Chapter 67: Right Eye Twitching
He Tingzhou picked up a noodle with his chopsticks, his calm black eyes glancing at her sullen face: “Why are you back? Didn’t you eat enough?”
“The alley is too narrow, I can’t get out.” Shuangxu couldn’t say he was intentionally blocking her, after all, the alley was only that wide, and his car parked there was reasonable.
“Then ask your blind date to hire a demolition team, demolish the houses next door, and make way for the princess.”
Why did he bring up the blind date again, didn’t she already say…
He Tingzhou raised his eyebrows slightly, seemingly regretting for her: “You forgot again, you two are already broken up.”
Shuangxu: “…”
“Whatever, go ahead and mock me.” She wasn’t angry at all, “It’s not a pity that we broke up.”
“Who are you going to be with next?” He Tingzhou asked.
“There’s no next.” Shuangxu held the gray-blue gradient coarse pottery teacup, the water inside was warm, just the right temperature, “My brother said he’ll handle it.”
He Tingzhou glanced at her and then sneered with a hint of mockery: “Are you living for your brother?”
“Without my brother, I might not have survived until now.” Shuangxu said.
He Tingzhou didn’t say anything else. Shuangxu sat opposite him, watching him eat noodles.
He Tingzhou ate with elegant manners, every move reflecting the upbringing of someone who had been pampered since childhood. He ate slowly and steadily, without showing much appetite.
His mother died early, and his father was the Air Force Commander, so he probably didn’t have much free time to spend with his children.
The noodle shop was located in this old alley abandoned by economic development, the purpose was clearly not to make money. Moreover, even if a small noodle shop like this was booming, its monthly revenue might not be enough to cover a bottle of wine he casually ordered outside.
There was no investment value, the only possibility was probably emotion.
She remembered the story the owner didn’t finish, her curiosity remained, and she casually asked: “Why did you buy this noodle shop?”
“Why do you care about my business?”
He Tingzhou’s voice was slow and gentle, but it made Shuangxu startled. Did she ask too much?
“I was just asking casually.”
He Tingzhou said: “I don’t answer casual questions.”
“Oh.”
Shuangxu didn’t mean to pry into his privacy, but seeing his indifferent attitude, she realized she had crossed the line. She wisely didn’t ask further, picked up the coarse pottery cup and lowered her head to drink tea.
She didn’t look for a topic to chat with him until He Tingzhou finished eating.
Leaving the noodle shop, she got into her car. He Tingzhou, who was right in front of her, put the car in reverse and backed up in a breathtakingly straight line. When he reached the alley entrance, he turned the steering wheel and completed the turn in one smooth motion.
The whole process was incredibly smooth, making Shuangxu feel deeply ashamed of the five minutes she spent circling in place just now.
He Tingzhou parked his car at the alley entrance and glanced at her from the lowered window: “What are you standing there for, waiting for your demolition team?”
Shuangxu started the car and drove forward. After turning from the alley onto the main road, she looked back through the rearview mirror.
The Koenigsegg stood still, a hand with distinct knuckles resting on the window sill, a hint of crimson on the fingertip receding further and further in the rearview mirror.
The next day Shuangxu learned that Shen Yu had already returned. She didn’t know how he talked to Fu Yun, but Fu Yun didn’t arrange any more blind dates for her.
Time flew by and it was June, the temperature rising day by day. Shen Yu and Lu Manman’s engagement ceremony was at the end of the month.
Fu Yun had been busy preparing for the engagement banquet these past few days, taking care of the hotel, guest list, and the five traditional gifts.
Shuangxu didn’t participate in any of it, nor did she ever ask about it. This was good for her, for Lu Manman, and for Fu Yun.
After leaving Youpu Noodle Shop that day, she hadn’t seen He Tingzhou again.
She went to Yundun for meetings every week, and she used to always run into him, but she hadn’t seen him these past few times.
She thought He Tingzhou wasn’t at the company and was on another business trip. When she was leaving, she overheard employees passing by mentioning “Mr. He,” and learned that he was upstairs.
Director Fan’s attitude had changed drastically, he seemed extra attentive. After all, it was a project personally followed by the CEO, so he had to show off his performance to get a chance to appear in front of him.
