Chapter 96: A Phone Call from Brother Tingzhou
Returning to Songming Road, before getting out of the car, Shuangxu observed her surroundings. The car from that morning was indeed gone.
He Tingzhou didn’t say whether he would come or not, and she didn’t ask. It was best if he didn’t come.
However, when she finished showering and came out of the bathroom, He Tingzhou was already standing in the bedroom.
His suit jacket was thrown on the bench at the foot of the bed, his tie thrown carelessly, one end dangling on the floor. He stood by the desk, flipping through the books she had bought today, casually unbuttoning his cuffs.
Hearing the sound, he glanced up at her, a slight smile curving his lips.
“Did you hear that?”
Shuangxu said coldly, “You were talking so loudly in my ear, even a dead person could hear it.”
“It seems that making wishes in your ear is more effective.” He Tingzhou walked past her slowly, “Princess Aladdin.”
“…”
Shuangxu lay on the bed for a while. He Tingzhou came out of the bathroom after showering, and the other half of the mattress sank slightly.
He lay down on his side, propping his head up. “Start.”
He didn’t seem to be going to sleep, more like a headmaster listening to a public lecture, ready to give her a grade and evaluation after listening.
Shuangxu turned to look at him. “Are you going to sleep now?”
He Tingzhou: “Mhm.”
Shuangxu picked up the storybook and began to read to him.
He Tingzhou watched her.
The bedroom had a warm orange bedside lamp on. His gaze followed the soft edge of the light, moving from her brow bone to her nose, and finally to her lips. The light shone through her clear skin, giving it a translucent quality.
Shuangxu’s voice was neither delicate nor deep, but at a perfect middle ground. Her reading speed was unhurried, like a gentle spring rain.
He Tingzhou didn’t listen to a single word. When she was halfway through, he leaned over.
Shuangxu stopped. His face gradually approached in her field of vision, his warm lips covering hers, gently and meticulously kissing her lips, like tasting candy.
The kiss, soft like a fine rain, was like a real spring rain, filling the air with a moist, fresh scent.
After kissing for a while, he pulled back, his hand naturally resting on her waist.
When Shuangxu continued reading, that hand gently moved around her body, from her abdomen to her waist, then slid down, his fingertips tracing the shape of her bones through the silk nightgown.
Shuangxu gritted her teeth: “Are you even listening?”
“I am,” He Tingzhou’s voice was a little lazy, “I don’t know the rules of your family, but I use my ears to listen to stories.”
“You’re distracting me.”
He raised his bony right hand: “This hand is bored, what do you say we do about it?”
“…” That hand could do a lot of things. Shuangxu reached out with one hand to hold his, preventing him from causing trouble.
He Tingzhou took her hand and wrapped it around her waist.
This time, he lay down obediently, his eyelids closed. Shuangxu tried to move forward a little.
“Where are you going?”
“Nowhere.” Shuangxu said, “You’re holding me too tight, it’s a bit hot.”
“Then take off your clothes?”
“…” “…No need.”
She didn’t dare move anymore, resigned to continuing to read the story.
When He Tingzhou fell asleep, she stopped and fell asleep in the position he was holding her.
Xu Zhen came to deliver breakfast as usual that morning, but he didn’t buy coffee today because the boss had issued an order yesterday: Song wouldn’t drink coffee from today onwards.
Xu Zhen had no idea why, but Shuangxu always liked to drink the coffee brewed by the secretary whenever she went to Yun Dun. But the boss’s orders didn’t need to be questioned, just obeyed.
He Tingzhou was in a good mood early in the morning, as he had been yesterday.
This state of physical and mental well-being was rare. Xu Zhen was afraid of ruining his mood, so he was extra careful when mentioning his upcoming trip.
“It was booked half a month ago. Everything is ready in Hong Kong, just waiting for you to go.”
He Tingzhou was free-spirited, but when it came to work, he was always decisive and never delayed his schedule.
But he had never made a temporary decision to attend an unnecessary summit before, and he had never stayed at a woman’s house before, so anything was possible. It was better to be safe than sorry.
He Tingzhou clicked his tongue.
Xu Zhen’s mind flashed the words “as expected.”
“How many days?” He Tingzhou asked.
“Five days.”
Chen Peiran’s case officially went to court, and Shuangxu accompanied Shu Yang to the court.
The lawyer Shen Yu hired for her, a Mr. Zhao, was a big shot specializing in economic cases. This kind of small case was a piece of cake for him.
The defense lawyer hired by Chen Peiran was also very professional, but in front of Mr. Zhao, he was like a kitten meeting a tiger.
In the courtroom, Mr. Zhao was a whirlwind of brilliance, the opposing lawyer was completely outmatched. Chen Peiran’s face turned ashen, Shu Yang almost burst out laughing from his seat in the plaintiff’s bench.
This case involved a large sum of money, and in the end, Chen Peiran lost, sentenced to one and a half years in prison.
As soon as the trial ended, Shu Yang rushed over and hugged Shuangxu, her joyful voice echoing through the entire courtroom: “Justice has been served!”
Mr. Zhao said, “It’s not justice being served, economic cases are always more troublesome. The people at Chenxing were originally unwilling to give up the money they had already gotten. This time, it was so smooth because Mr. Shen was urging them from behind the scenes.”
Chen Peiran glared at them from afar: “Don’t get too cocky, you two, I’m going to appeal!”
Shu Yang didn’t bother with him, she said to the bailiff, “Take him away!”
As they came out of the court, Shen Yu was waiting for them outside.
Shen Yu booked a restaurant for lunch together, a celebration and also to thank Mr. Zhao.
Shu Yang repeatedly expressed her gratitude to him at the table. Mr. Zhao said, “No need to thank me, thank Mr. Shen.”
Shu Yang raised her glass solemnly: “Mr. Shen, I’m so grateful for your help during this time–>>
“Take care of yourself. I can’t thank you enough for your kindness.”
Shen Yu smiled, “You’re Xiao Jiu’s friend, no need to be so formal. If you want to thank someone, thank Xiao Jiu.”
This was the first time Shu Yang officially met him. Shen Yu in person was far more charming than in photos. Static images could capture his handsome features, but not the grace in his every move.
Seeing him in person, Shu Yang understood why so many women were smitten with him, understood why Shuangxu suffered from that love.
Anyone would fall for a man who treated them with such affection.
During dinner, Shuangxu sat beside Shen Yu.
Halfway through the meal, her phone on the table lit up.
Seeing the four characters on the screen, Shuangxu’s heart leaped into her throat. Shen Yu, who was talking to Lawyer Zhao, looked at her.
She quickly picked up her phone and hung up.
“Why didn’t you answer?” Shen Yu asked.
Shuangxu said, “It’s okay, I can call back after dinner.”
She acted calm, it wasn’t unusual to hang up unimportant calls during a meal, Shen Yu didn’t suspect anything.
But before Shuangxu could breathe a sigh of relief, “Brother Tingzhou” called again.
Seeing Shen Yu’s gaze turn towards her again, it would be a disaster if he saw that contact name.
She quickly grabbed her phone and stood up, “She seems a bit anxious, I should answer.”
