Chapter 66: She Will Get Married Sooner or Later
After leaving the French restaurant, a gust of wind brushed past her face, and Shuangxu’s stomach grumbled.
It was already 8:30 pm, and she had only had a glass of aperitif. Her stomach felt like the fish tank at home, empty except for water.
She was very hungry, feeling like she could eat a whole cow, but she couldn’t think of what to eat.
Standing in the halo of light at the restaurant entrance, she pondered for a moment before suddenly remembering the noodle shop where He Tingzhou had taken her last time. It seemed to be not far from here.
It must be because she was too hungry. Thinking of that bowl of fragrant beef noodles, she suddenly craved it.
She didn’t quite remember the location of the alley, so she took a detour before finally finding the inconspicuous wooden sign.
She hadn’t noticed it last time, but today she saw the words clearly: – Youpu Noodle House.
Fortunately, the noodle shop was still open. She went in and found a seat, ordering the same beef noodles as last time.
When the boss brought the noodles, he also gave her a plate of crispy meat with a fragrant aroma: “Freshly made, Miss Song, try the taste.”
“Thank you.” Shuangxu smiled, her almond-shaped eyes curving slightly. “You still remember me.”
The boss chuckled, “Mr. He has only brought you here, of course I remember.”
The crispy meat was deep-fried to a golden brown, sprinkled with chili powder and salt. Shuangxu took a bite, it was very fragrant.
“He hasn’t brought other women here?” Shuangxu found it strange. “What about his previous girlfriends?”
“Not really,” the boss said. “Have you ever seen Mr. He with a girlfriend?”
Shuangxu shook her head, “I don’t know him well.” Then she added, “Not before, I’ve only gotten to know him a little recently.”
Maybe He Tingzhou preferred to take women to those high-end restaurants. Encountering her by the bridge that day was a coincidence, a friend’s sister, thinking she was going to jump into the river, he just happened to save her.
“Uncle, your noodles are so delicious, why don’t you move to a place with more foot traffic?”
The shop was still quiet, with no other customers at the moment. The boss sat down and chatted with her.
“This noodle shop was opened by my old man. My skills are far inferior to his. My mother died early, so he relied on selling beef noodles to support us brothers to go to college. This area was very prosperous twenty years ago, but then there were demolitions nearby, and people gradually moved away. My old man got cancer, and we were going to close the shop, but Mr. He bought it and paid for my old man’s treatment. He found the most authoritative brain cancer specialist, but in the end, he passed away.”
Shuangxu’s chopsticks slowly stopped as she listened. This kind of great act of kindness was so incongruous with He Tingzhou’s temperament.
Her first reaction was that this person might have taken money from He Tingzhou and was helping him fabricate a story to create a persona, but then she thought, He Tingzhou, who was so arrogant, wouldn’t care about his reputation at all.
“Why did he help you?”
“Because I am kind-hearted, charitable, and compassionate.” A sudden voice, with a characteristic lightness and laziness, interrupted. Shuangxu looked up and saw He Tingzhou standing at the door, saying coolly, “My nickname is Living Lei Feng, haven’t you heard?”
…You’re more like a Living King of Hell.
The boss immediately got up with a smile, “I’ll go make you some noodles.”
He Tingzhou walked over, pulled out the chair opposite Shuangxu, and sat down with a leisurely air.
What bad luck. Shuangxu poked at the noodles in her bowl.
The scene at Blue Night was still vivid in her mind. She couldn’t fathom his unpredictable and elusive mind, and didn’t know what face to put on when facing him.
She should just finish eating and leave.
She lowered her head to eat the noodles, and He Tingzhou’s faint gaze fell upon her from across the table.
“Why didn’t you bring your boyfriend with you?” Shuangxu was about to speak when he said, “Oh, I forgot, he’s not your boyfriend yet, a blind date, right?”
“It’s over.” Shuangxu said.
He Tingzhou chuckled softly, crossed his legs, and said in a tone of watching the fun, “Congratulations.”
“…”
He Tingzhou’s noodles were quickly cooked and brought out, the hot and fragrant noodles were sprinkled with a layer of green chives.
He Tingzhou habitually started to pick out the chives. Shuangxu put down her chopsticks and was about to leave, not even having time to open her mouth.
He Tingzhou said, “Sit down. Leaving a bowl of leftover noodles affects my appetite.”
Shuangxu muttered to herself about how difficult he was to please, picked up her noodle bowl, and sent it directly to the back kitchen.
He Tingzhou glanced at her back as she walked towards the shop door, but didn’t say anything.
Shuangxu walked out of the noodle shop and realized that her car was blocked.
A pure black Koenigsegg was parked head-on in front of her white Porsche, arrogant, domineering, and unreasonable.
The alley was narrow, not wide enough for two cars to pass side by side. She could only turn around and go back.
Shuangxu got into the car, first backing up slowly, then turning the steering wheel, trying to make a U-turn in the cramped alley.
Her driving skills were limited to being able to drive, and the width of the alley was really restrictive. Making a U-turn was like a high-difficulty circus act. She went back and forth several times, but still couldn’t turn around.
She took a deep breath, and finally got out of the car and went back to the shop.
Shen Yu returned to China a day early. When he arrived at the Shen family, Fu Yun was studying a stack of photos with Mrs. Wang, whispering to each other.
“After looking at all of them, this one is still the best. A family of scholars, and the person himself is very impressive. I heard he won a literary award, the youngest associate professor at Yancheng University. I went to their school yesterday to listen to a class. He wears glasses, very polite, Shuangxu should like him.”
Mrs. Wang said, “Good character is the most important. That Wei, I really didn’t expect him to be so snobbish.”
Hearing the sound of the car, the maid at the door called out, “Master is back.”
Fu Yun quickly put down the photos and got up. Shen Yu got out of the car, and the driver followed behind him, carrying a suitcase into the house.
“Didn’t you say you’d be back tomorrow? Why did you come back early?” Fu Yun asked.
“I finished handling things and came back.” Shen Yu changed his shoes and walked in, seeing the scattered photos on the coffee table.
Fu Yun asked, “Did you have dinner? Let Mrs. Wang cook you some late-night snacks.”
Shen Yu raised his eyes: “Give me an explanation about Wei Qian.”
“I misjudged Wei Qian. I saw that he was young and promising, and his career was built from scratch. In the future, when Shuangxu marries him, she won’t have to look at her in-laws’ faces. I didn’t expect…”
Seeing his cold expression, Fu Yun stopped, “I want more than anyone for Shuangxu to find a good home, someone to take care of her. If you’re not at ease, you can also help with the screening.”
“Am I dead or crippled? You’re so eager to find someone to entrust her to.”
Fu Yun was very sensitive: “Ayu, what do you mean? You can’t take care of her for the rest of her life. She will get married sooner or later.”
“Sooner or later, not now.” The fatigue in Shen Yu’s eyes mixed with coldness. He pinched his brow and said, “The family doesn’t need to use her marriage as a bargaining chip. Let her choose whoever she likes.”
