Chapter 86: You Should Be Wary of Your Good Brother
Shuangxu was annoyed by Zheng Zuye’s gaze, which made her feel like a venomous snake that wouldn’t leave her alone.
Shen Yu blocked Zheng Zuye’s view, separating him from Shuangxu, and said softly, “Xiao Jiu, go rest for a while.”
“Wait.” Zheng, the old man, called out to her. “This is Shuangxu, right? I heard this kid is a bit of a fool. He bullied you last time. Today, I’ll stand up for you and make him apologize to you in person.”
Shen Yu said to Shuangxu again, “Go.”
Shuangxu wanted to say something, but Fu Yun pulled her away. “I’m tired, Shuangxu, come sit with me for a while.”
Shuangxu knew this was an attempt to get her out of the way. They had something to say, and the matter involved her, but she didn’t want to just walk away and ignore everything. However, Shen Yu’s attitude was undeniable, and the situation had evolved into a feud between the Shen and Zheng families.
The old man was unhappy with Shen Yu’s attitude. “You’re not even giving me any face?”
“I’ve already given you the face you deserve.” Shen Yu’s brow was furrowed with indifference. “If you weren’t protecting him, would he even have the chance to stand here today?”
“I heard about your sister’s matter.”
Zheng, the old man, wasn’t a simpleton in his youth. The Zheng family’s rise to power wasn’t clean. In terms of tactics, he was much more ruthless than Zheng Zuye. Even his apology was laced with the arrogance of someone who had always been above others.
“When I was young, Zuye’s father followed me through a lot of hardship. I felt indebted to him. Later, when this boy was born, I wanted to make up for it. I spoiled him since he was young, and that’s why he’s so naive. Your family’s little girl is beautiful. I find her very likable. He likes her, but he doesn’t know how to woo girls and used the wrong methods. About that medicine last time, I heard him say it was given to him by his friend. He said it could help with excitement and wouldn’t harm the body…”
“What kind of medicine?” Shen Yu suddenly interrupted.
The old man stopped talking.
“Last time, the Yue family held a birthday party for Zhao Zhao. You went to Lin City with Manman to see her grandmother. That day, Shuangxu was drugged. You didn’t know about this?”
Shen Changyuan was a little surprised. “I thought she would definitely tell you. Your mother even blamed you for not telling us about such a big matter. If Shuangxu hadn’t mentioned it herself last time, we wouldn’t have known she was almost bullied.”
Shen Yu’s expression darkened, and the hand hanging by his side slowly clenched.
Zheng Zuye snorted provocatively. “What’s the use of you guarding against me? You should be wary of your good brother. That person was taken away by someone surnamed Yue that day. Why don’t you ask him what he did?”
“Shut your mouth!” Zheng, the old man, scolded.
He didn’t expect Shen Yu to be unaware. Logically, his sister should have been the first to turn to him when something happened.
“That’s why I’m here today.” The old man’s attitude softened slightly. “A father’s fault for not teaching his son well. He caused trouble, and I, as his grandfather, bear the greatest responsibility. So, call Shuangxu back. Today, I’ll apologize to her on Zuye’s behalf.”
“Apologies from someone who keeps repeating their mistakes are meaningless. Save it.” Shen Yu said. “Raising a grandson into a useless fool, it’s not a pity that the Zheng family will be ruined in his hands. But Zheng Lao, how long can you protect him?”
The usually gentle man suddenly turned cold. Zheng, the old man, choked and almost doubted his ears.
“What did you say? Even your father wouldn’t dare talk to me like that!”
Zheng Zuye angrily retorted, “Shen Yu, what do you mean?”
“I mean exactly what I said.” Shen Yu’s expression had lost its last trace of warmth. “You better pray every day that your grandfather lives longer.”
“You damn…” Zheng Zuye was furious and was about to attack, but Zheng, the old man, stopped him with a gloomy expression.
He was getting old, how many years did he have left? With this stinky boy’s character, he’d offended countless people. While he was still alive, anyone who wanted to move against the Zheng family had to think twice. But once he was gone, Shen Yu would probably be the first to kill Zheng Zuye.
He looked at Shen Changyuan behind Shen Yu. His tacit approval indicated that Shen Yu’s attitude represented the Shen family’s stance.
“You have no right to speak.” Zheng, the old man, suppressed Zheng Zuye, pondered for a moment, and said, “Everyone is here today. I, Zheng Jingren, will make a promise to you in front of everyone. He will never harass your family’s little girl again.”
“Grandpa, you don’t know that He…” Zheng Zuye didn’t finish his sentence before he was slapped by the old man.
Zheng, the old man, looked at Shen Yu. “My word is given. Are you satisfied now?”
Shuangxu accompanied Fu Yun to rest and met a few ladies who were close to Fu Yun. She greeted them with a smile, calling them “Auntie.”
After they left, the ladies looked at Shuangxu’s back and chatted.
“Fu Yun’s adopted daughter is really well-raised. She’s beautiful and well-behaved. You can tell she’s loved. No wonder she’s treated like a real daughter.”
“What’s the use of the Shen family being nice to her? Her own family doesn’t even like her.”
“That’s because Cui Ning is narrow-minded and can’t tolerate others. In the end, it’s all because of Song Mianzhi’s debt. Children can’t choose their own origins. It’s good that she’s being raised by the Shen family. Look at their second son, what kind of person has he been raised into?”
“Right, she’s so spoiled and arrogant. I don’t even want to talk about it. She doesn’t have the slightest bit of a ladylike demeanor.”
The Song family’s affairs weren’t a secret. One daughter was carefully raised by the Si family, while the other was neglected and left to be raised by another family.
But when the two sisters stood together, anyone with eyes could see that the latter was the one who looked like a true young lady.
Shuangxu was indeed raised very well by the Shen family. She was radiant and dazzling, like a princess.
This was undeniable.
They were so engrossed in their gossip that they didn’t notice Cui Ning standing nearby, her face green with anger.
Shuangxu went to the tea break table to get something for Fu Yun and ran into Cui Ning.
She only glanced at her before lowering her head to pick out what Fu Yun liked to eat.
Cui Ning frowned and said, “This is the Shen family’s banquet. You’re acting like the hostess. You’re always hanging around the Shen family.
“Spin around, are you trying to get people to point fingers at my back?”
Shuangxu’s tone was flat: “I can spin around you too, if you don’t mind your blood pressure going up.”
She didn’t bother with Cui Ning’s displeased expression, directly walking away with her plate.
Yue Zifeng,Zuo Zhong, and a few others were sitting together drinking. Shuangxu passed by from afar and heard someone mention: “Master Zhou isn’t coming today?”
“He must still be sleeping.”
“Should we call him? It’s already this late, he’ll be sleeping upside down if he keeps sleeping.”
“If you want to call, go ahead.” Yue Zifeng crossed his legs, “He didn’t sleep at all last night, his temper is bad. I called him out to play this afternoon, he scolded me, said I was bothering him, and told me to play by myself. Damn!”
Laughter erupted from the group.
Shuangxu’s steps stopped abruptly in surprise.
He Tingzhou didn’t sleep all night?
They…didn’t do it for that long, did they?