Director Fan sent them to the elevator lobby, Shuangxu suddenly said: “He hasn’t been to any of the meetings these past few times.”
Director Fan gave her a “you’re so naive” look: “Isn’t the progress being monitored by me? I am He’s eyes. Ms. Song, don’t blame me for speaking bluntly, our group has countless big projects every day, your liquid hydrogen drone is at most a side dish, how could He have time to personally care about it.”
Xiao Liao clenched her fist wanting to hit him.
Shuangxu said: “Oh, so Director Fan’s position in Yundun is to be responsible for side dishes.”
Director Fan didn’t like to hear that: “I’m responsible for the entire civilian drone sector, I have a lot of projects under my belt.”
“Then it’s a table of side dishes.”
Xiao Liao, whether she was really stupid or pretending to be stupid, added: “Side dishes go well with ‘rice’.”
The elevator arrived, Shuangxu stepped into the elevator and turned to see Director Fan’s face turning green.
The elevator door closed, Xiao Liao giggled and raised her hand, Shuangxu raised her hand to give her a high-five, and seriously said: “That’s rude, don’t do that next time.”
“You started it first, I learned it from you!” Xiao Liao argued, then sighed with melancholy, “I didn’t see the handsome Mr. He again, so disappointed.”
Shuangxu looked at the numbers jumping on the display screen and didn’t say anything.
It was actually normal. Director Fan was telling the truth, He Tingzhou must be very busy and didn’t have time to pay attention to their small project.
It rained heavily on the summer solstice, and it didn’t clear up until the next day.
After waking up in the morning, Shuangxu’s eyelids twitched violently, probably because she stayed up late last night.
When she got to the company, Xiao Liao bought her coffee. Seeing her constantly pressing her eyelids, she leaned over and asked: “What’s wrong with your eyes?”
“My eyelids keep twitching.” Shuangxu said, “Probably eye fatigue.”
Xiao Liao was startled:
“It’s over, it’s over. My right eye is twitching, it’s a bad omen.”
Shuangxu tapped her head: “Do you believe in science?”
Xiao Liao manually muted the microphone: “Okay.”
Shuangxu was lost in thought during the meeting, but when she came back to her senses a few seconds later, she reached for her coffee to wake herself up. Somehow, she didn’t hold it steady, and the cup crashed onto her laptop.
Coffee liquid immediately spilled all over the keyboard, and the meeting room was filled with panic.
“Paper! Paper! Get some paper!”
“Turn off the computer first! Turn it upside down.”
“Little Boss, did you back up the files on your computer?”
Before Shuangxu could react, everyone rushed to grab the computer and started cleaning up the coffee liquid in a flurry.
“Luckily, everything was backed up.” She touched her right eyelid and looked at Xiao Liao next to her. The jinx was really working.
Well, even though she didn’t take a sip, the effect of waking up was really good.
The computer couldn’t be salvaged, so she switched to a new one. As she was replying to emails, her phone on the desk rang.
It was her godmother calling.
Shuangxu picked up the phone and answered. On the other end, Fu Yun’s voice was choked with tears: “Shuangxu, your godfather was taken away by the procuratorate.”
There was a bang in her head, and at that moment, Shuangxu suddenly realized that her right eyelid wasn’t twitching because of fatigue, nor because of her computer.
She jumped up and ran hurriedly towards the elevator lobby, not even having time to respond to Xiao Liao’s call.
On the way back to the Shen family, she encountered a traffic jam. She waited anxiously, constantly looking out the window, hearing the sanitation workers chatting on the side of the road, saying that there had been an accident ahead.
She couldn’t wait any longer, so she turned from the main road onto the auxiliary road to take a detour.
Reporters were like hyenas smelling blood, blocking the entrance to the Shen family. When they saw Shuangxu’s car approaching, they wanted to surround it.
She stepped on the gas and drove straight through, circling to the back of the villa, and parked the car on the side of the road.
Mrs. Wang received the call and ran to open the door for her. After getting out of the car, Shuangxu ran all the way, so fast that Mrs. Wang couldn’t even keep up.
