Bigamy Life is a Bit Sweet
Bigamy Life is a Bit Sweet Chapter 1.2

“Dad, look! It’s that auntie from earlier.” The little boy’s clear voice sounded nearby. “Why is she sitting on the ground crying?”

The man didn’t answer the child’s question but walked over quietly.

He held an umbrella over Cheng Yu’s head, shielding her from the merciless rain. She looked up blankly, her eyes red and swollen, her vision blurry.

The man bent down and helped her up, placing the umbrella in her hand.

His deep, calm eyes reflected her pale face. “Miss, no matter what has happened to you, think about the people who care about you. For them… no, more for yourself, you must live well.”

The man’s warm words flowed like a spring, slowly melting the ice in Cheng Yu’s heart. She held the umbrella, watching as the man took the little boy in the yellow raincoat by the hand and walked away in the rain.

For the people who care about her…

But there was no one left in this world who cared about her.

Cheng Yu thought bitterly, standing alone under the umbrella.

When Deng Ruofan returned home, the house was pitch black, not a single light was on. He frowned and pressed the switch on the wall, turning on the living room light. Only then did he see a slender figure sitting quietly on the balcony outside the floor-to-ceiling window.

The balcony had European-style windows, and the white windowsill was filled with a variety of potted flowers. The flower buds swayed gently in the moonlight, and the air was filled with a faint fragrance.

“Why didn’t you turn on the lights?” he asked, his voice cold.

Cheng Yu didn’t say anything, she just looked at him with a pair of dark, emotionless eyes.

He suddenly felt irritated. “What’s wrong now?”

She remained silent for two seconds before speaking calmly. “I went to the hospital for a check-up today. Do you want to hear the results?”

Deng Ruofan frowned, looking at his wife with displeasure. She wasn’t going to bring up the miscarriage again, was she? He felt bad about losing the baby too, but was it all his fault? She shouldn’t have barged into his office without saying anything!

“We’ll talk about it when I get back from my business trip! Help me pack my bags first. There’s an important client overseas who has a legal issue, and I need to go help. I have to leave for the airport soon.” He looked at his watch, not wanting to waste time arguing with his wife at this critical moment.

Cheng Yu didn’t move, she just asked him coldly, “Do you think going on a business trip and working is more important than listening to what I want to tell you?”

“Can you stop making trouble? I work to make money! Do you think you can live in this luxurious house, wear designer clothes, and carry designer bags without me earning money? I’m the one supporting you! Do you think I’m going out to have fun? Hurry up and pack my bags! I’ll be gone for at least a week this time.”

“If you want to pack your bags, you can do it yourself.”

“Cheng Yu!” Deng Ruofan thought his wife was throwing a tantrum and became angry.

Cheng Yu stood up gracefully and handed him a document, her lips uttering cold words. “Let’s get a divorce!”

“What did you say?!” Deng Ruofan was shocked to see the divorce agreement in his hand.

“We’re getting a divorce. From today onwards, I want to live for myself.” Cheng Yu spoke each word clearly, without a hint of emotion.

Deng Ruofan suddenly felt his pride was hurt. Divorce? Did she think she could just walk away? If anyone was going to end this marriage, it wouldn’t be her!

“Cheng Yu, do you know what you’re saying?”

“I know very well, and I believe you heard me very clearly.”

“Is it because of what happened that day? How was I supposed to know you would suddenly come to the office? Didn’t I tell you not to come to the office unless it’s necessary? Why did you have to come?”

Why she went didn’t matter.

Cheng Yu remained cold. “We’re getting a divorce.”

The calmer she appeared, the angrier Deng Ruofan became, his chest burning with rage. He lashed out without thinking. “You want to divorce me? What do you think you can do after the divorce? You have no work experience, or do you think you can trick another man? Don’t be stupid! You’re already an old hag, what man would want you?”

The sharp insults cut deep into Cheng Yu’s heart, but she no longer felt the pain. “I want a divorce.”

Her attitude remained unyielding, her voice calm and steady.

