Chapter 72: Why Don’t You Try Crying?
That night, Shuangxu lay in bed, pondering He Tingzhou’s unpredictable attitude.
If even Shen Yu’s face wasn’t enough this time, when she used herself as a bargaining chip to negotiate with him, would he be willing to accept this exchange, or would he simply want to play with her?
She was anxious and confused.
Was there anyone who could invent a translator to decode He Tingzhou’s thoughts into human language?
The next morning, Shuangxu went to Feixue.
She had been at the hospital for the past few days, and there were some company matters waiting for her to handle.
When she arrived at the company, she found Shu Yang there, signing documents in the office. She had just finished a round of chemotherapy and was wearing a hat, but it couldn’t hide the pallor on her face.
“Why are you here?” Shuangxu pushed the door open.
Shu Yang put down the documents and gestured for Xiao Liao to close the office door. Xiao Liao closed the door but stayed in the office.
Shu Yang said, “I heard something happened at your house. I happened to be feeling okay today and not throwing up much, so I came over to take care of these things. How is your dad-in-law doing?”
Only then did Shuangxu’s unspoken anxieties and fears surface.
She said dejectedly, “Not optimistic.”
“There’s nothing I can do to help you with this. I’ve told Xiao Liao to send all the documents that need signing to the hospital. For any decisions that need to be made, we’ll have a video conference with everyone. You just focus on your family matters, the company has me.”
Shu Yang said, “Besides, I’ve always believed in karma. Good people like your brother, your dad-in-law, and your mom-in-law, they’ll definitely have good fortune.”
Shuangxu felt a little comforted: “When did you start believing in this?”
“Just recently, a new belief.”
Shu Yang hugged her, and Xiao Liao also came over: “Me too! I’m banging on the electronic wooden fish every day, praying for your dad-in-law.”
The three of them were crowded together in a hug, Shuangxu was squeezed for breath, but her mood lightened.
She hugged them back: “Thank you.”
After dealing with the company matters, Shuangxu left and drove to the cake shop where He Tingzhou had taken her last time. She ordered a blueberry mousse.
The clerk delivered the packaged cake to her. Shuangxu turned around with the cake in hand and almost bumped into someone.
Zheng Zuye grinned at her: “Long time no see, beautiful.”
Shuangxu’s brow furrowed immediately. She tried to bypass him, but Zheng Zuye took a step sideways, his tall figure blocking her path.
“The Shen family is in trouble now, your backer is gone, you dare to give me the cold shoulder?”
Shuangxu shifted to the side, but he moved over again. The clerk noticed his harassment and asked from behind the counter: “Ma’am, do you need me to call the police?”
“Go ahead, let’s see which cop dares to arrest me.”
Zheng Zuye was fearless. Even after getting caught with drugs, he was able to walk free. Why would he be afraid of the police?
Shuangxu took the opportunity to quickly leave, but Zheng Zuye tried to grab her. She was prepared and nimbly dodged him.
“Don’t touch me.”
“Okay, okay, I won’t touch you.” Zheng Zuye was unusually agreeable today. “I’m here to help you. You wouldn’t want to see Shen Changyuan go to jail, would you? This time, the trouble he’s gotten himself into is not so easy to solve. Shen Yu can’t save him, only I can help you. If you just follow me, I’ll go to my grandfather and plead for him to let Shen Changyuan off the hook. How about it? This deal is a bargain.”
Shuangxu suddenly turned her head and stared at him: “Did your family frame him?”
Zheng Zuye snorted: “When Shen Yu put me in rehab, he should have known the consequences of offending our Zheng family. My grandfather is just taking advantage of the situation, giving them a lesson.”
So it was actually Shen Yu who got Zheng Zuye caught for drug use.
It was all because she offended the Zheng family.
“Blame it on you, if you had let me play with you earlier, there wouldn’t be so much trouble.”
Zheng Zuye said, reaching out to embrace her: “Do you need to think about it? No one else can help you but me. I’m telling you, I don’t have much patience.”
“If you don’t have much, save it.”
A cold, indifferent voice cut in. At the same time, Zheng Zuye’s arm that was draped over her shoulder was brushed away by a hand.
He Tingzhou came up from behind, cupping Shuangxu’s head in his hand and pulling her in front of him.
Shuangxu hadn’t reacted yet when Zheng Zuye’s eyes darted between the two of them, his previous flippant and flirtatious expression changing.
“You’re into her too?” He stared at He Tingzhou, giving a frivolous and ambiguous smile. “What do you think, the girl I like is pretty good, even you’re charmed by her. But I saw her first, first come first served, I’ll play with her first, and then I’ll give her to you when I’m tired of her.”
“You like to get ahead so much, why don’t you go die first?” He Tingzhou looked at Zheng Zuye with cold indifference and disgust. “When will your grandfather finally learn to tie a leash on you?”
Zheng Zuye was speechless, he turned to Shuangxu: “We’ll settle our score later. Since you’re into him too, let’s compete fairly.”
He felt he had a hold of Shuangxu’s weakness, Shen Changyuan’s life and death were in the hands of the Zheng family, she wouldn’t dare disobey him. He said confidently: “Let her choose, see who she goes with.”
Unexpectedly, He Tingzhou was extremely domineering, not giving Shuangxu a chance to speak: “She has no choice with me.”
Then, in front of Zheng Zuye, he took her away.
Leaving the cake shop, Shuangxu was lost in thought, not noticing when He Tingzhou stopped.
She almost bumped into him, stopping just in time.
“You’re lost in thought, thinking about who?”
“I was thinking about Zheng…”
Before Shuangxu could finish, He Tingzhou chuckled: “Only two minutes apart and you’re already missing him–>>
“You want to see him? Why didn’t you say so earlier? I’ll send you back to find him.”
“I wasn’t thinking about him, I was thinking about his grandfather,” Shuangxu explained.
He Tingzhou’s gaze and tone were both cold: “You’re not letting go of an eighty-year-old man?”
“…”
Shuangxu’s train of thought was completely derailed by his anger. She realized He Tingzhou had known all along that this matter was related to the Zheng family.
Shen Yu… must have known too.
“You have quite a few backup options,” He Tingzhou lowered his eyes and glanced at her, “You found me last night, and now you’re looking for someone else. What, can’t I satisfy you?”
“I didn’t look for him,” Shuangxu looked at him, “Besides, didn’t you reject me?”
He Tingzhou raised an eyebrow: “Where did I say I rejected you?”
Shuangxu manually replayed it for him: “You said yourself, you don’t like to force people.”
“Which word in those six words sounds like ‘reject’?”
“So you’re agreeing?”
He Tingzhou’s tone was lazy: “Where did I say I agreed?”
“What do you even mean?” Shuangxu stared at him directly, “I don’t understand.”
“Why don’t you try crying?” He Tingzhou leaned against the car door, adopting a waiting posture, “When you cry, I’ll agree to you.”
This was such a strange request. She wasn’t an actor, she couldn’t just cry on command.
“I can’t cry.”
“Then take your time and get ready.” He Tingzhou leaned against the car door, adopting a waiting posture, “When you cry, I’ll agree to you.”
