly drinking porridge in the restaurant, hesitating for a long time before finally not saying she didn’t like Wei Qian.
Wei Qian’s pursuit was too high-profile. On Friday night, Shuangxu received an overseas call from Shen Yu.
First, there were a few words of concern and casual conversation like usual. After a while, he brought up the matter: “Are you on a blind date these days?”
Shuangxu hummed in response.
“How’s it going?” Shen Yu asked.