In response, he tore up the divorce agreement and slapped her hard across the face.

“Don’t even think about it! You are my woman, and you will always be mine unless I say otherwise!”

Cheng Yu’s cheek instantly swelled up, leaving a red handprint. She touched her face and smiled faintly. “It’s not up to you to decide.”

With that, Cheng Yu opened the door and walked out of the house, empty-handed, leaving the selfish and cold-hearted man behind.

Deng Ruofan didn’t chase after her, convinced she had nowhere to go. Besides, she didn’t have her ID or wallet with her, so where could she possibly hide?

He waited for this ungrateful woman to come back and beg for his forgiveness.

He didn’t expect that in just a moment, he and his wife of several years would be separated forever.

Cheng Yu walked along the nearby street, and a speeding truck lost control and crashed into her—

Cheng Yu’s emaciated body was thrown into the air and then fell heavily to the ground, like a broken rag doll lying on the street. Bright red blood instantly pooled around her, painting a tragic scene.

Life was so fragile.

When Du Lingyun received the call from the hospital, he was focused on his work, staring at the flickering computer screen for a moment.

He was testing a newly written program, meticulously finding the hidden bugs.

After a while, he suddenly came to his senses, realizing the significance of the call.

His runaway wife had been in a car accident!

He had to rush to the hospital to see her!

Du Lingyun went to his son’s room. Yang Yang was already asleep, his little face flushed, hugging a plush bear, sleeping soundly.

Du Lingyun couldn’t bear to wake his son, but he also couldn’t leave him alone at home. Last month, Yang Yang’s mother had left while he was asleep, and Du Lingyun was working late at the office. The next morning, Yang Yang woke up and couldn’t find anyone. He was hungry and tried to heat up some milk in the microwave, burning his fingers.

If Du Lingyun hadn’t decided to go home to shower and change, something worse might have happened.

Since then, he had made a vow to himself never to leave his child alone at home again.

“Yang Yang, wake up, Yang Yang!” he called out to his son.

“Dad? What’s wrong?” Yang Yang rubbed his eyes, looking confused.

“Mom had an accident, Dad is taking you to the hospital.”

“To the hospital?” Yang Yang was shocked, remembering the times he had to go to the hospital when he was sick to get shots and medicine, which he hated. “Why is Mom at the hospital? Is she sick?”

“Yes, she seems to be injured, we’re going to see her.”

“Quickly! Hurry up!”

Yang Yang anxiously jumped out of bed, almost falling to the ground. Du Lingyun quickly supported his son.

Father and son changed into their outdoor clothes and drove to the hospital. Du Lingyun carried his son out of the car and rushed to the emergency room. Suddenly, a man rudely pushed past them.

The man was dressed in a suit and carrying an expensive suitcase, as if he had been about to leave on a trip when he was called over. He walked quickly, his face filled with urgency.

Yang Yang’s nose was hit, and he cried out in pain. Du Lingyun quickly rubbed his son’s nose.

“Are you okay? Yang Yang.”

“It hurts.” Yang Yang felt a little wronged.

Du Lingyun frowned slightly and looked up to see the man already ahead, grabbing a medical staff member and shouting.

“Where is my wife? How is she? Where is she now?”

“Sir, please calm down. Who is your wife?”

“Her name is Cheng Yu! Someone called and said she was in a car accident and was sent here for emergency treatment…”

Another medical staff member approached. “Are you Mr. Deng Ruofan, Cheng Yu’s husband?”

“Yes, I am! How is she?”

“I’m really sorry, we did our best…”

Du Lingyun didn’t want to see what happened next. The man named Deng went crazy, yelling at the medical staff, his roars echoing through the hospital corridor.

Yang Yang was so scared that he covered his ears with his little hands.

“Don’t be afraid, it’s okay.”

Du Lingyun gently comforted his son and walked past the man to find a medical staff member, who led him to a temporary bed in the corner of the emergency room.

“Your wife only suffered minor injuries. She’ll be fine after finishing this IV drip.”

“Thank you.”
